    No matter how cheap it may be, or convenient, the fact that NYC has no direct rail from JFK or LGA to Manhattan is shameful at best. When compared to other world cities, there is zero excuse for the MTA to not have built it already.

    • @EMSpdx
      @EMSpdx Před 9 měsíci +6

      LOL! Venice does not have this, neither does Paris ( it's a similar system to NYC) Nor London, nor Lagos.

      @@EMSpdx What are you talking about? Paris has multiple train stations, one even has a EuroStart connection that could bring you directly to London or obviously city center. I wouldn't call Venice a world city and its airport is fairly small (do you seriously compare NYC with Venice?!). And for London: Again, they have multiple options, especially for Heathrow. So starventure is right, why is nyc not capable of building a direct connection for their airports? Every bigger european airport has it as default: Heathrow, Amsterdam, Munich, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Madrid, Zurich, Paris, Milano, Berlin, Copenhagen, and dozens more.

      @@EMSpdx Charles de Gaulle to Gare du Nord, one RER train. Not Orly airport though.
      London Heathrow has the Heathrow Express, the Elizabeth line and the tube. Luton, Gatwick, Stansted not so much. Most major western European, and advanced economy east Asian, cities have direct train connection from at least one airport to their city centre. Of course there are exceptions.

      I always found it insane that you can get literally anywhere by train from Manhattan... even other states! But noooo not the airport, for that you have to transfer 10 miles away and connect with the airtrain.

    • @starventure
      @starventure Před 8 měsíci

      @@darkwoodmovies Cuomo ruined the chances of LGA ever getting rail with his foolish idea of using Flushing as a connection to the 7 train. Had they incorporated a new train line from the very beginning that would have gone through Jackson Heights to the Woodside yards, the terminal design would have been different from what it is now. Now there is no room for a train station other than to go eastwards towards Flushing.

    When I first started visiting the city I was intimidated with the subway ect. So I started watching videos like yours , printed out maps ect. I decided to make my first subway ride simple from Penn Station to uptown with no transfers to help me gain confidence. After that it was easy ! Also, just use your phone to pay . If you are not sure, ask someone for help . The police as well as other New Yorkers are very friendly . Also a printed copy of the subway system trains are a good back up plan that give one some insurance . So just do you homework and resist using the taxis and Uber - they are expensive and take much more time as you are moving through the streets slowly - at least 5 times slower ! Trains are less than $3.00. I paid $30.00 to go from midtown to downtown and the time it took was 35 minutes vs 10 minutes !

    • @timlaunyc
      @timlaunyc Před 8 měsíci +1

      It depends on how large. Private busses (NJ Transit is public transport) like the airport shuttles will have luggage storage at the bottom, accessible from outside, so you won't be carrying that with you to your seat. The airport busses will stop at Port Authority Bus Terminal on 8th Ave, between 40th and 42nd. You can also take the Newark (EWR) Airtrain to Newark Airport Station on NJ Transit. There you can take an NJ Transit train into New York Penn Station (8th Ave, between 31st and 32nd street).

    Great video. FYI to future visitors, no one from NYC calls it “city center”. It’s just called midtown if you are going to the middle of manhattan.

      You are wrong. if your going into Manhattan you say I am going into the city and not Midtown unless you are going to Midtown which consists of 34th street to 59th street between 3rd Ave to 8th Ave

    Great video! Two questions. First, is there a fee to ride the Air Train to the rideshare pick up spot? Or do you only pay if you’re going further? Second, can you use contactless payment for the buses?

      You only pay for the AirTrain when you exit at the Jamaica station
      You could ride it in a circle and never leave for free 😂

    Does the amount shown in Lyft includes everything like taxes and tips or that is added to the amount shown at pick up time?

    The cheapest way to reach Manhattan is: go with airtrain (free ride) to Howard Beach without exiting . Buy at the vendor a weekly metrocard or a single ride metro card (it depends how long you stay in NY), then come back (for free) to Leffert Blvd, go down and take the Bus Q10 LTD (just pay attention at Leffert BLVD, because there are 2 exit and one of that is for Q3 bus), till last stop Kew Gardens, it takes about 25 minutes. Take Subway E or F and will be in Manhattan in about 1 hour from JFK .

    Hi, thanks for the advice, I am going again to NYC for Tech Conferences, so the first time I was there I was using the MTA Card Unlimited for one week, in this case, do I need to pay those 5$ or more for the ticket in the sub? or the Unlimited works?

    How come when flying into JFK you recommend taking the AirTrain to the Long Island Railroad train and going into Penn Station but when flying into EWR you don't recommend taking the AirTrain to the NJ Transit train and coming into Penn Station from the other direction. Wouldn't the bus be prone to delays from traffic?

    One tip for JFK: If the Train Time app is not working for you, just go to Jamaica Station and hop on the LIRR anyways. The conductor can sell you a ticket! They are really nice and understand that you are new in town! Weirdly, there was a hiccup in the Airtrain system so it wound up being free late in the afternoon today. Also: 1) The UN is in session and the President is there, so expect CRAZY traffic in midtown with a very heavy police presence if you are coming right now. 2) Havinga. car service is great if you are in a group or family!

    • @Jc42bugs
      @Jc42bugs Před 8 měsíci

      but the conductor sells you the ticket is expensive, if it was me i would buy a city ticket for 5 or 7 dollars on the lirr.

      Or use the special LIRR Ticket Vending Machines at Jamaica (They are Green) which will sell you a combo Metrocard and LIRR Ticket. The MetroCard can be reloaded for use later in your trip.
