- P200a intake manifold runner code. 2011 kia sorento 2.4 liter 4 cylinder. How I replaced my intake manifold, so i could clear my code and pass emissions.
Part 2 how I made my own coupler- • Video
Great video! I watched a few times before deciding to do it myself. Kia Dealership wanted $900 + tax for the new intake manifold but I found it online from Kia Parts Direct for $600. No telling how much my local Kia Dealership would have charged on top of the material cost for LABOR!! I ordered the intake manifold, it arrived in a few days and I started removing the old one. Sure enough, the part that broke was the piece you showed at 4:00 min into your video... cheap plastic. But I just went ahead and replaced the entire unit. Engine runs smoother and sounds great now! Thanks for posting this video! Great job!!
Thanks for taking the time to make and post this video. I have a 2011 4 banger Sorento only 6 speed. That code just showed up today for the first time. I reset it but I'm sure it will be back. I hate all these plastic gear driven actuators. I have only just finished replacing the heater blend door actuator and selector. I guess here I go again. Still better than a car payment!!
Was that blend door problem causing clicking noises when you first turn the air or heat on ???
Thank you for the helpful video! I got the same P200A error code on my 2011 Sorento. I found your video and decided to give it a shot. I ordered the part from the same place after looking around myself and being unsuccessful to find it locally and finding it cheaper anywhere else online. After about 5 hrs, the intake manifold was replaced and I had no more check engine light on. I'll be getting the smog test in the next couple of days, so let's hope it passes now.
That is awesome, I am so glad it helped. Mine is still working perfectly! Thanks for the comment and I wish you the best.
Any more DIY videos would be appreciated ! Oil flushes before the oil change is one ive been wanting to look into! Thanks a bunch !
This is biggest flaw from Hyundai, Kia and any other cars that uses the same VCM Control Motor. It is small plastic part between the link that gets dry rot because of heat, then breaks into many pieces and the flap would not open or close fully and you lose the power. So everyone please just change the Part #28323-2G300 for P200A, Intake Runner Performance Bank 1 code. You do not have to spend so much for new manifold. Thanks and good luck!
a hyundai vcm control motor fit to a Kia forte?
Thanks for all your efforts and details.
Welcome hope it helped.
Kia has a Technical Service Bulletin regarding this issue. Their repair is to replace the actuator and program the ECU/DME with the latest software.
@Aqil Alajmi i have that same sound. I have a kia Optima 2008 ex. Mine gives error code P0101 but i can't find the problem yet
Mobis is a main part supplier for hyundai/Kia.
Check 4 seasons auto.
They are right out of Korea and offer great prices.
Did this change yesterday on my 2012 Kia forte coupe.... I saw a Pick-n-Pull had a wrecked version of my car picked up the part swapped it out in less than 10 minutes for $10. The issue is exactly the same as you stated where the little plastic piece was broken.
Did you just change the actuator?
@@glgross1973 just whatever that little broken plastic part was.
I went to 208,000 miles before mine gave out still runs fine if the engine light wasn't on I wouldn't be able to tell other than my cooling fan runs a little more often than it used to. And my temperature gauge seems to be a little higher. By the way it has never been garaged cleanse up beautifully and everything still works on my 2011 Kia sportage. Same with my wife's 100000 mile Optima.
That is some high mileage. Hope to get mine over 200k one of these years.
@@zx9green791 change oil.Check fluids/change filters every 4000 to 5000 miles. Don't beat it everyday.
thanks for your prompt reply .
It's actually a Hyundai/Kia part, as my 2010 Sonata has the same engine and and the same issue, where I need to buy a new intake too. The car still drives with issues, so won't be changing it until the next 2-3 months.
Would this be also for P2006? Intake manifold runner control stick closed bank 1A
You can 3d print the broken coupler with abs or polycarbonate and save hundreds of dollars.
I don't think it's a good idea, 3D printed parts are for fantasy not for real life applications, not for heat, if it fails and goes inside the intake you'll spend much more
keep running it till something else breaks....worked for me
Watched your video and used it to change my intake. Cleared the code right away. Just wondering if you've had any issues with the dreaded P300 code. Random misfire. Starts as I'm going down the highway. Usually always when I'm around 65mph. The car runs like crap. If I pull over and turn the car off it stops and runs fine again. Its a 6 speed manual 2.4L . I have checked the Purge valve and Evap canister vent valve. Both Ok. Canister seems ok too. It seems to do it more after a fill up so the Evap system was my first thought. But everything seems fine. I know a lot of Sorento owners are having this issue. Are you ?
Going to clean my MAF sensor next and look at the crank and cam sensors. Got 135K on this one . Trying for 200K but its not looking good.
I have never had that code. Mine is currently at 96k. Thanks for the comment, and please let us know how you end up fixing it.
Thank you , Thank you!
Your welcome!
the video was in good detail, well explained. i looked and i notice i did not see a Map sensor next to the part you worked on. any idea where it is?
I do not sorry.
