Planting a FOREST of Dahlias!
Vložit
- čas přidán 15. 08. 2024
- I think @jacquesinthegarden and I went a little too far this time - we planted HUNDREDS of dahlias all over the garden! Was this a silly move or a stroke of genius?

Why do I think Laura is watching in horror. 😂😮 😂
Forgive me Laura
😂
or Dave Gillam lollll
Lol! I heard her mention your channel on a recent video. I would die if she and Aaron did an epic style intro. 😂😂
😂😊
Oh my! I laughed so much! The Garden Answer reference and the attempt of describing the colors of the potted dalias, so funny!
As somebody that worked at a seed company and spent early spring cutting and packing dahlia tubers for customers this brought back a lot of memories.
Glad to provide the opportunity to reminisce!
Kevin, you and Jacques are just a great comedy duo😂 Some of the of the dahlias looks so pretty can't wait till they pop up.
Bwah hah hah - the shout out to Laura from Garden Answer! 🤣
Your content is as humorous as it is educational...and I'm here for it! Thanks as always guys!
I love that you called her out!! Hahaha! Laura and Aaron have mentioned you too at times. What a great community. ♥️ 🌸
As an avid GA watcher I love the shout out! ❤❤ you boys are hilarious
I rewatched the Spooky Spicy AMA last night. Responding to the second question Kevin said, "I really want to be more intentional with design." And here y'all are 5 months later just drilling holes, plopping in dahlias, and recording it so you can go back to see which is which. 😂😂😂
LOLLLL
i dont know why but them just walking on screen laughing is the funniest intro. right next to Kevin turning to the camera like "oh! didn't see you there!" Sillyness
I enjoy watching you guys, so funny but very informative and enjoyable. Thanks for all the work you guys do in your videos.
Ahhh that was epic fun!
It cracks me up how you have to taste everything Kevin 🤣
And Jacques, that cactus move had me spitting out my breakfast 😂
U guys have got to invite Laura and Aaron to the homestead! And if u visit her home I'm sure they could teach u guys a lot about flowers planting 🙂
I could see Laura mapping out his garden lol. She is very visual and loves structure, love that about her.
You're going to have so many flowers!
Although the idea of a maze maze was great, I feel all those flowers will add so much aesthetic value to your garden.
The two of you are gold. Thank you, Kevin, for introducing us to Jaques!
Lol. I love how all my favorite people on youtube mention each other. ex Garden Answer. ❤❤❤
honestly that rose arch is the most stunning thing I have ever seen in a garden.
Dahlia Daddies and their Dirty Dahlia Tricks....count me in!
My favorite flowers to grow! I love the big cactus flowered style, the little pompons, and the "black foliage varieties. I like to plant them in bottomless pots, sunk into the ground, which makes it easy to remove them to overwinter in the greenhouse. They will usually overwinter fine in the ground here but it takes them a while to get going in Spring. Keeping them in the warm greenhouse, they are ready to go in Spring.
Starting every video together with a nice hearty chuckle gets me every time 😆
if you haven't spent hours watching epic homesteading and laura from garden answer, are you even on gardening youtube?
"See mom, I don't drop stuff!" You could just hear the years of history behind that lol
Fresh tubers, depending on soil/environment, can be celery tasting to a peppery flavor. The more aged /stored, they have a sweeter taste
Lol, Laura will have a fit seeing your random hole digging and planting method. Although she'll appreciate the drill thingy shoutout. But no stakes? My guess is that they will all grow so thick that you won't be able to get through! Maybe at least be prepared to stake around the edge and use them to string in those on the outside.
I"ll stake them when they come up!
@@epichomesteading Be sure to share updates, very curious how that will turn out!
@@epichomesteadingyou may want to stake them when you plant them next year, else you risk impaling them.
I also mosey into my garden chuckling but somehow it has a different effect when you do it alone 😅
I will never get tired of the "laughing" intro, it always makes me laugh along with you guys. So silly! And your videos are always so informative - great stuff!
You guys are so fun! I love the variety of dahlias available. Only downside for me is earwigs just LOVE dahlias to bits and I hate those things. Always have to be sure to give them a really, really good shake if I'm cutting flowers to bring inside.
Super excited to see your Dahlia Forest. I grew a few last year on a whim and I’m hooked. Trying to find space to squeeze a few more in.
We came up chaotic in the streets of San Diego 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Also, Maize maze is a favorite title!
