I bought my wife the Shield 380 EZ she loves it and shoots it better than 9mm. So I loaded her up with good self defense ammo and now she’s ready. Great video sir keep up the good work!!
Thanks for the thorough review. I appreciate you naming the ammunition brands and grain #s as well. Again thanks.
It's nice to see a reviewer that can recognize that there are different types of point of aim. Rather than just saying shoots high or shoots low.
My wife had an elbow issue a year ago (she is fine now) but it made me think something like this would be needed in the future. Thanks for the review.
Justin, excellent review. My buddy has the PC 380 version and it is nice. This is on my list once S&W does their veterans rebate or any $50 rebate this year. I like this pistol and S&W makes quality American firearms. Great job sir.
FWIW, my slide release works fine and seems to get better with use. Love the gun!
I have the shield plus love it but I have some friends who have bought this 9 mm in the ez model it really helps some women and people with arthritis with this gun. It helped them to have a gun they can actually use where other wise they have to look for other options. So glad s&w made this gun to help a lot of people out.
Great meter! I recently got the 380 ez and had the same issue with the slide release lever being so crisp. A couple of swipes on the slide notch with a sharpening stone and it’s nice and slick now. Very nice gun to shoot!
Just bought this for my son! Thank you for your input!
Best & most detailed review of this handgun I’ve seen. A very knowledgeable approach. And interesting to watch. Thanks for helping my research.
Thanks for the comment. That's what I strive to accomplish, but never feel like I quite make it. I appreciate the encouragement.
My wife has one. She’s happy with it.
This is my favorite CCW!! Great firearm.....
Carry mine every day. And pray never need it
Got one 380. Easy for my wife. Excellent pistol. Loved it so much that when S&W came with a 9 mm version I went to get me one. Horrible experience. After purchasing it I went straight to the range. Out of 50 rounds, 37 jams. However the gun is very accurate. Sent it back to factory for fixing. Now waiting to have it back. Really hope they will do a good jobs because it seems an awesome gun.........when it works.
Can your wife tell the difference between racking the 380 ez and the 9m ez?
@@Antonio-si8pu With a bit of extra effort she can do it. However this POS after I got it back from S&W I took it for a ride. First 50 rounds OK, next 50 rounds jammed 10 times. I called an instructor to check it and within 8 rounds jammed 3 times. Now, again, it is back to the factory to be fixed. I might be alone on this, but I would not recommend this firearm.
Bro I saw your everywhere on gun forum telling the same story lol
Would love to see a 10-12 rd mag for these.
Yes I would also
No you wouldn't
Very much
So would I
Government insanity. Depending on which state you live in the number of rounds you are allowed to sell a magazine for changes. I believe Calif perhaps the center of government insanity the limit is 10. I do not live in Calif. I do wonder if you have a more than 10 round mag if you are a criminal. I expect you are. Defensive shooting. He had two bullets in him but send him to jail as he had a more than 10 shot mag in his pocket at the time of the shooting.
Thank you Justin, love the video. We rented the .380 version for my wife and ended up buying her the 9mm gun. Next time at the range I got to shoot it, fell in love and bought one for myself! It is a great shooter. Really no complaints with this gun.
Steve what was the difference maker for buying the 9mm
@@thomasroseman575 I’d like to know also.
I wanted to Review this Pistol, Young Beretta is still undecided. Now that you did this review, maybe I will be satisfied for a couple months. Great Job my friend!! 💯👊🤗🥳😎👍🇺🇸
Beretta Sr.
I Enjoyed you Video Review my Friend! I really like the looks of it, with a Regular Type Trigger. I recently have a Black and Gold EZ 380 Performance Center on the way. I am excited about a $400 handgun. Yes!!!!!! Thank-you Smith&Wesson!!!
Keep up the Great Work Justin!!! 🥳😎👊👍🇺🇸. Beretta Sr.
Oh man... you'll have the "gangsta" edition EZ!
