  • ...Pit Boss 850 PSv2 Unboxing...Why I Bought a Pit Boss Pellet Smoker...My initial thoughts after my first cook on my new Pit Boss 850 Pro Series 2 pellet smoker. This will never replace or be a substitute for my Franklin offset. It's just another member of the family...

    This was a great video. Underrated for how much info you gave. I just bought this girl today and couldn't be more excited to try it out.

      Congrats, I've been using mine more than I thought I would. I've been impressed with how consistent it is.

    Looks nice. Looking forward to your first cook video. Hey! I saw some Franklin smokers up close and personal. We went to a BBQ supply store in OKC yesterday. Those things are unbelievable!

      They are pretty! I'm glad to see they are getting a dealer network going. Wish they would've had it back when I got mine, then I wouldn't have had to wait as long.

    Nice review. I recently got an 850 and can confirm that on mine the hot side is on the pellet chamber side too. I measured mine a week or so ago and I discovered that the pellet chamber side was consistently ~20 degrees hotter than the stack side. Not a big deal now that I know, but it definitely made some longer than expected cook times and inconsistencies make sense

      They all have hot spots, no matter what you go with. I've considered adding a second smoke stack to the pellet side to even out the temp a bit.

    Spot on review. I have the 850 pro and was wondering about the hot spots. Thank you. I will also comment on how well made it is.

    Was looking at getting either this one or the Laredo 1000

      I'm sure both are a great choice.

    Do you think you can fit two full briskets on it?

    • @bbqelevated
      @bbqelevated  Před 9 měsíci +1

      I'd say yes, just based on comparing it to my Franklin Pit, although I haven't tried yet.

    I just picked this one up a few days ago on sale too, $499, assembly and delivery was free and was actually delivered on Labor Day before 10am. I'm still trying to figure out how exactly to tell if it's in smoke mode or not. Like is there a difference between setting it to 180f in the app vs smoke mode? There's no indicator on the panel or the app to show smoke mode is on or off. Best I can't tell smoke mode is just anything in the 180-200 range. Also there's only two "P" modes, P1 and P2. I see a lot of people talking about setting it at P4 or P7... mine doesn't go beyond 2. Not sure why they made it so difficult to tell what mode it's in.

      @bbqelevated  Před 10 měsíci

      How mine is setup there's no smoke mode persay. It creates smoke when it feeds in pellets. Then, you can push the prime button to make it force feed more pellets in.
      Unless you're talking about the degree of smoke, mine goes 1-5. You have to turn the dial all the way down past 180. When it's at 5, that's when it's at the smoke level setting. From there, you can lower it below 5.

      @jamesg8246 Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@bbqelevated My understanding is it is not a 5 it is meant to be an S as in smoke. If I press the button and get the S it doesn't change if I turn the dial to the left. Like I can't bring up the 5 or S and set it to 4 or 3. It only goes from the 5 or S to 180 and higher from there.

    • @bbqelevated
      @bbqelevated  Před 10 měsíci

      Ya mines pretty much the same way. I think I get what you're saying now. When you're on the S you have to press the recipe button. Then you're able to change the P setting and set a timer for how often you want it to produce smoke.

    • @jamesg8246
      @jamesg8246 Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@bbqelevated I'll have to try that again. Yesterday I managed to get the P settings to show up and left it on P1 with no time and the thing ended up putting itself into shut down on its own a few minutes later. It's just a very unintuitive system.

    • @bbqelevated
      @bbqelevated  Před 10 měsíci

      Yes, and the manual makes no mention of any of it. Definitely going to have to be something that's learned through trial and error.

    Isn't it supposed to have a fan built in to properly maintain heat distribution

    • @bbqelevated
      @bbqelevated  Před 28 dny

      The fan just pushes air into the fire pot.

      Ok. Thank you for the reply, the person I spoke with at Lowe's did not know what they were talking about. Awesome video by the way

    I was undecided about getting this model during the Labor Day sale now that I want it it’s $599 so I think I’m just gonna go up to the pro 1150 which $699

      @bbqelevated  Před 10 měsíci

      The 1150 looks nice. I like that it has the removable ash clean out tray.
