Langer Anlauf, steile Rampe und dann alles auf Abfahrt: Die kanadischen Psychedelic Rocker von Black Mountain trödeln sich gerne in ihre Songs und wechseln dann so konsequent wie zuverlässig auf den Beschleunigungsstreifen.
Erst fängt er ganz langsam an und nimmt sich jede Menge Zeit. Und dann geht er richtig ab und brettert los. Mit mächtigen Gitarren, einem knackigen Schlagzeug und einem kernigen Basslauf. Die Rede ist von „Licensed To Drive“, einem Song von „Destroyer“, dem 2019er-Album von Black Mountain.
So konsequent und diszipliniert die kanadische Psychedelic-Rock-Band diesen Song aufbaut, so wahrhaftig ist die Geschichte dahinter. Den Führerschein hat Sänger und Gitarrist Stephen McBean nämlich schon länger. Aber er ist einfach nicht gefahren. Sondern war nicht nur umweltbewusst, sondern auch mutig unterwegs.
Stephen McBean ist sogar in den Jahren, in denen er in Los Angeles gelebt hat, mit dem Fahrrad gefahren. Radfahren mag der Musiker immer noch. Aber er fährt mittlerweile auch hin und wieder selbst Auto. Und dabei hat er entdeckt, dass er hinter dem Lenkrad Musik ganz anders wahrnimmt: „Ich habe bestimmte Alben von Judas Priest und Slayer zum ersten Mal beim Fahren gehört. Und das war ziemlich berauschend“. Wo auch immer Stephen McBean Musik hört - für den Sound von Black Mountain gilt irgendwann immer eins: Abfahrt!

Singer back, cool. But, what happened to the rhythm section ??? Those guys were solid with this band, and better than these two. Especially, a bass player that doesn't use a pick
That delay on the keyboard has no sense at all.... It completely destroys the groove. Soundman fail?
I like these theys quite a bit and I don’t mind her voice on their studio stuff, but I’m glad I watched this because her voice simply isn’t good enough for a live performance. I always thought it was iffy and I was right. Idk what they were thinking including her when she doesn’t play an instrument.
And honestly the dudes in the band can’t really sing either. They had a good run considering.

@@MulletKid agree to disagree. That gal can’t sing and that’s a big part of why they’re played out as an act. Before watching this I would have put effort into seeing them live, but now, no way. She clearly has stage fright btw, and I don’t blame her.
