- Steve compares a pair of Gen-3 Camaros and gets a “rat” of a surprise! And what’s up with the weird “one-needle / two-speedometer” instrument panel? Also learn what lies beneath those slick IROC-Z hood louvers in this side-by-side Camaro comparison video.

Hoping Everything is ok
It is!
🤞I think it’s looking good. This guy is a national treasure as far as I’m concerned.
What a gift Steve and his knowledge is to all of us.
Can't wait for you to return with your new daily junkyard crawl show. Wishing you the best! Thoughts and prayers 🙏
I Hope Steve gets better 🙏
Always glad to see the Steve Mags content drop. Weather it's new or it's not Steve. The ones who care are going to be here for you.
Do you know him personally? Have you hung out with him? Have you had a BBQ with him?

@@moparwoman2355 I don't, but as another human being, I'm concerned about another person. Most of us here suspect he's dealing with a medical condition, and perhaps a serious one. Wouldn't you want a bit of compassion and concern if you were in that situation? I think that's the point of what most folks are saying here.

With the third gen Camaros, I always liked the nice clean look of the base model with no spoilers, vents, decals, or T tops. I also liked the steel rally wheels with center caps and trim rings.
Best wishes to Steve and hope he gets better soon. He is a tremendous asset to the vintage car community.
I always enjoy Steve's videos whether they are repeats or not. Look forward to seeing new content which will mean Steve is back with us.
My thoughts are with you Steve, hopefully you'll be back up and running soon!
I had a 92 RS with the TBI 305 and a rare 5 speed combination. Man I loved that car! Someone rear ended me and ruined it for me.
I bet that RS was a blast to drive with a big block and a manual transmission.
I wonder why that person thought to throw away that car.
@@Adrian-mq5ldrust
@@senditc20 a rusty 3rd gen here in Europe is 10k or more.
If I had to take a guess somebody had an ambitious project, got the engine and then ran into a problem and it sat. Then they had to get rid of it for some reason.
Dang it, I wish I could bring that RS home, looks like it has solid body and interior isn't all that bad.
These Camaros were SO DAMN COOL LOOKING! It's a SHAME most were NOT "that great"!
Third gens are totally underrated. Thanks for the info! Love these cars!
They were good looking boulevard cruisers,I liked em style wise better than the C4 Vettes.
Get well soon Steve!! We are all praying for you!!
In 84 I was trying to decide if I liked the new Corvette w/ its wedge shape, everyone I knew liked this Camaro. They were everywhere. Steve ,Godspeed, get well bud!
Steve, we miss you and Shane. It's nice to see the repeat videos but we all are hoping you will be well soon and okay. 😉
I love junk yard crawl and Steve is a great guy. I have followed him for years on the car magazines and all the hot rod family stuff . I hope he get well soon . And I'm from Massachusetts and recognize the towns he goes to to checkout the beautiful junkyard relics .
Positive vibes being sent. Thank you for the show.
That base Camaro interior is spotless!!! That would be an awesome little show car just as it sits, well plus a wax job.
I had an 86 Camaro..Loved that car! Feel Better Steve, We are pulling for you!
That V-6 car has awesome interior and in very good condition. And can't believe when he popped the hood with that big block he didn't check the numbers on the block?
Steve were here for you and praying you make a quick recovery!
Thinking of you Steve and hoping you start doing better
In 1986 I bought a new Camaro, took it home and dropped it so low a beer can could not be rolled under the front end. Swapped the PROM chip and added a stainless exhaust...graphics and very fast.
How are you doing, Steve?
Get well Steveo! Always a pleasure to learn interesting things about cars.
Wow! That RS is a non A/C car! Best wishes, Steve...
Being probably sold in New England it was common to see these with no AC. As the New England winters rotted these away more desirable models were better cared for. It was always funny to see these bombing around in the snow with a set of sand tread recaps on the back.
That interior is super clean on that older Camaro
love this one im bout your age i grad in 83" in my 20 s these IROC Z and RS where all the talk...get well soon Steve you have too many more junkyards to take us through...May God Bless You Steve and your family..❤️🙏🙏🙏
I invite all the fans of this channel to view two of his videos every day in order to help Steve
I always appreciate the effort that Steve puts into his videos.
I still think the 80's Camaro and Trans Am Cars with all their trim were some of the best looking cars of that era.

