    After every cook I get my plastic container from Costco with yellow top I put the grill grates in and spray some easy off for grills and some citrus degreaser or pitboss degreaser and let it set 10 minutes, then put dawn soap in and put hair water in it again set for 10 minutes. Then I use steel wool and a kitchen sponge and clean the grated everything cleans off so easy. Rinse them dry.
    For the smoker I put aluminum foil under the length of the auger to keep things off the bottom of the barrel and it goes half way up the barrel. Just remove the foil, vacuum, spray some orange degreaser or pitboss degreaser and wipe down put new foil in the bottom of the barrel. Lastly I wrap my heat shield with foil fully if not using the seat or cover everything but the seat area if using the seat. This means almost everything goes on the foil and doesn’t cake up on the heat shield. Makes for easy clean up.
    By doing this it stays clean and only takes about 10 minutes to wipe, vacuum, and replace foil.
    I can’t cook on a dirty smoker and I use it every weekend and at times during the week. Keep it clean and it takes less time.

    Good video. I scrape mine right into the grill then vacuum so my dogs don't eat the char on the grass. Was thinking of hitting the cast iron with a wire brush every few months but not sure.

      Did ya get one? I just did my first cook on mine and it’s awesome. The smart grill controls make everything incredibly easy. I cooked the best steaks I’ve ever made on this thing!

    I saw a guy spray canola oil on that searing plate after cleaning. Might keep stuff from sticking? One question, would it be better or possible to season those lower grates the same way one would season a cast iron skillet? Like bake some lard on it and make it non stick? Thanks for the video. I just got mine and getting ready to use it first time. 👍

      I watched that guy also lol seems like a legit idea but after a while of cooking on it I'm sure it won't matter that much to you. I go longer than I should between cooks for sure now but at least every 6 or 8 cooks I'll clean it out. I really appreciate the comment and hope you enjoy your pit boss🍻

    What’s the best way to get unused pellets out of the auger? Just run it until it’s empty?

    • @OFFFishing
      @OFFFishing  Před rokem

      There's a small door in back of hopper that let's you empty out the hopper and then you have to run out what's inside the auger and your emptied out hope that helps👌

    Could your pressure wash the heat shield?

    • @OFFFishing
      @OFFFishing  Před rokem

      I don't see why you couldn't, may rust a bit if you do tho. I just scrape the crud off and it's good to go

    You keep your smoker at your neighbours house or you just wash your dirty bits at your neighbours house LOL ?

    What brush do you use? It's so sturdy!

  • @thomasjobe3915

    Why don't you just vacuum out the guts then put everything back? Turn it up to 400° get it hot then just take a wire brush to the the grates and heat shield. Whole lot easier than everything you did. Also I would keep dish washing liquid away at all cost.

    • @OFFFishing
      @OFFFishing  Před 2 lety +1

      Did you see the heat shield? It would just cake up more over time if you don't scrape it off and the grates need a good scrub after a cook or two and dawn cuts the grease pretty good. It's not hard at all to do the job right and literally takes all of ten minutes to do but I do appreciate your comment and taking the time to watch

      I just bought a Pit Boss 850 and did 3 cooks so far. Why keep dish soap away?

    • @OFFFishing
      @OFFFishing  Před 2 lety +3

      @@hawkinsdj99 .. yeah I cooked on mine yesterday after 3 cooks so probably every 4 or 5 cooks would be sufficient. I'm not sure why he said keep dawn away but it works great for cleaning the grates with a brush.

    • @CamoDC4L
      @CamoDC4L Před rokem +1

      It literally says in the users manual to clean everything out after 3-5 smokes. You can’t just turn it up to 400 and expect everything to just disappear. I reverse sear my steaks. If you don’t clean out your smoker then once you turn the temp up to sear your plates you will have a massive grease fire in your smoker. You clearly know nothing about this. Also as long as you rinse away the dawn dish soap with water it is perfectly ok to use it. I honestly can’t tell if you are being troll or being serious but I can’t imagine what your pit boss looks like if you never clean it like this 😅
