Im from Texas my little girl was born 8/27 this year and she got the “eye goop” (what we called it lol) even though I don’t have an STD she’s 7weeks today and is happy and healthy. She’s my first born and I had no clue about the shots and the eye goop. I went in completely blind but I had an amazing labor and birth. I love your videos. Found you on tik tok while I was pregnant and it gave me some ease of mind and helped me along the way

7 weeks! So cute. 3 of 4 of my kiddos got it as well, the last one our site stopped doing it routinely as there is an erythromycin shortage! All babies happy and healthy :)

I live in Missouri and it required by law that babies receive the ointment. If a parent refuses they are to contact the Department of Social Services, Children's Division. Kinda messed up, if you ask me.

I’m in Hawaii and was told I could decline it I think. I allowed it even though I did not have any STI’s. Reason being I didn’t realize that STI’s were basically the only thing that would cause problems in the eyes. If I knew that I would’ve declined. Why not test for an STI close to birth and if they don’t have any don’t give the eye goop? Seems pretty simple to me. We really need to watch the antibiotic resistance.

I'm in Kansas in the middle of the USA. When my first was born in 2020, I was allowed to opt out, but I had to speak up. In my pre-admission appointment with my second child this month, they asked me if I want it and I said no.

It's mandatory here in New Mexico. With my last baby, I had done some research and declined it, but the nurse we had was not as honest as you and threatened that my baby could go blind if I refused. I did not have the strength at that moment to fight her on it and gave in. I regret not standing up for my baby in that moment. Now I am pregnant with my 7th. All of my other had this, but I feel strongly about refusing this time. Not sure how that will play out.

After watching this I kinda want to opt out when I give birth and just monitor baby for symptoms. But I just looked up the laws in my state, and it looks like it’s mandatory, and if the parents refuse it they get reported. 😵‍💫
