    I have a cornea condition that causes severe dry eyes. I am also alergic to most of the preservatives they use to make most products that are supposed to help. After countless doctors & all their recommendations that actually made things worse, I decided to try my own idea & use the same thing I use for any topical application to the body...cold pressed virgin coconut oil. Just put a dab in the bottom eyelid and blink several times to spead it around. Not only does it work wonders, but is extremely affordable. I will never use anything else. Last trip for followup the doctor asked if the "Cequa" was working. I told him my insurance would't cover the $600 and told him what I've been using. At first he was appauled, but after seeing how much of an improvement I have, he actually told me to keep using it. You'll never hear a doctor tell you that!

Never thought it would be my eye lids until I was doing the research for any kind of help. Last night I saw your first video I have looked at. I did the warm compresses, light massage and hard blinking. That alone made a huge difference. I was told that using eye drops for tears was damaging to the eyes. I have been using Refresh Tears Lubricant Eye Drops that was recommended by my eye doctor few years back. It does help but I saw a new one I never saw that you recommended. For GLA, I was using Now Foods. I have since discontinued this. Half a year after getting SMILE, my MGD has improved substantially because I am not wearing contacts every day. I continue to take the omega 3 for heart health (even though there is some question as to if such supplementation has benefit in that area.) I also still do the Bruder mask and scrub, but once every few days instead of twice a day. I also did not note in the original comment that I take a high dose of turmeric. I started taking it for arthritis, as it is a potent anti-inflammatory. However, I think it likely played a role in my SMILE recovery and MGD management because it how great it is at knocking down inflammation, and both refractive eye surgery recovery and MGD entail inflammation.

    Dr. Guymon, great video! You’re doing a wonderful service. As one OD to another, may I suggest that you consider the underlying cause of dry eye? I believe dry eye is part of a syndrome of inflammatory metabolic disease. Omega 3 helps greatly with inflammation, but if you reverse insulin resistance, you will see massive improvement in patient success. Unless we correct the cause, we are just managing symptoms.

    Wish I could talk to you about my condition. I've been to two doctors who told me to wait and see how the condition of my eyes develops.
    This is the story...
    1 About 2 weeks ago, my right eye started to hurt and I noticed the most pain is with movement
    2 I noticed that the pain slowly gets worse throughout the day until at night it is very bad... though for the last few days there may be some slight improvement with slightly less pain at night.
    3 Both eyes have since started to tear up and itch throughout the day. More so later in the day.
    4 There is also pain in the sinus above my eyes close to the nose and in the right temple, though it's mild.
    5 Every other aspect of my eye function is normal so far... tested by two doctors. Normal vision, eye pressure, pupil function, color perception
    I'm praying earnestly. I just went through some very intense stress before this all happened. Could stress cause this kind eye movement pain?

    If your car didn’t start what would the reason be? Is it a dead battery every time? No. Out of gas? Probably not but maybe. Burned out starter? Could be. You just don’t go buy a battery or starter without checking and diagnosing the car first. It would be insane to go buy a new battery if the battery was fine and the started was blown! Doctors too often fail by being old fashioned saying “take two of these and call me in the morning” kind of thing. To determine what’s going on in your eye you MUST diagnose. Diagnosing is questionnaires , tests and other things. I won’t get complicated but a doctor needs to check for MMP9 or inflammation and there’s a simple test for that. They will also need to test the amount of lactoferrin and immunoglobulin in the tear…..this can tell a doctor if you are having an allergy or if your tears are deficient or unhealthy. There’s well studied diagnostics with huge clinical value. Some doctors refuse to use technology to diagnose and would rather just throw answers at you until something works. That’s completely wrong! Would you out a new starter in your car without checking the condition of the battery? Ask your doctor to DIAGNOSE and ask them to explain it. If they can’t or won’t FIND ANOTHER DOCTOR! Unless you like shelling out hundreds of dollars and lots of time and maybe even pain.

    Eyedrops is supposed to give instant relieve/result for blurry due to dry eye, am I right? But using it will cause blurry due to the sticky ingredient (same goes to natural tears when we cry). If we wait long enough, then our vision will be less blurry but that also means the eyedrops has become lesser/dismiss. So what's the point? Or am I the only one who get blurry vision after putting eyedrops?

    • @DrEyeGuy
      @DrEyeGuy  Před 3 lety

      Depends on the person and their tear film. Some people get immediate clear vision and better feeling eyes. Also, if you have dry patches, punctate erosions on the surface of the eyes, that can cause blurry vision. Using eye drops can help heal those dry patches, or prevent them from happening, and clear your vision.

    I think you did a great job on this video! My question is, can you use these artificial tears with contacts?

    Can I use a hot moist towel instead of a heat mask?

    • @DrEyeGuy
      @DrEyeGuy  Před 2 lety +1

      You can, it just may not be as effective. The moist towel's tend to cool off fast so you don't get the sustained heat like with a heat mask.

      I tried a towel at first and it's not enough heat at the right temp for enough time. The mask is only like $15 and lasts 6+ months. Probably the best $15 I've ever spent.

      I use a very warm face washer, it does help. I run it under a very hot tap squeeze it out,fold it and place it on my eyes, I do this several times then I massage the eye lids. It does help with nasty out breaks, or If my eyes get overly dry. Cleaning the lashes with baby shampoo also helps. Good luck every one 😉👀

    This was so helpful! I am scheduled for cataract surgery and out of the blue, I'm told I should have the Lipiflow treatment first. I'm getting the Panoptix Trifocal surgery, which is very expensive in itself and insurance doesn't cover it. Then she told me to delay the cataract surgery and get the Lipiflow treatment, which also isn't covered by insurance. So expensive. I'm retired and my husband is close to retirement so every bit counts. I told them to forego the Lipiflow and stick with the one surgery. Am I making the right decision? Will your recommendations be enough? Thanks in advance for any info you can give me. I feel like the doctor is more of a salesperson but I could be wrong.

      This is an amazing question. This is something that I fear as a doctor.... It's hard not come off as a salesperson, yet still want the best for the patient. For me, I honestly think Lipiflow can benefit everybody, so I know that it would help. But, the real question is how much of a benefit will it be to you before the surgery, and is it worth the cost. That is the tricky question. You can always have the lipiflow after the surgery. Did you doctor mention how blocked your glands were right now? Did he go over Omega 3's or warm compresses, lid massages or anything like that? Do you eyes feel dry or have any bad symptoms/signs of dry eyes? If you have no symptoms, no bad signs of dryness on the surface of your eyes, and your glands still look great but just maybe slightly reduced in function, then I would say you made the right decision on going forward with the cataract surgery. You can always have lipiflow afterwards.

      @@DrEyeGuy My doctor said they’re slightly blocked but that the lipiflow would give me better results and wanted me to delay my cataract surgery. She didn’t recommend the omegas either. I feel the massaging exercises you recommended will help. My eyes are dry. The surgery I’m getting is $3700 and not covered by insurance. Neither is the Lipiflow. Ouch!

      A late response for sure but maybe it will help someone…the Lipiflow procedure sent me into weeks of excruciating migraines. If you suffer from migraines, consider it carefully.

    I think this is an excellent video. Dry eye is extremely difficult to try to get a hold on. I have Sjogrens Syndrome. That is more than just dry eye. It seems that there is nothing that really helps in the long run cause these glands have been turned off. Is this just impossible to keep trying all these things? . I do these steps everyday yet I can’t stop or halt this condition. I will try the omega 3’s and eye drops to see if this helps.