Dang, Murphy for it is now $528, and my local shop is selling it for $600
Nice review Justin. I liked the camera angles and in particular the slo-mo. There are a lot of nice guns to choose from these days.
Thank you for a very thorough and extremely helpful video. You confirm and explain very well what I was thinking and feeling from my times renting this model, (as well as other pistols that were recommended for my arthritic and injured thumbs,) before buying a gun... The 380 was great to shoot too, but the ammo situation makes the 9mm the best choice for me...
Very glad it was helpful for you!
Just got one and it's my first firearm. I love it!
BlackLS1Pontiac Same. It’s a great gun!
really great review.thanks
I've had mine for a few months now and Im gonna collect all of the M&P Smith & Wesson collection. I wish I would of purchased the 9mm shield 2.0 with 18 plus one. That will be my next pistol
My wife had her .380EZ for just a couple of weeks when the 9 mm version showed up.
Justin Opinion... Thanks for a cool video. Your right hand was shaking, and yet you got the metal on the target.
I've wanted to get one of these for my dad since they came out. I think I want one for myself as well. Unfortunately I'm in CA atm. Thanks for the excellent review.
You are very thorough. This is my second purchase… ever! My first was a 357 for easy loading. I can’t wait to shoot my easy now!!!! ❤️🥰👍🏽👍🏽
Thanks, I try to be.
Great review, very helpful. 👍
Pro tip #2: never, EVER take an EZ apart any farther than the Field Strip level. I got a 380EZ before the manual safety-less model was available and after it became available I searched for info on pulling this thing apart and there was none. So, I cleverly pulled out the hammer assembly to see if the safety could be removed, as can be done with an M&P. Little springs and tabs and stuff fell to the table in a way that indicated that I was never going to get it back together again. I felt that, even though it fed everything now, the interior complexity level was so high (and delicate) that I didn’t want to find out how this pistol aged. This was my trade-in on a P365XL when I first met one of those.
Food for thought: this is a fully cocked and locked-only-by-the-grip-safety model. How safe does this feel to you after you think about it for a while? The 1911 (all bow and genuflect) had a manual safety for this, ONLY, until the military insisted the grip safety be added. And it has been a source of constant bitching ever since. How far do we trust it? S&W has obviously tested the heck out of it and feels it’s fine but the concept flies in the face of how civilian shooters have been commenting for over a hundred years. I didn’t mind it too much, just food for thought. Again, dude isn’t a 50 or 60% cocked striker; it is fully cocked.
Just saying, this thing looks fine from the outside, shoots nice and has terrific EZ goals...looking at the inside might get a little scary.
So funny! I did exactly the same thing. Quite a shock when the whole thing fell apart in my hand!
Got one paid off. Pick her up in 3 weeks. Great review. New to your channel. Shared and subscribed
I bought my wife the 380 ez and she loves it. I shot it and liked how great it shot. When the 9mm ez came out, I went and got one. I do not regret it as it is my edc pistol and I can drive nails with it. Not many holsters for it yet or mag extensions, but give it time and when manufacturers see how popular this gun is, there will be gobs of accessories.
Galloway Precision has mag ext but I think they're only +1.
Aaron do you like the 9 or 380 better? And what are differences. My wife and i shot the 380 .Thanks
Thomas Roseman they are almost the same size, but the 9mm is a bit wider. The function and controls are very similar. You get a bit more recoil with the 9mm, but is very manageable. I would recommend this pistol any day of the week. The only thing I have thought about changing are the sights, but have not settled on which ones to get.
@@AlbanyND have you shot the Springfield xd. If so can you compare the 2 thanks
@@ryanoneil1286 I purchased the M&P Shield 9 EZ and also have a CZ P-07. I purchased an OLight Mini 2 Valkyrie for each of them. 600Lumens. Plenty bright. Comes with a USB recharging cable that magnetically clips on the light. They are Awesome! No modification necessary. Just clips onto the Picatinny rails easily and slide the light back with light paddle switches on each side of the trigger guard and locks into place. Check them out. I do not have holsters that fit with the light attached. The lights easily come off and can be used as a small flashlight. Stay Safe. Happy Shooting!