Lol @ the shoutout at Laura 😂
Is that nasturtium in the front raised bed garden only one plant? 😮
Also I’ve been wondering this for a while, but where did you get that circular arbor that the climbing rose is on? Looking for a nice arbor to put up in my front yard over a walkway that will run from the sidewalk to the front doorstep.
Yep it's just one!
XD I hope Laura appreciates the call out, cuz it made me laugh way too hard
Can't wait to see how your dahlias grow and even though I'm not planning on adding to my own garden, I just love watching your videos, having my Sunday morning coffee...you two crack me up!
Can't wait to see the homestead in full bloom! Also, love the new greenhouse! Definite garden goals for me someday!
You guys together are such fun. I always enjoy your videos. If only they were more often, like one video daily
Dahlias are probably my favorite flower, I can't wait to see them all bloom!
When you showed the tubers, I was quoting Laura from @GardenAnswers in my mind; "the dahlia will grow, when the tuber has bulb, neck and eye" :D
Dahlia daddies do-be-do 💚💚💚
I planted a bunch of dahlias from Costco one year. Omg. So many flowers. I was harvesting for 5-6 months. Have so many flowers go my neighbors. Had to shake them after harvesting because the earwigs loved them.
My great-grandparents ran a dahlia farm in Wisconsin and every year they would have a party where people could pick flowers for free as a way to sell the bulbs. They would take orders and then ship the bulbs for planting the following year. Not sure how much money they made on the whole endeavor as they switched to growing strawberries and other things eventually, but there's a cool article from the local paper about it.
Me: **turns TV on**
Kevin: "ANOTHER DAY ANOTHER DAHLIA."
Me: **exasperated sigh, turns TV off**
xD
LOLLLL
I loved the fact that you gave a shout out to Laura of Garden Answer! My two You Tube worlds just collided!!!
that triple flip was cleannn🤣🤣
I love that shout out to Laura.. I was in awe when she started using that tool so it was so much fun when I saw Jacques pull it out.. also I just learned Dahlias were edible :) Are all parts edible? Also, what is your favorite tomato to grow, as well as eat, and have you ever had/grown Spoons?
Flowers and tubers have a recorded history of being eaten.
I've always loved your arch. I've got one that likewise covers the entrance to my garden. It's approx twenty foot span and the arch is as high as fourteen feet. I have it covered with passion fruit vine now for two years. Almost completely covered.
That pink purple one looks like chrysanthemum not dahlia. .it has a very distinctive smell
😍 I’m so jealous of Jacque’s ice cream bean tree!! Can’t wait to see how that does!
Laura will be laughing .... you guys are hilarious...
So many dahlia videos are quite serious. Loved this fun one!
I am keeping it simple when it comes to flowers. Zinnia, borage, Mexican Sunflower, Giant Sunflower , morning glory and milkweed.....well maybe not that simple after all.
That's exactly what I'm growing!
PLEASE be careful when planting Icecream bean trees. I'm in zone b in Florida. I have been trying to grow beans out for years and hand pollination doesn't work. They also regrow readily from roots even if you think you cut them well seriously, beware. It's a huge investment of time that may not work out in the end because you don't have native pollinators😊
You two are so cute. I never comment on youtube videos...but I just had to drop some love here. You guys had me laughing out loud! Great work!
I was so excited to see this video! I just planted some tubers a couple weeks ago and they are sprouting!!! My first time growing them, so I get to grow them with you guys. I am fostering some puppies so fingers crossed they don't dig them up 😅😒
I live in Rio Rancho NM and this is a must grow every year. The biggest and most beautiful flower ever. The best cut flowers ever.
Chaos can be fun! Little worried that you did not look at variable heights of each type in the maze🤔 I hope you don’t get crown gall planting so many imported tubers, but at least they are isolated to one area. It is the worst, yucky plant disease. I’m growing about 25 this year. Almost gave up because they need a lot of H2O and we might have water restrictions this summer in my SoCal area. Hoping for the best with all this extra rain. 🌼
lol you and Laura are literally my fav gardening CZcamsrs!
I love the chaotic energy.
You had me at "Doozy".
Y’all are a hilarious duo!! Thanks for the many laughs after a hard day and all the dahlia trivia! I grew dahlias for the first time last year and I’ll never not have them growing in my garden.
"If there's something you wanna grow... that needs a little greenhouse...
Jacque: "Well... I'll let you in on a little secret.... I already did..." 😂😂😂
You just need a Hartley! 🤣
Love that you mentioned Laura!
This video was a vibe that I needed today, thanks guys.
That walk-in laughing gets me everytime.
