- The Pinova Chemical Plant in Brunswick, Georgia. The Plant announced it was closing following a major fire. Pinova then started moving forward with the demolition of the chemical plant. This Plant has been here for more than 100 years.
Formally the Hercules Brunswick Plant, this facility used pine tree stump extracts for various chemical and rosin related products. We will cover more of the history of this plant in upcoming videos and livestreams.
The clean up has started so lets jump in and watch some of the process. Heavy equipment working to remove the debris. Excavators, dump trucks, hydraulic shears, cranes all being used. Recycling the material that made up the plant.
The Caterpillar 345 excavator fitted with an electromagnet moves over the pile gathering pieces of metal and dropping them onto a larger pile.

Great skill and efficiency demonstrated by the operator. Great report Andy. Thank you.
Thanks Captain Andy!
Stayin tuned! 👍🤠
Magnet seems to be a great way to clean up the site. Especially the smaller pieces that are hard to pick up.
Pretty cool stuff! Thanks Cap'n!
That’s what they use at the scrapyard they seem to be able to regulate the magnetic strength to unload the trailers!
WOW. Looks wild!
Good video
Some stainless (ie:304) and can be paramagnetic.
He had to sneak up on that pipe:) Gotcha!
I've been told it's important to keep gypsum (like from drywall) out of scrap steel, since the sulfur in it is bad if it gets melted with the steel. I imagine this sort of process would reduce that contamination.
I believe magnets strength is measured in Gauss. if my faulty memory serves me today.
if you go to the Willamette dam restoration you'll get a lot of content
alum and copper won't work with the mag but they are higher priced when sorted I love recycling
hi andy
they are recycling a paper plant here in Oregon city the same way
Im curious what those cement looking big pads in the water area are
Storage tank bases. The notches visible at the edges are for clearance for the drain valves.