Thanks Justin for your video. I am an NRA Instructor and have been recommending this pistol to several of my students that have trouble due to racking and loading. I love the way you explain all the elements about the pistol and show the difference vs the 9mm EZ. My Husband purchased the S&W Shield for me an I do not like it. It just doesn't fit my hands. I tend to go for larger pistols to fit my long fingers. I find the 9mm Easy a better fit. Your video hits all the point from proper grip to recoil and follow through. Please share more...
I am going to purchase for my students to use during training.
Solid video. If this had been available when I purchased my shields, I would have opted for the 9 EZ for sure, but I don't need both. I like the concept/desigh/function of this pistol.
I have a Glock 43X, and when I felt the EZ in my hand, it felt more like my Colt 1911, which I liked. I am thinking of having the EZ instead of my Glock, primarily for that reason.
I just purchased one yesterday with out the thumb safety can't wait to receive it
Just got mine , very good gun, perfect for everyday carry
Picked up mine today! Can't wait to hit the range! Hope you enjoy as much as I plan too!
Thumb safety does nothing
Had one for about 6 months now and I love it. Haven't had any trouble w/the slide release.
Same here easy to me
Just purchased one. It's been hit or miss for me. I guess it comes down to reps. As with anything.....
Making me wish I hadn't bought a Ruger Security 9. Glad to see no failures like the 380 EZ...I think they redesigned the mags a tad.
Are there failure to feed problems with the 380ez?
First time I took mine to the range it would jam on me. I was devastated. I worked hard to save up for it. When I got home I cleaned it and oiled it down. Never had a jam sense. I was so glad it was just dry and needed oil.
So in 1903, Colt made the "Pocket Hammerless" in 32 caliber. In 1908 they started making it in .380 caliber.
110 years later Smith and Wesson makes the '08 out of plastic. And now, after 111 years, the Pocket Hammerless is finally in 9mm caliber.....
“And his hair was perfect” -Warren Zevon.
Smith quality as usual I would have bought this over my regular Shield
My wife loves it. We priced matched at academy 349.97. It’s a great pistol.
academy sports in my area list the ez9 for 479.00 .im buying one tomorrow from small gun shop for 449.00 plus its no tax weekend on guns n ammo in ms.
@BMO yea im wondering on that price myself.
Fun. Always good to see a reviewer enjoy a new firearm.
Love this pistol so easy to shoot and rack the slide and clean
I wanted the S&W shield plus performance center but the gun store only had the versions with the hinge trigger (I do not like the hinge trigger). So I settled for 9mm Shield EZ 2.0 but I have a thumb safety (I do not mind that though). It is my first handgun and I do like the ease of use and it does feel right in my hand and that is important. The only 2 things I do not like about it are the dots are not hi-viz (I plan on using that glow paint eventually) and it only holds 8+1 rounds. The firearm is for home defense so I guess its not a huge deal the lack of round capacity. I do plan on getting another pistol so I will order the exact make/model I want next time. My daughter is 20 and wants to learn about gun safety and how to shoot so I think this firearm is good for her to learn on as well since its easier to operate. I didnt load/fire it yet until I take it to a range, but I am looking forward to it.
I just got this exact model. It's my 1st one. Can't wait to shoot it.
Very comprehensive and informative review.
Glad you liked it
Great video
What sights would you consider? I love my .45 and .40 but after a stroke 9 years I now have a 9 EZ and need different sights and was thinking about XS BigDot Thanks and great review!
Very useful review.
Glad you think so!
Great Video Can't Wait To Get Minds This Week👍🏾
Reassembly also requires the back tabs of the spring rod to have the flats facing out, not up and down. Not a difficult gun to put back together, but some differences that'll have you frustrated if you're not aware.