Love the history lesson on these cars. always luv watching you Steve.
LET'S ALL GET TOGETHER AND SEND LOTS OF PONTIAC VIBES TO STEVE!
GET WELL SOON!
Why Pontiac?
@@LyleMyers Would you rather we send him lots of Toyota Matrixes?
@@huskobar4545 I’m just wondering what the connection is. This isn’t a Pontiac video, Steve’s a Mopar guy. Or???? Haha maybe there isn’t a connection at all here, you just wanted to make a Pontiac Vibe joke! Good one, and I’ll have that cup of coffee and try and wake up 🤣
Steve best wishes for a full recovery I always enjoy your B-J broadcasts
I hope Steve's production crew isn't going to a video every other day, then it'll be down to one a week, then one every other week, then one a month.
Yeah, I miss ya Steve! I see there's a lot more cars in that salvage yard to educate us on! Get well soon!
Hey Steve, hope you're ok. We're here for ya.
Hope you're feeling better Steve! Get well and keep digging through those junkyards!
Thinking of you Steve and Many prayers for you sir. ❤
That RS is something special with that motor shoved in there. I wonder why someone gave up on it.
I’m guessing it was put in and it’s never run. Then the project was abandoned.
That is a SHAME! These cars could have been AWESOME! They had "THE LOOK" and could have been GREAT!
They were a dime a dozen back then. A kid bagging groceries could save some and buy used Camaro for 500 dollars.
It's something special,alright.😂
In Northern, Minnesota, the "look" of these was SOMEWHAT "revered"!@@BruceLee-xn3nn
The base model looks plenty salvageable!
It's quite mint look at that untouched interior!
I agree. That interior was clean.
Great video, thumbs 👍, if he is under the weather, quick recovery, enjoy the old videos
My thoughts are with you Steve. Stay strong and please get better
Wasn't expecting that Big Block, lol. I might have gotten an unpleasant surprise lining up at a stoplight against that in my 340 4spd Duster. I'd hold my own but if it was sorted out and well driven I'd have been in a jam, lol
Hey Steve-O tremendous insight on these 80's models. We need to add that Chevrolet utilized a solid rear AXLE which caused an excessive amount of "wheel hop" on rough road surfaces. Many Thanks Yo ! 👉. 🎯
Excellent video! Brings back memories as I was a proud buyer and owner of a 1982 Berlinetta until 2019. I optioned many items including a 4 speed manual, 2.8 LC1 V6, and tinted glass, among other interior options along with the great Berlinetta wheels and standard options.
I had the 1983 Berlinetta version with T-Tops and gold accent stripes and rims, grey interior V8. Enjoyed that car for years.
I had a couple of these, fun cars and very good tuning platforms for all sorts of things. We used to auto cross them after extensive mods. Ahhhh memories.
The gigantic piece of tempered glass that adds 4 seconds onto your zero to 60?
The same!
I’m always amazed by Steve’s knowledge
I bought a 91 RS V8 and immediately replaced the louvered grip with a Z28 grill. I did go one to install a 3" cat back exhaust and performance chip. When I needed tires, I installed the 245/50/18s. I loved that car for several years. (14)
Does you remember the Keith Black Camaro? It had an aluminum 540 BBC and I want to say the goal was a 10-second car and 200 mph…
In 86 I had a Z28 (1985) HO 305 with the 5 Speed and in 87 I had a new 87 IROC 350 with the 4 Speed Automatic --- the 85 was more fun to drive
Wow, the interior of that base coupe looks really good.
Great video, Steve. I'm a Ford/Mustang guy but always had respect for the enemies. I never really got the whole speedo pulling double duty in mph and kph. It all just looked too busy to me.
On another note... Has anyone heard anything about Steve or Shane?
Did they get COVID round 2or3.... did either get in an accident, shot, did the dog finally get tired of them being in her house and turn on them? Basically does anyone know anything???
I/ we are wishing you/y'all all the best. Thank you for the hard work y'all do to put videos out every day 7days a week. I know that's a lot of work...but we all really do appreciate the both of y'all and everything y'all do
Thanks Steve. My mullet just grew an inch with that one. Get well soon brother!
That RS engine was sure a nice surprise!

Steve, I sure hope you can get well very soon. Your videos are essential for any automotive enthusiast. We appreciate your sharing such extensive knowledge of every care and truck ever made. Love the 3rd gen videos! What a surprise to see that late-70s pre-electronic quadrajet 454! Bet that T-5 didn't last very long. Hope someone saves both cars...
I found a '84 Camaro with the 2.5 4 cylinder and a 4 speed. I was in love with that car. It got bought before i could afford it. Definitely a fun car to test drive.
I had a 2.8 in a base firebird back in the day. Someone did some small but good modifications to it mainly the rear gears and posi. That thing would do 10 mile an hr rolling burnouts for ever! One night i got carried away showing off and over revved it until it blew up. It didnt go all at once though. Had a hard rod knock to begin with. It was my daily so i babied it with the knock for 6 months and it gave up getting on the highway omw to work one morning. Threw a rod right out of the block! Was one of my first motor failures as a kid and certainly wouldn't be the last!
Was it before or after 87. In 87 they fixed an issue with the crankshaft and I don't think I've seen people getting rodknock on 2.8s after that. Those engines are kinda known to be really reliable ,I wonder what do you mean you over revved it ,it shouldn't grenade on you like that.
@@Adrian-mq5ld it was an 86 and i revved it past 5k for way too long and afterwards it started knocking. I know about the 2.8 reliability and thats why i put another one in when i finally decided to fix it. However the car was never the same. Idk if the previous owner did some work to the original engine or the one i got was tired but ended up selling the car soon after
@@thecommodoredecker the later 2.8s were really strong and its possible you never tuned it right .If yours was an 86 and you got a later model its possible the ECM was the limit. I got a 88 black Firebird in Europe and here the damn thing is exotic asf. I can park it next to 400,000 euro cars and people still flock around the Firebird lol
@@Adrian-mq5ld thats awesome! Even here in the states they are becoming scarce and the 89 formula that i have now isnt that pretty people see me at a gas pump or stop sign and ask me about it. Its my summer daily and reliable as all hell! My plan is to do a "what if" build with it. "What if, Callaway did a run of formulas with the sledgehammer Corvette?" I already have the TPI setup and it works flawlessly i just need some aluminum heads and a turbo! I definitely need more but im being enthusiastic lol. But i bet yours being in Europe is one hell of a conversation starter! Thats why i love car people, they dont give a damn about your politics or whatever. They can come together and talk about their hobbies and learn stuff too! Heres to many more miles and smiles in your Pontiac over the pond!(kilometers in your instance lol)
@@Adrian-mq5ld your probably right about the tuning aspect. Even though i only used the long block i figured itd be fine and it mostly was but never had the same power as before