That stare after the cactus turn 😂
We started a tray of Dahlia seeds and bought 4 (four) tubers because we are garden rich but $ poor. 😂
Kevin: "OK how about this... I'm your simple farm hand and you're the master." Now that's what I call some spicy role play!!!
Jacques: "I make the holes and you plant them."
The 8:18 purple/pink one is a cresanthemum.
I loved the pause of confusion with the pink dahlias, actually took me a second to remember you're colorblind 😂
Dude!! Rose petal jam!! you'd better get picking!! Warm toast w melted butter, cold sweet rose jam on top. You wont regret it. 👍🏻👍🏻😱
I'm excited to see what this looks like when they all grow.
One of my all time favourites, Dahlias. So, total stroke of genius putting them everywhere!
It would be awesome if Laura showed up in your garden one day :D
Can’t wait to see the blooms AND colour! You have to make frozen loquat margaritas!! We made them last year. Just take out the seeds and freeze the loquats. Instead of adding ice to the margarita, add the frozen loquats and blend. You can also make loquat chicken and serve it over rice. Google it.
Once you pulled out the auger, I knew Laura was coming up lol. She really influenced me when getting mine 😂
Dahlia's are such pretty flowers! Definitely want to start growing them in my garden! Cannot wait to see the end result of yours! 😍🙌🏻🌸
No tickling the rootballs? You guys make a great team!!!! Stunning work gentleman....
I LOVE dahlias and ranunculus.
❤Dahlia Doozy! Love it! Great job, it's going to look gorgeous!❤❤
I love your videos together, dashing delightful dahlia duo .
I think all rose petals are edible if they are organic.rose petal jams, homemade turkish delight ,
Yum!
Yes! I always get so excited when u guys make a video. Love u guys keep up the great content 👏
Ooh! Mamay sapote?! Have you tried that? It really tastes just like the baked sweet potatoes with cinnamon and sugar I had as a kid. Best ever. Thank you for your videos!
Dahlias will be amazing! Curious to see how you support them in a few months.
Yes are you gonna stake each? Like you would a tomato?
Starting dahlia from seed is fun too vs tubers. They bloom 1st year and sometimes you never know what your going to get outside a beautiful flower.
Dahlia daddy Dozie😅 don't forget to build supports now vs later. The sooner the better learned that last year. The dinner plate dahlias need lots support. My dinner plate plants got over 4ft one season. They are difficult to steak up once in bloom.
alas i live in 6b, so mine have to come up every fall. i grow most of mine in pots to make it easier. i grow mostly single flower and close to that for pollinators, but a few o fthe fancies always get me...
i bought pulp fiction too this year!
That's awesome!
y'all are hilarious!!! absolutely loved this randomness...can not wait to see the results of your labor!!!
Bulbs and tubers are really easy plants and they come back every year.
I love Calendula.
Cut the artichoke!! boiled 8\10 minutes, very goood Italian extra virgin oil, salt and pepper, cut in four 💪🤙 Great guys as always!!!
🙈🙈🙈 I can’t look lol I love the carefree, ad hoc planting method and enthusiasm, but oh lord, I can’t look! 😂
Kumquat green tea, kumquat + young coconut juice, kumquat + sugarcane juice. Kumquat is my favorite citrus.
I'm growing my dahlias from seed this year so it's gonna be a total surprise what colours I get. Can't wait to see how your patch is going to look like when they are all in bloom
I ordered 5 new dahlias this year, and also planted some from seed. I’m excited to see what the seed ones look like.
I didn’t expect to love this vid as much as I did
Thank you for the artistic inspiration! I'm loving all of your channels even if seem to call them all Epic Gardening. I'm a newb gardener with a row of grow buckets and you've been really helpful. I just came over to steal the link to this video so I can share with my video for tomorrow... Keep growin'
Oh that’s gonna look nice when you guys are done love Daniels but keep it on through the winter is a problem would like to know how to deal with the loss of so many
I can't wait to see the results! It will be awesome 🥰
😄💚👨🏻🌾👨🏻🌾 Guys, support those beauties. They get top heavy. T- stakes and twine.
Did Bobca, don't know if I'm spelling that right, come back? I saw the kitty on the video 2:44
I too was wondering this
Dahlias are my absolute favorite I’m so stoked y’all are doing this video!!!!!
I can't wait to see the blooms!
Perfect timing, just received my order of 48 yesterday ❤
Nothing is more delightful than smelling the softest rose on the vine 🥰
Omg! This is hilarious. I just brought 14 new Dahlia tubers to add to my growing collection. Then I see you posted this video 🤣