Any tips on getting the 2 bottom bolts reattached? I tried dropping the plastic pan from bottom but there seems to be 2 clips that I can’t get to that will allow it to drop out. Also did you replace the injector o’rings and what would you recommend to use to get the injectors to slide into the manifold easier?
The last two clips are a pain but you can get them just bend the plastic down a little bit. I reuse the O-rings they looked perfect just get them a little bit lubed with a little soapy water or spit.
Thanks for your reply. Finally got the 2 bottom bolts in, torqued everything down, started putting the wiring harness attached and realized there was one wire connector that was lodged between the engine and intake manifold so got to take is apart and get that wire connector out!! Not happy!! it was the connector that is closest to the bottom manifold bolt on left side.
Sorry hear that. I could see how that happened, lots of wires and hard to see them all. Let me know how it all turns out. Good luck.
Snapshot of this video shows part 28323-2G000 and comment by Dilip Uprety states part 28323-2G300..
I am now confused as to what the real part number would be..
Hello I would like to know if when you take off the intake manifold do you have to do you computerized the gears again ???
I did not have to.
Great video. My 2011 Kia Sportage has had this check engine line issue for about 5 yrs now, and it still runs fine so I know that nothing is "stuck" open etc....I was told by a shop a long time ago that the sensors can go which gives you the codes, but everything is still working ok. If it starts to run like crap then its likely I would have to replace the intake manifold.
How do you get the inspection done?
@@jrm_music7229 only need to do inspection here if:
registering a rebuilt vehicle
transferring a used vehicle to a new owner (unless the new owner is your spouse)
registering a vehicle that was bought in or came from another province, territory or country
changing the status of a vehicle from unfit to fit
So haven’t had to do it
@clearskiesastro1028 so no problems in 5 years ?..when you initially start the vehicle , does it hesitate to turn on? Wondering if that is a symptom
@@jrm_music7229 no hesitation or any issues that i can see/hear, I just get the engine light on sometimes, and other times its doesn't light up.
Would it be too much if I can ask you for the link or business name where you purchased the new oem Kia intake manifold runner& actuator as our 2011 is needing the same part and would just like to buy the complete part like you did on this video , We d really appreciate your help in getting us the link to purchase this part and also thank you very much for your video it was very educational and learned more into diy labor pertaining to th is intake manifold runner and actuator 😮
I don't remember, I think I say the website on the video.
Really good video. Thank you. How long did it take you to do the job? I see you have some pretty decent tools there you got a nice variety of tools looks like you can get some things done in your garage. I do not have that. I have $186,000 me I got the same code that came up that you have. Trying to figure out if it's worth fixing. I'll take your opinion. Thank you
Tom
About three hours, if you don't have to pass emissions I would leave it.
If you need a new coupler, does the coupler come with the motor or intake section?
For sure comes with the full intake and pretty sure it comes with motor actuator if you buy it alone. It should show on the pics online.
Great job theta engine. Here 2.4 Motor seized on Kia Optima rebuild by Kia under warranty I haven’t run into this problem yet this will most likely be the last Kia. Did you inspect the valves for carbon
Yes I did inspect the valves. They looked really good, but this engine is port injected not direct injection.
How do you replace the ignition wire harness? For 2011 Kia Sorento 2.4
I don't know, I have not had that problem.
What is the name of the website were you found the entire intake manifold for $360 with shipping? I have PO200A, I replaced the intake gaskets with no luck. I purchased 28323 2G300 which is the superseded 2G000 but I cannot install it because it will not line up properly. Im giving up and want to just buy the entire manifold with the runner control motor but I would like to save some money like you did. Thanks for your help...
I can't remember, I'm pretty sure I say it in one of my videos. Best of luck.
@zx9green791 can you tell me what website you found your 28310-2g071 on
Hi ZX9 Green did U say that the actuator can or can not be remove/unbolted without removing the complete intake manifold ? ... Be waiting for your reply...GREAT VID !
The actuator can be removed without taking the whole intake off. Look at a comment from yesterday a guy fixed it that way and he gave all the part numbers. Good luck.
@@zx9green791 Ill try this first! Hopefully save me some time
I am trying to replce the VCM. I bought a set of tools which includes the 10mm socket. Using rhe racheting tool there is not enough clearance to put on the nut closest to the connector which has the most clearance, let alone the other two which are even more embedded. I have a 2011 Sorento 4 cylinder manual. Any pointers is greatly appreciated.
Jump the gun didn't finish watching the video thanks great information
Сенк фор информейшон. Спасибо за информацию из Туркмении))))
How much does that part usually cost cuz the same code came up on my dash and I need a new one?
I bought mine for $340 On-line.
@@Jason-sz5zv Got a link you’d like to share?
Where did you buy the manifold
I don't remember.
I am haveing this problem. I replaced the little cylinder and the light is still on. Took it to tripple AAA and they said the part with the little cylinder is bad. They charge 1000 and something to put a new one.
You paid them that???
How you reset the runner censoring take ?
After I installed the new part it cleared it's self.
