  • @ericmaclaurin8525

The nuclear threat issue is not if he would use them or not.
The question is what the options are.
    1. Call his bluff now
    2. Call his bluff later
    3. Call his bluff never.
Are we willing to accept 3 knowing that it means making Putin the leader of the entire world using the threat of nuclear war?
If 3 isn't even an option the only question is now or later.
A threat is essentially a bet that you can take something and the opponent is given the option to accept the loss without fighting or fight.
Every time you use that strategy successfully, you build a stronger reputation and becomes more committed to maintaining the illusion of power.
That means that every time you give in without fighting you make the stakes even higher.
Whatever the price is to stop Putin now, we have to pay it because it will double next time.
Even worse, letting Putin win shows everyone on the planet that a business model built on threats, violence and intimidation can't be stopped.
We have to stop backing down and if we really want to support peace we should immediately arm Ukraine with everything, call Putins bluff and accept that the price of past appeasement must be paid ASAP.

Landisberg handled himself quite well in that BBC interview. He and his fellow countryman know what will happen should russia win by military might, or win by intimidation. The collective democratic West needs to heed his sage advice considering his unique perspective.

    12:00 -
Strong, bold and true words from Jessica Berlin.
Her statement underscores that the West holding back on unified, prompt and massive aid for Ukraine, will only serve to display weakness and reticence in the face of aggression towards others, and embolden those harboring similar designs.
What is disheartening is all the naysayers who seem to not wanting to be bothered by what is happening on our doorsteps having major ramifications for our own security and regional/global stability.
That some view a massive defeat by Russia as "concerning" and even an unwanted outcome under the current circumstances, is somewhat problematic - and IMHO they need to rethink their a priori assumptions and possible consequences of their stance - trying to maintain a global status quo at all cost runs contrary to all lessons that could/should be drawn from history.
Of course there are geopolitical, economic, strategic and tactical concerns that must be properly addressed, but they should not become a noose around our necks, preventing us from doing what is right from both a moral and humanitarian viewpoint.

He was one of the first officers to swear allegiance to the United States government after the war and THE first to join the Republican Party. He sought an appointment within the Ulysses S. Grant administration... and was appointed consul of Hong Kong, across the Pacific Ocean.

Sad thing for support for Ukraine from the US in new polling since the last aid bill passed. 70% of Americans support peace talks, 57% support peace as soon as possible, even if Ukraine has to compromise ceding territory in order to get peace, and for the first time support for aid drops below the 50% mark, down to 48%, with 46% in favor of an immediate aid shutoff... so now its not only on leadership, its on citizens, and what is going to happen in elections if leaders continue support without constituent support..
