The points I liked the most:
    - it doesn't matter what people think of you
    - honor every cycle, no pain no gain
    - reflect on why you were triggered
    - mindfulness
    - when something bad happens, take it as a lesson

Hey. As a guy, the dating people you're unsure about rule doesn't just apply to girls it definitely applies to men as well. Even if you hook up or have fun together if they are acting flakey or aren't emotionally where you are then just move on or at least put less and less effort into that relationship. Great video as always. I'm the same age as you and both of my parents are psychologists so your mindset is really equal to what i grew up with so it's really comforting, thank you

    • @cardy4ever

Same for the advice against hookup culture thing applies to me as well as a guy. It's really draining. I want more and I wanna be matched with someone who values me not only for my looks but also my intellect. Just messing about with Tinder and hooking up with strangers really reminded me I want a serious relationship.

20 year old here and here is some life advice I live by:
1: Treat everyone with respect (even the people you hate) and understand some people won't reciporcate
    2: Learn your boundaries
3: Build your own Moral Compass, aka find out the meaning of Right and Wrong to you
4: Try to understand others opinions and allow them to get their point across without interrupting or trying to get your point across when you find something wrong in their argument and learn to agree to disagree
5: Figure out what you want out of life and work and aim for it
6: Understand everything comes with time
7: Have a reason to why you do anything and constantly remind yourself of that reason whenever you feel like giving up
8: Spend time with and understand your emotions

    Love your videos.
I hope you'll make a video on jealousy in relationships someday - not only romantic or sexual jealousy, but worrying that your partner cares more about their friends than they care about you as their partner. And always having the fear of being left out, of not being prioritized by people you prioritize.
I struggle a lot with this due to low self-esteem and trauma from bullying when I was a child. And on top of that, struggle with shame because of the jealousy I feel. I hate those feelings so much, they're so intense. And I've got terrible abandonment issues.

  • @lodragan
    @lodragan Před 2 lety +21

I'm 57, and while I concur with many of your lessons, some were markedly different I think primarily because of situations I found myself in. For one thing, I was in the military for 12 years during the time when I was your age, and many times I had to deal with people both above and below me in the rank structure who were red flags. I didn't have the option of walking away or distancing myself in any significant way. It was an extremely stressful environment (there were weapons, explosives, and heavy equipment involved) where one mistake could mean death or injury, and I had to somehow navigate it successfully for myself, and for those in my care. I didn't have the luxury of picking those I would work with; I had to do the best I could with the hand I was dealt. After I got out of the military, most 'stressful' events in civilian life didn't seem so stressful after all. I was also a very shy person when I was young, and have had to manage my energy levels in the face of hyper-interactivity present in both the military and jobs since. The only constant is change is a firm understanding I have about life and the universe as a whole. The best things in life have always happened when I stretched my comfort zones, although I do tend to stir my coffee the same way - more out of muscle memory/efficiency than OCD - and I expend my energy on innovation and stretching in other areas instead! For example, I am out of work, and starting up several new things including commercial drones, writing, software and systems development, that I hope to generate enough cash to become my own business this year. I guess the biggest lesson I've had to learn is that I, nor the people around me, act perfect all of the time, or even part of the time. When I was younger I would take it personally when someone didn't act nicely; I would be especially hard on myself if I didn't live up to my self image either. I've come to accept myself and others as we are, and this has been a great sense of comfort for me. I've never been in therapy before, but your videos have helped me learn a lot of things that I either never examined, or did not know about the subject, making me consider doing so. Thanks!

I love how you pointed that the reality and the universe will always be neutral. It will either go with or against our ways, and that therapies should not make false euphoria among clients that is very contradicting to what is happening in the real world. I love how grounded and mindful your statements are. (This is also one of my main interests in research when I hopefully get into postgraduate studies in Clinical Psychology too!!)

