Great video! my eyes do open during the night 😔 what nightime ointment do you recommend? also, I just started Systane Complete PF, for during the day, is this better than Systane Hydration PF? I'm currently on Xiidra and Avenova lid spray twice a day. Thank you!!
@@zoe.c.2116 Thank you! I like both complete and hydration. Complete covers both the lipid and aqueous layer of your tears, so it is a more complete drop, but I also love how the hydration feels... so you can't go wrong. If you want to stick with a preservative free for the ointment, celluvisc is a classic if you haven't tried that. If you sleep with your eyes open, you should check out one of my recent videos: czcams.com/video/SwTlL-7nprU/video.html if you haven't already.
Eye ointment helps keep eyes lubricated at night and also helps heal the eye surface. Cleaning the eyelids made a huge difference to me. I also started taking areds2 vitamin 2x a day instead of 1x. Started fish oil and vitamin d and using much fewer eye drops now and feel much better. I use preservative free with omega 3. Heal from within as much as possible
I’ve been dry 15 years now since accutane I hate doing so much before bed Still wake up exhausted Dry eyes crusted mucus hurt when I open them sometimes like paper cuts Dry nasal passages Mouth lips I haven’t woke up refreshed since 2008 :(
:( oh my god. I finished my dose of accutane 5 months ago, and ever since then, my eyes have gotten worse and worse. Now I have dry eyes and I am just now learning how to take care of them.. I didn’t know that the medications caused dry eyes 😭😭 I can’t study on my ipad or watch tiktok or tv without getting a headache. Do you have any tips to help soothe the pain? :( I have started using preservative free eyes drops and eye gel. The eye gel is my saving grace . Has helped tremendously for the past 6 days. I'm so glad you are educating us suffers, Doctor. You seem so genuine & your explanations are clear & concise. Sometimes my eyes are so dry in the morning, that I have to use my index finger & thumb to open my lids. This happened when I was diagnosed with Vitreous detachment about 8 months ago, and went to 2 Doctors. The first one was laughing haha, it could last 12 months & with no info. I'm retired from the medical field & I let him have it, in so many words about his manner. The second Dr. was a lot more informative & the jellyfish floater is shrinking slowly. With your information, I will now go back & see if I should get a prescription ointment for my nighttime sleep. Thank you again.
It is a pity that I do not know English and do not understand what you are talking about, but I am trying to translate and I understand that the information in the video is very useful to me. Thank you
I always have horrible dry eyes in the morning. I just tried a mask to keep my eyelids closed at night (girlfriend told me my eyes don't close all the way and I didn't realise that may cause my dry eyes until this video), but it didn't work - it's too tight when it actually holds my eyelids. I've read that cotton pads may help with that, so I'm gonna try that tonight. Thank you for this video!
@@DrEyeGuy Unfortunately it didn't work. Tried this once, first day I felt no difference and the second day I just woke up without the mask. I'm going to try the tape method.
Yep, this is me for years. Now having the complication of ptosis of both eyelids and upcoming cataract surgeries. So when I'm recovered from the cataracts, then the eyelids get trimmed for the drooping problem which will put the night time opening thing into hyperdrive. Guess I'll be trying the tape and / or the masks to deal with that.
I wish you well with the upcoming surgeries. You can check out one of my recent videos about a new type of eyelid seal tape that works pretty well: czcams.com/video/SwTlL-7nprU/video.html
Up to 4 times a day for preservative free drops? Is that the maximum? On some days I need drops every 20 minutes and my eyes still feel like they are burning, I use thealoz duo singles and the red hyco san but they just don’t help. I also have dry mouth but tests for sjorgens come back negative even though they both came on severely at the same time.
Have you made any experiences with naviblef intensive care? I sometimes use it, it is for massaging the eye from the outside. However it causes severe burn if it touches the eye
Dr EyeGuy, my eyes hate eye gels. I don't know why. If I use them my eyes are red and terrible when I wake up. I wish I could find an eye gel that was good for extra sensitive eyes.
Hi Doc, In some other videos of yours you mentioned using Hypochlorous acid , I bought some from Avenova today , It said no need to rinse off after applying but I was wondering if I do rinse it of will that diminish its efficiency? Or is ok to either leave it on or rinse ok ? Just wondering because my eyes are usually super sensitive to products but I have some mild Blepharitis that optases gel in not helping getting rid off the problem so gonna try this Avenova but I wanted to know if I rinse it off after cleaning my lids will still be effective or leaving it on is a must ? Thanks for the help.
Great question. If you rinse it right after then it will diminish the efficiency. If you can leave it on, at least for a little bit, that would be best.
@@DrEyeGuy one more question if posible. Since Hypochlorous acid help fight overgrowth of bacteria and help keep the area clean for people with MGD and other eye issues, hypochlorous acid kills a wide range of microorganism. But how do you keep a healthy balance of good bacteria on the eyes because you need some beneficial bacteria to keep your eyes healthy as well right? This product says you can use it daily twice a day for example, so what are your thoughts on that matter Doctor and what will you recommend for someone with mild Blepharitis and dry eyes? Thanks so much for your input. Your videos are awesome I have learn a lot.
Hi! I’m 16 and I’ve been struggling with dry eyes since 8th grade. It’s really made my life more annoying and I don’t have a large amount of screen time. I’ve also tried the systane dry eyes gel and oil drop and the a Vogel drops. I additionally use a humidifier and take omega 3s. I still constantly deal with the issue of dry eyes and I wake up and one of the eyes will be red. What are some good ointments and what would you recommend?
They don't help the dryness or they don't help the pinguecula? The drops won't get rid of the pinguecula. But they can help reduce inflammation, and help your eyes from getting too dry to cause the pinguecula to get worse. A lot of the times the artificial tears are used for prevention, to avoid ocular surface damage.
I have to use ointment before I go to bed, because my eyes dry out really bad while I'm sleeping. I have dry eye syndrome, and ended up with recurrent corneal erosion in my left eye when I woke up one morning with my eyelid stuck to my eyeball, and my cornea tore when I opened my eyes. I have no idea why they dry out so bad when I'm sleeping. There's no way I can go to sleep without ointment😢
I have recurrent corneal erosion as well, I trained myself to not open my eyes till I put eye drops in my eyes in the morning. Using drops and cream I had continuous relapses, till I started to using an eye mask at night along with everything else and slowly the tears got less and less. Today it has been five years since my last tear but I still do drops, cream and musk religiously.
I never had morning dry eyes. I just started wearing multifocal contact lenses and now I wake up and my eyes are super dry. Only for about a minute or so, but it is new for me to experience this. I don't sleep in them so I find it odd only when I wake up. I have been doing the heated mask before bed and taking olive oil supplements. Is it possible the contacts are just magnifying an issue I always had? Appreciate any suggestions.
Easy experiment: don't wear the contacts for a week. Do your symptoms abate? In my experience, contacts do not help at all. Post cataract surgery, with EDOF lenses, and my eyes are way happier.
Do you have any dry eye questions for me?
What drops do you recommend to use in the morning?
@@angieguymon4764 There are a lot of good drops. Refresh Relieva preservative free drops would be a great option.

Love this!!! Morning dryness is a real thing! We can tell what side a patient sleeps on based on the lids and pattern of dry eye.
Sometimes patients are shocked I can tell if they sleep with their eyes open. 😄
