Maybe not but he was electric. And every true bball fan knows lefty yumpers just look prettier. He was a key piece on a team that won a chip and had a stellar ass career. You could have mentioned that he wanted Championship but I guess that kind of would have taken away from your stunted analysis not that I think you're wrong he definitely could have been better and could have gone down as possible Hall of Famer but true fans know how good he was love your channel bro this shit is dope

Hell yeah Facts !! Also Nicks sauce was ahead of its time .I've always said that VANEXCEL was the OG shake n bake scorer and 1 of craftiest playmakers that Lakers ever had. Eddie Jones was laid back the perfect swing man to compliment him with his elegant at the rim finishes and 3and D style of play.whereas kobe was dynamic whom came in as the Lakers Athletic wildcard and bridged the gap between VANEXCEL and Jones where he had the toughness, crossovers will, drive to win, clutch like Nick and twice as athletic and stronger defender and finisher above the rim then Eddie Jones. That Shaq Lakers era was tough and very intriguing to watch .

@@fatalsniper3413 I'm well aware of the Great Earl Monroe and also Pearl Washington in college who's NBA career didn't pan out .however I was saying in my original comment how VanExcel was the OG 1st to bring that crossing/ shake and bake play to the LAKERS ( no offense to Norm Nixon ,Magic, and Baylor who were excellent players in their Prime and better then nick as a player of course)before kobe got there and got all the credit for crossing and flossing with his handles. Because the younger generation only seem to remember Iverson, kobe ,or maybe Tim Hardaway (whom rejump started the shake and Bake game with VanExcel)but they hardly pay Homage to Isiah Thomas, Nate Archibald, Earl the Pearl who was way before them .

  • @dr.hugostrange9719

Also there's a lot of players who were sacrificed so that Kobe could have the room to become the Kobe he's remembered as. Van Exel, Eddie Jones, Elden Campbell, Glen Rice, and ultimately Shaq too, even though Shaq was the force that took made the Lakers into automatic perennial contenders. People forget that, they sometimes tell the story as if Kobe was good from the start.

the stunted growth comes from the fact that he could have been a superstar talent if not for his poor attitude, and I'm 45 so I remember back then. Nick was my guy but everywhere he went starting from college he always had problems with the coach or players or anything everyone knew that back then kind of like Ricky Davis but Nick's career was better in just using Davis as an example cause he could have been really good but had a shit attitude with the coach and players at some point you gotta look in the mirror, it can't be everybody that's wrong.

wit that notion is break their games down piece by piece instead of the blind D’Antoni run n gun blinders you got on. Passing and shooting goes to Nash. But to me you can coach that out of a player if you get him early enough. And yea I know Van Exel was a tough head. good video...he was onf of my fav players back then. i think that stunt #3 killed him. The Lakers were on the verge of greatness and he missed out. i was soooo pissed he got traded from the Lakers. imo, i liked the 97 & 98 Lakers more than the early 00s three peat

I always wanted to know what happened to van exel and that Lakers team. Too much talent bro gone to waste! Smh I can imagine how far he could of went if he didn’t have the attitude and if he would of stay healthy. One of the greatest PG’s in the 90’s. Great video! Could you do Eddie Jones?

So we are going to ignore the fact he's a terrible floor general? One, he tends to not set up plays for other players as he would over-dribbled and kept the ball to himself too long. Also, the fact he's not a great perimeter defender pretty much hurt his career as teams tends to take him late in the game for bigger body to disrupt guys like Steve Smith, Jason Kidd, Rod Strickland, Gary Payton, John Stockton, and Kevin Johnson. All are much bigger PG and can take him off the dribble when teams can set up screen against him. He can outdribble and get to the basketball with easy lay up with the right match up, but it would mean he kept the ball on his hands too long again. Which is also tend to be an easy when you need spacing and guys who can get wide open looks. Nick VE tends to overlook that as a point guard, which is the main reason on why he's not highly regarded in that era among the guys I mentioned that played against him in the western conference.

That George Karl story is hilarious! Two of the most unlikable personalities of the era giving each other the business.
To put into perspective how much of a knucklehead Nick could be, Karl later drafted another Cincinnati attitude issue, Dontonio Wingfield. Good luck finding a scouting report on that dude that even mentions his game. He might have been the first freshman to ever get drafted in that era, he couldn't even cut it at Cincy which took every problem child after Tark left UNLV. One of the worst graduation rates of all time.

He could do everything but shoot consistently. There were games he'd got hot but he had too many shooting slumps. Shooting 35-38 percent from 3-pt range was good for the 90s though. But his two-point shooting was often in the low 40s. That was before the majority of the league focused on shooting threes and this was before the NBA protected perimeter shooters like it does today.