Hope you're continuing to get better Steve!!! Back in the day I worked as an EMT and we did the standby medical for Road America. GM rented the track and brought a 502 Camaro to play with. Oh my!! What a beast!!
When I was 21 I purchased a 1991 Arctic White Camaro RS. It had the new ground effects for 91-92 only and the true IROC-Z28 taillights. It also had the 305 small block which sounded great but was rather saccharine in the power department. Lots of one wheel burnouts and plenty of wheel hop.😂
Nice, same year I ordered a blue 5.7 1LE/G92, had to wait a Month for it to be made at Van Nuys plant. I called the 5.0 the five point slow...
Thank you Steve for your love and knowledge of cars. I wish you luck and success in your health struggle. Also thanks for your choice to share your knowledge
My brother in law had an 89 iroc with the 5 speed manual! What a beast it was for the time! Too bad he doesn’t own it no more, they’re becoming collectible now! Great stuff Steve! Thank you 🙏 and wishing you’ll recover soon!
I had an '87 LT 5-speed 2.8L. I still have a photo of it after its body work sitting right up here above my monitor. I miss that machine SO much. I did some quirky things that I could say to due to statute of limitations, but.. ya know... ;)
Real good Camaro info. Get well soon Steve!!
…one more thing. There are a lot of auctions on TV now but for the real enthusiasts that really like the tiny details and NUMBERS you’ve got them all beat !
Bet that RS was quick with the big block in it.
Straight ahead!
Wishing and praying for your speedy recovery my friend and 🙏🙏🙏
My uncle had its base Pontiac cousin, a 1987 Firebird base V6, with the 4 speed auto. I do recall even as a kid it was pretty slow for the 80s, he said it handled pretty good after he upgraded the shocks, brake pads and put better summer tires on it. That car still exists, albeit quasi non-running in his garage. Assume it’s not worth much if he ever wants to unload? That said, would it manage a V8 big block (or heck even a 350) well? It’s pretty well used, but didn’t see much winter in the Midwest so it avoided bad rust…
Hoping your health is good, Steve! Remember that episode of TG, when the guys came over and bought American cars and Clarkson got the 3rd gen IrocZ? They were wrong on several 3rd gen points, right? You should SCHOOL those three on this subject, lol.
For some reason I love the look of the sport coupe. It has aged well.
Love em, have an 83 Z28, with LS swap and lots of HP. Just a joy to drive, much better handling than all prior Gens.
A WS6 Trans Am from the 2nd gen is a good handler.
I wish there were some sort of update on how Mr. Magnante is doing. Until then, as stated last time:
Close. The 2.8L V6 VIN code "S" engine was used from 1985-1989 and then in 1990 the 3.1 VIN code "T" RPO code "LH0" took over for base engine duties in the F body line and ran from 1990 to 1992. From 1982 to 1986, you could get a four, six or eight cylinder F body. Staring with 1987, you could only get a V6 or V8. Third generation cars were assembled in Norwood, OH (through August of 1987) or Van Nuys, CA. The Van Nuys plant closed in 1992 with the end of the third generation cars, and F body production was moved to St. Therese, Quebec Canada for the 4th gen cars (1993 to 2002).
He's in jail.
I think he is dealing with a medical issue.
The coupe and rs never came factory with the louvered hood either.... Steve gets a lot wrong oddly enough...
@@sprsprtrudy He does but that's OK. He and I disagree on a "A letter is better" when it comes to Ford rear end codes and I've proven that to him as well as that Fisher trim tags do not always indicate if the vehicle is a six or eight cylinder (only the VIN does). That's OK, we are all human and that's why there's a comments section.