The new shields are more expensive than the previous generation. For me I can't justify spending the extra money for this version. I'll stick to the previous generation and shoot it more often to losen it up. Good review on this weapon👍
I bought a 1st version Shield NIB last year for $260 out the door. The trigger is not as nice as my 2.0 full size but it's a defensive weapon and it goes bang every time.
Not a handicap weapon but a buttery smooth amazing experience to shoot… even for the strong
Outstanding review. Sure appreciate you and the platform. What is your opinion about +P out of this gun or the standard Shield for that matter? My wife chose the standard 1.0 in 2014. My daughters chose the 45 when they first came out & I too have the 45 as a deep carry. I am considering this for my wife as she gets older her grip my wain..
Well done
I purchased this nice pistol not because I'm weak in hand grip, or new at shooting any pistols or shot guns. I purchased it because the way it handles and easier to conceal. Less recoil and it's sure shot it will take down anyone who tries to take life of mine or my family and friends
I decided to buy the gold performance center one....because bling. I have had very large calibers, but I appreciate soft shooting firearms.
I just got one and love it.
I just got the 9mm version today and I'm having a lot of trouble pushing the small slide release down to make the slide retract after I rack it. I'm doing it with an empty clip. I push it down and pull the slide back a little and it won't release. Sometimes it will but not always. It's also hard on my thumb. I hope it's a gun defect and not me. Taking it back tomorrow so they can look at it. I really like the gun though. Any ideas. Having problems finding 115 grain rounds for this weapon to use at the range so I haven't fired it yet.
My gun is the same way. I don't use the button. I just pull it back by hand and it works fine. I seen this with all the guns.
The button is a slide stop only. You pull it back by hand to rack it.
@@alsautner1732 Thank you very much for your reply. The problem I'm having is when I rack with an empty clip. It won't release the slide stop if I just pull it back and release. I need to push the button down, which is hard to do, and pull back the slide and release.
However, if I take out the clip, then I don't need to push the button down. I just pull the slide back and release. Can I assume that if I fire the gun until the clip is empty, and the slide opens and the slide locks, and then I put a fresh clip with rounds in it, that I don't need to use the button? Just pull back and release? Would it be the same when I put a loaded clip in?Just rack and release without the button?
Please note that I haven't put any rounds in the gun so I haven't fired it yet and I don't know how it works when loading, that's why I'm asking. I wanted to get familiar with it first and then go to the range. Thanks again.
@@3vino1 I too have the same question. I'm a total novice at 72. Just picked one up at Rural King and haven't fired it yet. Anyone with the answer?
we bought one ourselves last summer. we are surprised how easy it is to use. looking buy a second one.
Dont bother. No ammo anywhere. There wont ever be any in Nazi America.
Just bought one with the laser. Not many reviews out there and not a single review with the laser. I think this is the newest review I could find. I'm still kinda on the fence about the red laser but I won't get to test it for another week.
How is it with the laser
How do u like laser?
Is that the Crimson Trace? How was it?
@@donnarottinger6396 The gun itself is great. The red laser, as expected isn't all that useful in .About the same in the dark since you don't know what you're aiming at anyway. If you have the money, I'd just skip buying the laser package and get a separate laser/light combo.
@@bridgetrobertson7134 I rented the 380 EZ, and it was EZ:). Anyway, I do have it ordered, and it’s suppose to come in with a green laser. Good idea, or not? Thanks for the info.
Great shooting man 😍
Great review! This is my first gun purchase!
Mine too
Mine too :)
Mine too!
S&W's M&P slide release identifies as a slide stop, only.
It looks like the slide stop is also a safety indicator showing red until safety on grip is depressed.
Excellent review. I noticed that when you compared the .380 to the 9mm on top view , the front sight on the 9mm is dovetailed and the .380 front sight is not. Interesting.
If the glock 19 had a baby with a xd 9 and smith and Wesson raised the baby we get the m&p ez
I have the ez, love it!
