Mango: Annoyed that smelting swords gives you less gold than you put in.
Also Mango: Creates gold out of thin air
Less annoyed that it's less gold, an ingot would still be only half the gold (for a sword) but it seems more reasonable than an 1/18th of the gold.
for that matter though, broken tools could be an item instead of disappearing, that you can recover a portion of the gold from in a furnace.
It'd be interesting if the amount you got back from smelting was relative to the durability of the sword or other equipment

That little talk at the end about smelting the boots and using the water bottles could be turned into a challenge: how many different items can you produce with a farming complex where everything is somehow linked together. Like you said, you can drink some water bottles and use the now empty bottle for honey, you cna brew then into potions or make mud. What is the maximum diversity of blocks, regardless of the numbers, even to the point where farming certain blocks by hand might be faster than automating it in one giant contraption.
I absolutely love the idea of massively integrated chains of farms.
Another challenge here is to get the maximum type of items with the least amount of accounts. Ex. water bottle drinker could also strip wood or something.

That “I’m an idiot” moment where you realise your working design is soooo much kore complicated than necessary is amazing. Except when it’s followed up by “oh, no I’m not, It’s the new me that is dumb” 😂
The new design does have the slight downside that bamboo can grow in between the honey (or slime) blocks, which would not be picked up by the minecarts and thereby creating item entities. Not really a problem at the scale of the gold farm bamboo farm, but for the original bamboo farm for the super smelter that would add up to a lot of item entities sitting around and causing lag.
I love the fact that we don't talk about the resources needed to build these stuffs, since they're in scicraft.

If I had to choose the farm out of all of them, this one would certainly be the most farm.
For gold item smelting, if we could get half gold invested minus the lost durability. So a gold chest plate with 25% durability would give 1 gold ingot. You could even add some randomness by giving a range to the original 50% reduction.

after seeing how you guys implemented the hopper-fed crafting table in Peaceful Challenge, I'm totally on board with that being added to Minecraft
I wonder if you could design a system you could turn off and on. turn it on and the gold swords are sent to a smelter array. turn it off and the swords are trashed. maybe you manually bring shulkers of fuel when you want to smelt them and when that's empty it turns off and trashes them.

@@m_t_t_ probably since potions take like 10 seconds to make 3, while with crafting you can make multiple stacks in a second
I actually added that mod to my vanilla world. Only server side mod I have.
Makes it a bit tricky with updates when gnembon doesn't update it (there is the quickcarpet alternative but I'm not as big of a fan) but so worth it.
I'd actually be totally content if Mojang wouldn't implement more complicated crafts but only compacting and uncompacting.
Would make the game more interesting again. For example. At the moment everybody uses moss farms, since it gives you straight bonemeal. If you could auto craft bones into bonemeal, that would make skeleton farms interesting again.
You could even craft "bones -> bonemeal -> bone blocks" for storage and then craft those back into bonemeal when you need it.

Finally, something that I knew/did before Ilmango! I used blast furnaces to smelt the swords at my gold farm over a year ago
I'm intresstet in that Bamboo farm Design, a World Downlode of the Farm would be great.
Seam also practical for an Honey only Bamboo Farm. Just a One Wide Gap Gap needet. There for it would be easy to Set up without Slime.

For smelting equipment I've always thought something like FLOOR( 0.9 * [durability] * [ingots used] ) would be better.
A half used chestplate would be 0.9 * 0.5 * 8 = 3.6. You could go with 3 ingots or 32 nuggets.
Interestingly with the latter a full durability chestplate would give 64 nuggets (0.9 * 1 * 8 * 9 = 64.8) so you wouldn't have any overflow issues

@@PK0RN Working in unison is a common idiom. In everyday language you wouldn't say "working together in harmony" unless you're referring to people or something. I guess unison and harmony are homonyms in that sense (or a polysemes, depending on how you want to look at it).

The way you were talking about usages for all the items, I thought of another challenge mode: Use all items from the farms you get, nothing is allowed to get voided.

Have you seen his auto mud farm using azalea trees? It’s very connected to multiple systems to get dirt.

I'm working on a raid farm sorter that uses the crossbows to melt down the axes. You can sort out any unstackable fuel items (similarly to potions) on the condition that you're willing to burn them afterwards. Iron nuggets aren't valuable, but you could also throw in some sand or ores you want to melt. Same could be done with a skeleton farm, or other things.
IIRC the reason for your first bamboo harvester design was to prevent bambo item to drop when they grow inbetween the two sweepers.

One ingot instead of a nugged for the sword really would make sense. Great music selection as always!
I think you should get an ingot for smelting a full durability sword, and nuggets down to 1 nugget as the durability decreases.
mud with lava on top should turn back into dirt. it could make that satisfying sizzle. you could instantly turn dirt to mud and dirt again to empty bottles. maybe it could take 1 tick as a cool alternative to using scaffolding. lots of cool things mojang could add if they felt like it at all.
but at least we have our chats monitored and single player now needs to be played online 🤡. effort well spent
i'm against the chat reporting as much as the next person, mainly because of the incompetence to handle it well that mojang has shown, but let's not spread lies. singleplayer does not need to be played online and they also don't monitor anything outside of realms.

