Wow! That looks fantastic. I've seen other lava base tutorials, but I've never seen anyone use transparent paints before. I can't wait to try this technique!
My 6 yr old twins were really excited to see you paint this. They are just learning about lava and volcanoes.... I could hardly get them to go to bed tonight because they watched 4 of your videos and wanted to keep going!! :) Thank you!
That was an awesome tutorial! Just found your channel today, and I've learned so much in the few hours I've spent watching your videos. I'm just getting back into this stuff again after about 10 years and your tutorials are great to refresh me on old techniques I've forgotten and to learn new ones I've never thought of, thank you.
yay, finally another vid :D so few lately, was getting worried :( glad you are still going with them, as you have such a soothing, relaxing attitude towards the hobby :D
I know a way you could improve this base, I'm sure you'll like my ideas! I like to build up around the bottom areas of the platforms with putty slightly just to give that extra thick feeling to the lava. Also, instead of using the yellow and orange highlights around the base of the platforms I used red on the bottom, and slightly orange on top of it and then applied a red wash to it like the one used on the lava. Also another tip is also to build up and smooth out the platforms a bit more. I know it's only a tutorial piece and I'm nitpicking but if you don't usually do the things I mention I recommend you give it a try! This tutorial plus the things I came up with gave me some great bases. Thanks heaps!
I'm setting about making bases atm. Quick Drying Green Putty (I guess it's like liquid Green Stuff) when squeezed right out of the tube makes for good rocky areas, then sculpt in some runs for liquid (water, slime, chemical, lava) . I plan on making a base like this, so I'll need to buy some cork (got some other plans for it too). I can see how I can use the techniques for other liquid surfaces. Thanks a lot for the tips!
Thank you for drawing my attention to that Freak Flex Paints. I've never heard of them before, but as for blood and alike, they seem to be just perfect. I definitely will give them a try. Thanks again.
I'm new to your channel, I've watched about 5 videos up to now and I'm really enjoying them, this lava base looks absolutely stunning! I haven't painted warhammer for several months unfortunately, as the final year of my law degree is taking over everything right now! I have subscribed to your channel and I'm looking forward to seeing more from you, this will definitely help me get back into painting when I have the time again; I've already picked up some really useful tips from you so I'm very excited to get even more :) Many thanks :)
For somebody looking to get into MWG, and model panting as well, what brand of paints/primers/washes do you reccomend getting? They're mostly plastic models btw..
Bitte mach weiter so !
I love how in reply to a reply on a vid of yours back in 2010, you promised to show hwo to make a lava base, and now in 2012, you have kept that promise :D BTW love your vids.
Is There any alternative to the transparent paints you use?? I was thinking something like an extremely thin down colour and a layer of glistening varnish, would you say that will work?
If you didnt prime it a brighter yellow because you didn't have the spray can, you could always just use a white primer and then airbrush the yellow on or even the first coat of orange. Just a thought.
die angemalte base mit decert yellow siehts aus also ob das so ne sandbase wäre so sand dünnen oder ? was denkst du ? es hat doch was an scih für die tallarner
Cool. Was meinst Du?
Painting looks GREAT, but arent the colors in lava in reverse order (high spots dark, low, light)? I would like to know how to use the freakflex with the colors in reverse order.
This is a very good effect, however you did paint the colors in reverse from what lava really looks like, the yellows and whites should be in the low spots, and the orange and red should be in the high spots. overall very good
Hey! GREAT VIDEO! Oh, I was following along when my bro shot me with a bi-bi gun! XD AND THEN! I thought... What if....I slice the bi-bi in half....AND USE IT AS A BUBBLE! So yeah.I sliced it. And P.V.A glued it on! P.s LOVE YOUR VIDEOS SO FREAKING MUCH! :D
there is a similar thing you can use called uhu glue, which can also coat over things to create a transparent look as well as texturing things. Smells really bad though.
I like this base, but you painted the lava inside out. Sure, sometimes the edges of the lava are also darker, but most often were it hits the borders of rock, it is yellow/brighter. The middle of the stream is more often darker. Similiar to fire it is most often painted inside out. Better start with yellow.
+Teskal Flink Good thing you are a geologist or I would have done it all wrong. Although then I google lava and find you are incorrect anyway. It's moments like these I'm glad priests aren't scientists.
Wow! That looks fantastic. I've seen other lava base tutorials, but I've never seen anyone use transparent paints before. I can't wait to try this technique!

Impressive, when you applied those inks (think it was inks) to the painted lava it really transformed the whole thing and made it look great
Thank you. I have been looking for a good lava scheme form my knight’s pyroclastic exhaust from hiss utter rage for flesh.

Best intro on youtube :D
this is my favourite girl painting vid!
um, did you put a glaze over the cork? or did you just primer right on it?
Is There any alternative to the transparent paints you use?? I was thinking something like an extremely thin down colour and a layer of glistening varnish, would you say that will work?
You're the best in making tutorials u know that? :D
You make everything look so easy. I have trouble painting my miniatures....

what is the brand of the transparent paints?
fucking amazing, honestly
what the withe substance was used to make waves?
the GW equivalent is liquid green stuff the one she uses is the valeho something
that look amazing and could you use normal acrilic paint because i have the orange highlight paint. but could you would it have any differnc
Also, the transparent paint. Is that essentially an Ink, like what you'd get from Coat D'Arms?
Have you considered using clear glass beads for lava bubbles?
This would be soooo cool for khorne bloodletters

what model is you using that base on?
hallo,
Wich glue do you use?
die angemalte base mit decert yellow siehts aus also ob das so ne sandbase wäre so sand dünnen oder ? was denkst du ? es hat doch was an scih für die tallarner
Put the superglue on the base rarther than the cork. Its easier! End result is nice.
Can you do a similar thing with a Water base?
can you get the same out come by using just gw paints
you should do a water base!!!! :)

Painting looks GREAT, but arent the colors in lava in reverse order (high spots dark, low, light)? I would like to know how to use the freakflex with the colors in reverse order.
Let the glue start to tack before sticking it on. Give it 30 seconds to a minute.
This is a very good effect, however you did paint the colors in reverse from what lava really looks like, the yellows and whites should be in the low spots, and the orange and red should be in the high spots. overall very good

you and I have the same camera: Panasonic sd-40, right?
if you painted it brown and added flock, it would look like a swamp or a bog of some sort
there is a similar thing you can use called uhu glue, which can also coat over things to create a transparent look as well as texturing things. Smells really bad though.
Thats...a LAVAly job
hmm...
you could also leave the little dried areas orangy-yellow for lava-bubbles :p
Thumbs up if you think GirlPainting is one of the best painters of these series on CZcams! :D
Now, I want pizza. grrrr But I want always pizza...
wie heißt dein lets play changle?
Mmmm all i could think was spagetti sauce :)
watch with captions on its funny

do you think you could make me one please :)
never noticed that haha
What do you say at the beginning? Hi Jimies? What does that mean???
this why girls should paint figures and guys play whit em
interesting. I would have thought you would have painted the rocks first :)
She says "Hi Toubies!" Like you-tubers
When I glue cork I put the glue on the base first