I turned 25 in January, and one thing I realized is that I've wasted so much time in my youth. I can't help to compare to people at same age on how accomplished they are. Most of them are well on their way to a career or a family, while I only just managed to finally finished university but with no real work experience. The feeling of dread is something I can't stop myself from feeling when I think about my future. However, reminding myself of my friends' and my sister's love and care has been my stable source of motivation to move on.

Strongly agree on reaching for the stars. I have been rejected, even told it’s impossible to do what I currently do.
Absolutely no one in this world has the right to tell you “that is impossible” or “you’re aiming too high” because there are so many variables at play when it comes to getting an opportunity. Only the adcoms or interviewers, or whoever is assessing your application/ candidacy has this power to play judge. Don’t let denial or rejections hold you back and keep trying ❤

Thank you for sharing number 11. I've always wanted to do something with drawing because I love it to death. Lately I have found game dev to be a great way to use this passion since every aspect of it interests me. Since I chose the safe route and went to school for business, I felt that I made the wrong choice and I should have tried to go for game dev in school. But in highschool I had no idea that that might be a realistic goal. I still don't know if it would have been realistic but maybe I can still find some workaround to still be able to incorporate my passions into work.

Excellent video, one everyone can learn from and relate too. I have learnt a lot of these things in the past 2 or 3 years (I'm 37) and wish had know them by 25. But you can't change the past. Now I focus on my present (still a work in progress) and creating a better future. I do all this through self improvement. So much of this is just making me feel worse about my ADHD as I can't control my emotions without medication, and I have a lot of struggles feeling like I'm wasting people's time and resources, and I tend to push people away because things take me longer. I'm glad some of my profs have been really good, but where I don't know if I can actually find a medication that doesn't cause side effects, it scares me.
I've faced so many failures do to things out of my control and ableism for both ADHD and my chronic illness, and it's so ingrained in society that your ability equates to success, and that was drilled into me as a kid being told I had to have good grades. It's so hard to overcome that, and find people who are willing to work with my needs instead of tell me to just try harder. It's just a lot to work with when there are more strict limits at play. Invisible conditions and disabilities really need more awareness because no one believes me, even my doctors say I'm normal, while my physiotherapist has been really good at telling me what is a problem, and what I should do instead (I'm hypermobile and have dislocations).

I mean...these lessons are a little too important to just come across on the internet? Thank you Ana for sharing your insights😌

Giving less shits honestly helped me a lot. Just not caring about how people think of you, not caring about jumbeling up words in a public speaking, because at the end of the day we're all human and we all make mistakes. It has helped me a lot with social anxiety

I've been watching your videos since 2020, when you helped me find the words to describe why I was unhappy in my relationship. "If you can tolerate distress, you're truly unstoppable"-- yes absolutely! I always am able to take something from your videos and I appreciate them.
I just listened to a podcast by Dr. Alek K. about inner vs outward-oriented perfectionists, and maybe you've already talked about it but I would love to hear your take on what you think of those findings (essentially if you have both types then those are the highest achievers, whether or not it is actually healthy), and how you might contextualize that with the idea of "try not to care what people think of you." even outside of the online or dating arena

Exactly, I read the same opinion on Quora from someone explaining karma as just consequences, not necessarily to do with a bad wrong judgement...

Thank you so much for this video. I am currently 22 and quite recently got out of a break up and I am trying to change my life for the better now. I feel like a video about the power trap (if you haven't done that already) would be super interesting, as I kinda fell for it too. My ex cheated on their ex (but that was about 2 years before they met me) and when they met me they outright told me that they didn't regret doing it, but they wouldn't do it again. I believed them and actually didn't get cheated on, but instead got dumped out of blue, because they missed the whole beginning stage of relationships (the excitement, the flirting etc.). So not much differently, just that they had the decency to not cheat on me first. It made me feel quite stupid afterwards for actually thinking that they wouldn't get bored with me either.

I'm about to turn 30, I'm finally graduating from university and I just left a 5,5 year relationship after moving to another country to be with them and I'm trying to figure out what to do with my life. I appreciate these tips and insights 🥰
