Your pump should be fed by gravity. The tank needs to be elevated higher than the pump.

Last year for Ford trucks and cars to feature a generator

64 was the last year of the straight-axle front end. Long ago I had one which somebody had dropped a 427 medium-rise side-oiler engine in. The bed floor had been covered with 1/4" diamond-plate steel so the tires didn't go up in smoke when you hit the gas. Scary fast, wish I had either the truck or the engine now.
I did have an odd fueling problem with it once. It started running bad but an electric racing fuel pump helped though didn't cure it. The pump seemed to be running far too much, an "AHA!" moment. The fuel line betw3en tank and pump looked fine. I unscrewed the fitting and checked the fuel pick-up line inside the tank and it had pinholes rusted in it, so like a straw with a hole it couldn't pull fuel up no matter how much pump was applied. I was able to get a double-compression fitting from the plumbing department of the hardware store with some copper tube and attach it to the cut-off stub I left after cutting the rusted part out. Went back to the mechanical pump and It worked a charm till I blew the trans and sold the truck. Check the mounts where the cab bolts to the frame; that sheet metal is known for rusting out. Also be sure the drain holes at the bottom of the door are open. The rear cab corners can collect water so they can rust too but that's mostly cosmetic.
May you enjoy your truck forever!

Last year for the cab steps too. Be careful with your trans, only a two year trans. 63 was the first year for a first gear synchro, and the input shafts on the 223s are very specific. Hard to replace. And a new 3.03 will not work and can’t be made too. Cheers

Where the fuel line goes across the frame rails collects mud in cross member and rust your fuel line it's. It's kind of hard to see

Love your 64. I bought a 62 F100 with 223 and automatic back in 2019 from a farmer. We had fueling problems on my test drive and he put a cheaper Holley electric pump in to sell it to me and also got a mechanical that he gave me that I have never put on. I have been using it as my “daily” in KC since then. I’ve only had the typical old truck problems since then and love it…Your engine bay and cab look so similar to mine. That’s so cool. Good luck with your project, I know it will be fun.

      Thank you very much!
I have since got it running with a cheap Holley electric pump, got some brake issues to fix but will get it buttoned up this spring.
I am in the KC area as well

Your 223 is probably actually a 262. Same as a 223, just bigger. The rocker cover is the giveaway

      Interesting! Good to know

All the 262s I saw had the breather towards to middle of the valve cover

@@bradyteneyckThe cover is definitely a 262 cover but maybe they used it on a 223 for whatever reason. Did you check your build plate by chance?

As far as fuel pumps go, Dennis carpenter is licensed by Ford and has “Ford quality” parts of the era

Thats good to know, I was frustrated and has since wired up a electric pump and got it running, I will be releasing a video on it too and first drive. Brakes need some attention lol...