I put about 100 rounds through mine and the slide release seems to have broken in a bit. It releases the slide very easily. I love this gun and I will probably get the .380 version as well.
I have the new Smith & Wesson performance center 380 EZ on the way. I’m pretty excited about it and I am sure I will do a review of it also, in maybe August or September 2020. Stay Safe.
Beretta Sr. 🥳😎👊👍🇺🇸
I would like the .380 also, but seems it's hard to,find the ammo, whereas 9mm seems more available
Robert Lyman I think the 9mm will have an edge in reliability according to our testing. Better stopping Power too.
🥳😎👊👍🇺🇸. Beretta Sr.
Great review🤙🤙 It is a nice little pistol. I was shooting low my first 50Rds. Like it though
The grip and thumb safeties are frequently a problem for new shooters, especially for women. The shooter must properly grip the pistol in order to disengage the grip safety.
Which is a good thing!
Just bought this gun. What grain seems to shot the best in this? Would 147 be too much? Or is it a matter of preference?
You can't use the slide release with an empty mag. It's easy to use with a round or an empty mag well.
What sights would you recommend for this gun???
Please post the name of the video on who used the fish scale to measure rack pull. Great review.
Oh, wow... I will try wearing my cycling gloves when i do a long range day...
I just got mine today
After around 1,000 rounds, my 1.0 Shield’s slide stop worked as a slide release.
What was so revolutionary that Sig did with the magazine in the 365 that they got a patent for, only to be one-upped by Springfield with the Hell cat?
I know this video isn't about Sig or Springfield, but it's hard to look at much larger pistols that have much less capacity. I'm looking for a handgun for my sister and the, "EZ" part has me looking hard at this one, but am not impressed with the capacity after seeing the 365 & Hellcat.
I've never had any trouble working the slide release on my EZ 9 or EZ 380 as long as there is ammo in the magazine. With an unloaded magazine it's darn near impossible to release either of them. No idea if that's by design or just dumb luck. I had gone through three or four reloads hitting the slide release, before I even realized I was doing something I didn't expect to be able to do. Insert mag, hit slide release, and back to shooting.
With an empty magazine and the slide locked back, you're needing to overcome the pressure of the magazine spring under the follower, in addition to the usual friction resistance of the slide lock mechanism.
This is true of all semi-auto pistols, but with some - notably a custom 1911-A1 type with extended slide release lever - there's enough mechanical advantage to overcome the spring pressure under the magazine follower.
The standard S&W M&P series slide lock offers little or no mechanical advantage. I'm surprised that there aren't more aftermarket levers to enable the M&P slide locks to also function as slide release levers.
I'm able to release the slide from the locked open position on my Shield Plus if I use both thumbs, or the left thumb only, but not with my right thumb (my normal shooting hand has arthritis). But I haven't tried using a fine stone to polish the mating surfaces of the slide lock lever and mating notch in the slide.
Rented it at my local range and the slide "rebounds" a bit after shooting every round. I did not like that at all.
Not to be a smart-ass but what do you mean by rebounds?
How many rounds do you have through this particular 9 ez?
Perfect pistol but i wish its double stack.
Exactly.
Agree.
then the mags would be harder to load...
@@maxximus2012 then you shouldn't own a gun
😍😍😍😍💪👊
1150 FPS for 115 gr. ammo is almost industry standard. Most are quicker. Sellier & Bellot IS actually peppy leaving at 1280 FPS. Winchester's "Active Duty" ammo is labeled as 1320 FPS at the muzzle. THAT is peppy.
I shot the range rental gun just fine. Bought one and can’t shoot it. If you relax your grip between shots, it won’t fire the second shot when you go to shoot it
I've had mine for few months and love it and my hand strength is fine I just liked the easy features mine is in fde and looks really sharp they did an amazing job and it has eaten everything I've put through with no mishaps I would like to see in future them get a plus 3 or even two mag extension just to get it up to double digits. "Taran tactical any ideas"....
