I was 12 when The Big Country hit theaters. I saw it in the brand new 3000 seat Lewis & Clark theater near Seattle-Tacoma International airport. The screen was 65 feet wide and featured four track surround sound. Great rendition of a great movie score! Bravo to the conductor and muscians!
Boy that had to be an experience The Big Country is the greatest western film of all time and should have won Best Picture of 1958 instead of that overrated Gigi!!!!!
Yep, Gigi is pretty bad although I know almost all the songs! Burl Ives in Big Country is terrific. Greg Peck is great. The scene in that canyon with the big shootout amazing? Chuck Connors is so bad and does a fantastic job. The trick riding when the cowboys are harassing Peck. Everything is excellent. Total agreement that it deserved winning!
LordMSh This may be the best Western theme ever written. Seeing it played by an orchestra gives the theme more life than just the notes. I have viewed this many times since finding the excellent rendition on CZcams. I'm sorry I wasn't in the audience. I'd still be standing and applauding. Congratulations to everyone seated or standing for recreating this masterpiece.
Jerome Maross would be very happy and proud of these young musicians. The Big Country was, and still is, a great film. Jerome Maross’ score was equally as big as the film because the main title seemed to go on forever. Bravo! Fantastic performance!❤️😎👍

I agree, it's a great film - I don't think it was nominated for best film. But "Gigi" is not over rated, it's a great film too. and when you look at the films that were nominated, "Gigi" was the best pick. But,, think of it,, this was the year that "Vertigo" was in the Oscar offering and it didn't even make the list. now that is the film that should have won best picture and best director too, and best music score.

This brings tears to my eyes. I have always loved this opening theme, and to see kids performing it is thrilling.

Great memories..i was 8..saw at the Wakefield theater in the bronx ny.....we both agree it was a classic..peace

Mr. Moross had a wonderful musical gift. This score is simply a home run. A slower opening can be done well, this version proves it.

You're right. There are two "a's' in "anal", though.