I just got that code on my 2016 optima 2.4 and it’s going in the shop tomorrow don’t know what is really not working with the runner
Hi, did you find out what was wrong when this code came up? What did you have to have repaired?
Danielle LeSueur it was the actuator it got stuck. If You put the pedal all the way down and there’s no power then it’s most likely the actuator. If you bought the car from kia with a warranty still active then it should be cheap if not 600$ repair its not that bad
Danielle LeSueur as long as the light isn’t flashing it should be ok solid check engine light is better that flashing check engine light hope this helps
Please post engine size age of car and mileage. So we can see if it's an age or mileage thing. Maybe its irrelevant.
I don't understand how they say the check engine light doesn't go out unless you buy the manifold with the actuator on it?? Are they just wanting more money?
The guy that tried to clear it for me was super helpful and tried multiple times. The computer was detecting that something was off I guess.
Can you see the top of the valves when it is off?
Yes you can see what they call the back of the valves.
But you can't see all of them.
But you can't see all of them.
I have that same car where do I get the parts from ? Can you help me please
Just search Google and look for the best deal. There is also a second video that might help.
ZX9 Green do I have to get the whole manifold or can I just buy the piece for the code ? I don’t know what I’m looking for . Where did u buy yours from ?
@@charismadurand9560 you should just need to replace the VCM actuator. Read the other comments farther down and another guy put the part number and what he did.

My vcm did the same thing at 98k
The antifreeze hose does'nt have to come off.
Hi Zx. At minute 13:59. Whatbis that hose function actually?
Not 100 percent sure but i think it's just a vent hose.
P200a
P0106
P0170
I'm getting these on a Kia Sorento 2011
Does all these come on intake manifold?
Same with my car. It totally put the engine to a grind. I bought a used engine thinking that my old engine has knocked. To my greatest surprise the new engine did the same thing.
Now, I dont know if the new or old engine are knocked/dead. Or if getting a new intake manifold will solve all my problems.
What is the state of your car? Is it fixed?
@@destinyanyaiwe65 yes it's fixed. The fix was a new intake manifold.
It was broken inside.
What's the name of that part
Vcm control motor.
Feedback - Just got a recall on this. Kia thinks they can upgrade the ECM to fix the P200A code. "Upgrade event name 162. XM 2.4L P200A DTC logic improvement" Intake manifold runner performance. What a joke. You can't fix mechanical breaks with software. They are recalling for the knock sensor too. Which is related to my misfire issue. Once again ECM upgrade to fix crank knock issues related to bad de-burr of the engine at mfg. leading to blocked oil galleys and crank bearing failure. Knock sensor upgrade would probably make my issue worse since its kicking in limp mode already (misfire - two cylinder cut-back) which on s 6 speed doesn't slow me down. Next - Removal of the knock sensor and ignore the idiots at KIA !!
hi
do you remove fuel fuse before removing the injector
Disconnect the car battery
This is what happens when you use cheap plastic parts in your engine, good job Kia...
6سلندر ؟؟؟؟
think if u just clean manifold and new intake manifold motor would be enough u cant trust dealerships!
Who designs plastic parts to go on the engine? Stupid.......Anyways Thanks for the awesome video.
Plastic parts work fine on class 8 diesel trucks for decades now without any problems car use should be just fine as long as it's engineered/manufactured correctly.
Is it possible for you to give me the size( Outer Diameter & height of that coupler which is broken.Since you have the broken coupler with you.( & u also made the metal coupler). I am having the same issue on 2011 hyundai santa fe 2.4L. I have checked everything. the only problem is the broken coupler.Dimension might helps me a lot & save lots of Money(At least $ 400.00)Tire kingdom quote me $260.00 for the vcma motor & around $250.00.00 labor). My name is shailesh. Thanks
I don't know where it is. I would buy the vcm motor and change it your self, follow the youtube video. Or pull your old one out and measure you coupler. Remember the one i made did not keep the check engine light off.
If you have the unit out (17:20). Measure the inside diameter (remove the 3 bolts on motor). Then measure the drive on the motor (3:40 from other video).
I used the PCV plumper pipe.
ATG gave wonderful tips, use the Hot Glue Gun thing.
Shoot the Glue Gun on the Motor's Drive.
Wait for it to cold down.
Full out the cool Jig mold.
Now, you can cut & sand for that perfect fit.
Then you this mold and make measurement to make a better one.
If you can do it, then it's around $275.00 for the motor.
ATG suggests to also make sure you have all those flappers fully cleaned & greased before putting in the new motor.
eu só o victor mecanico estou com este problém
Could I pay you to fabricate me a clip like you made for yourself?
I Probably wouldn't feel comfortable doing that. I couldn't guarantee it would work. I did it with a similar size piece of scrap metal. And a $15.00 dremel from harbor freight. Or just buy the Acuator and not the whole intake.
Can you please tell me the measures of the coupler??? Mine is lost and I want to make it from a metal bushing.
I made a second video for you guys who are trying to make your own coupler. Good luck! czcams.com/video/g5I6gzT-IIw/video.html