I'm in the market for my first pistol, possibly a 9mm. This M&P Shield 9 EZ looks nice, but the small mag size is a total turn off. So far I'm pretty much up in the air about which to get, but I have my eye on the Ruger SR9C, and the Beretta 92 Compact.
It's a single stack and 8 plus 1 is plenty in a defensive situation. Once the threat is over, stop shooting, otherwise you could have 12 giving you an opinion.
@@romans6two338 It'd be a range gun, with basically zero % chance of actually being used defensibly.
@@ericbergfield6451 Then I would suggests the Beretta 92 and spend a little extra and get the new one the M9A3. It is nice and well worth the money. I shot the M9 in the service and it's a great gun.
Glock 19, or Glock 26????? Anyone?
They are Awesome too for first 9mm handguns. IMO. Easy to Learn with One Bang Switch to pay attention to after Your Sights Are On Target. Finger OUT of the trigger area until Your Sights Are On Target Please. 🤗🥳👊😎👍🇺🇸
Beretta Sr.
I can easily use the slide release. But I am a lefty.
You can switch the mag release to the right if you want
Slide is butter smooth after 150 rounds +
Couldn't possibly be as smooth as the firearm I have on the way.
300 rounds in and not a single jam.
The iron sights take some getting used to. It is more like the white dot on where you want it to go for sure
Prefer the thumb safety version. I disagree that this is a senior or beginner pistol .,It is basically a modernized 3914. It is a compact , shootable pistol. With one in the chamber, you have 9 rounds. You also have a flat, concealable , shootable pistol suitable for ccw or home defense
Can’t find any extended mags for the EZ … any ideas ?
My ez 9 is really with red dot
That poor hostage
6:45 I think I will purchase a motorcycle helmet for range practice. 🤠
Bought 2 of the EZ 380's for my wife and daughter and shot them for the first time today. Very disappointed. On both guns we had failure to eject issues about every 4th to 5th round. Not week grip and used all 4 mags that came with both guns. Has to be the weak spring in the mags. Thoughts?
I’ve seen many reviews of this pistol and those few who have had a stove pipe malfunction do tend to think it may be the spring in the magazine.
If you think it’s the mags, contact S&W and they will take care of it. Love that life time warranty...
Clean and lube. It's a common issue if they haven't been cleaned properly. Especially when brand new. They even say in the instructions to clean and lube out of the box.
Ge hot amo
If you carry this, how do you carry extra mags? Wouldn't they get snagged?
Mag pouch or retention holder. The tabs are pushed toward the base plate and that helps keep them from snagging.
I also occasionally carry my extra in my left pocket. No problems there.
Are you going to Talon Grip it?
I also would like to know whether generally speaking this is a softer shooting gun than the Sig Sauer P365, which I find to be quite snappy even with about 800 rounds through it. I understand the answer will have something to do with ammunition choices. Anyone who has experience with both? My arthritic hands are crippled after 3-4 hundred rounds at the range.
Mark S Delaney Generally speaking, a pistol with a larger frame will have less recoil. I have the P365SAS with the ported barrel. It still has more recoil than my other pistols. My others are CZP10S, HK VP9SK, Walther PPQ, PPQ Q5 Match and Sig 320 XCompact. My favorites to shoot are the 2 Walthers.
Thomas M Cozart
Since writing my question I’ve bought a Springfield 1911 TRP .45 and a Sig P220 Legion .45 and they are both softer shooting than the P365, but I wouldn’t want to carry them all day.
My EZ seems to shoot accurate. Maby more than my glock 19 gen 3. I have a serious injury to my right rist and only thing i dis like bout it is the ammo capacity. But from my research most gun fights are over from 2 to 5 shots. So im cool with it unless were at a full blown war
Yes
Way too many ads. Nice pistol. MikeinMinnesota
S&W now has a recall for mp shields. Go to their website. Cracked trigger?
Recall was from certain guns manufactured from May to October.
Was it just me?or was that brass kicking out at several different angles?