Something I realized from recent testing - a single module moss-based bonemeal farm produces ~6000 azalea + flowering azalea per hour. That's equivalent to the 12k bamboo you need to smelt these swords. It's about half the area of the bamboo farm. It does require water, which is not ideal, but you could send the fuel to the nether or swords to the overworld. That's not an option with the bamboo farm since it requires player proximity. Then you can use the "bonus" bonemeal to run a rooted dirt farm, which will in turn give you some use for the water bottles you get from bartering.

For the bamboo farm, didn’t you go with the more complicated design to cut down on lost items (to reduce lag iirc) since there’s a chance the bamboo will grow in the gap in the flying machine?

I don't know if I've seen the concept of putting leather boots on a mob and the mob on powdered snow so that things like items can fall right through without needing hoppers/droppers to move the items. I love it!

I think they were given enchanted leather boots which would already account for that.
The piglins all wear leather boots so they don't fall through the powder snow. All the zombified piglins already don't count towards the mobcap while they are being transported by minecarts, so that part also isn't an issue.

A "fun" little challenge to do in Minecraft:
Step 1: Kill piglins/zombified piglins until you get a gold sword
Step 2: Smelt the gold sword for a gold nugget
Step 3: Repeat steps 1-2 until you have enough for a gold ingot
Step 4: Barter for iron boots. If unsuccessful, repeat steps 1-3
Step 5: Smelt the iron boots to get one iron nugget
Step 6: Repeat steps 1-5 until you have enough to craft an iron ingot
Tadaa!! The most complicated hard-earned way to get an iron ingot ever! Bonus points if that's the first iron ingot you touch in that world. I call this challenge acquire HARDware

I think a bartering system where piglins ride minecarts and pick up gold from one plce and drop their item into another would be super funny and interesting. So you would have a minecart based bartering system getting gold from a minecart based gold farm

I have always thought you should get back 50-66% of the crafting ingredients used to make the tool/armour when it is burned in a furnace, other than wood (which should always be lost). It should apply to diamond gear too but I can imagine people going crazy because they accidentally dropped their diamond tools into the furnace array. 😂

Does anyone know what/who designed the storage modules that were used in the bartering section? I didn't realize that combo storage slices (with bulk storage and accessible shulker inventories) had gotten so small these days
I pulled it out of storage tech discord a while ago and had it in my litematics folder when I added it to the farm. Not sure who designed it.
Looks like the one from vktec "Yet another bottom-accessible shulker loader (7x6 blocks)". Not 100% sure though.

I tried to build the bamboo flying machine farm but the piston that moves the observer downwards (you can see it at the end of 9:26) didnt move. I made it work by placing a noteblock on top of the downwards facing piston and next to the redstone dust. Also I had trouble placing the rails, maybe it is kinda directional? I built it facing south (positive Z) if you look at the other end of the farm starting from the on/off switch.
I’ve been playing too much Terraria because in the beginning Timelapse I thought, “interesting, they’re using a hoik for the items.”
I thought the initial harvester design was so no bamboo can grow in the gap and than drop to the floor, though this one would be a big improvement over the 6-block gap one from the original already.
I'm curious: When talking about a faster gold farm, would you actually build a portal farm right now? As they said they wanted to prevent mobs that spawn in portals from teleporting in the near future it doesn't look like a smart decision. On the other hand, we all don't know what the new mechanics will be like. E.g. we don't know if we might be able to push mobs into portals right after spawning or if this will be prevented through a cool down. So going for a fall damage based design could turn out to be the wrong decision.
I'm thinking about building a gold farm right now and I think I won't build something that involves portals in any way because I don't want to do it again in 1.20, but I'm curious about what you guys think 🤔
They are stupidly easy to build though. And considering that it will likely take at least half a year until that gets removed...

With ianxofour's bee farm design you don't even need lots of glass bottles anymore so I guess there's no point emptying the water bottles you get.

same thing happens with smelting gold armor, a SINGLE nugget for a whole chestplate
this really should be changed, too. i think the reason was because armor/tools with low durability are worthless anyway, and would be 'op' if you could smelt, say two 1 durability swords then immediately be able to craft a full durability sword.
but uhhhh gold farms exist mojang and there's so many sources of gold, why not change it to gold bars, and make this a decent alternative? maybe to balance out the early game make it only obtainable using a blast furnace? idk

Unrelated, but I have a challenge for a design.
Would it be possible to make a storage system where you can just stay in one relatively small room and let the items you need come towards you? Like you could insert one stone and a stack of stone would travel from a chest towards the player or something? Would there be a way to do this with an entire storage/ sorting system?
That's basically their bulk storage system, see about two-three episodes back (on ilmango's channel)
