The TV show "River Monsters" did an episode on this species of catfish. Very interesting.
Another TV show ended up catching three of them, but unlike most shows they did not release it. Instead they used them to feed an entire South American village because in that particular culture, with the scarcity of food, there is no such thing as "catch & release". Fed something like 50-55 people. Was double interesting because it showed the cleaning and preparation of the food.

Top water fishing is just awesome. Couple of weeks ago I bought my first two or three lures for it, didn't catch something yet, but I'm hooked 😊 had one attack from a decent pike but he missed it, never felt so much adrenaline while fishing. 👍

the legendary Wels catfish showing why it's considered an apex predator.. and they do get much larger. sadly they were introduced in many places where they're non-native and they devastate native species. tremendous sport but something of an eco-quandary.

@@rav186 I have them sometimes. It feels like you're gonna die foreal. Scariest thing I've ever experienced. U could never understand that they're even serious unless you've had one. But I think ppl just like to use it as a figure of speech.

Coming from somewhere where the water temperature in our rivers are around 10C/50F in the summer I can't think I would enjoy my feet in the water all day, dry suit or not.
I would be more worried about the wels catfish managing to tangle you in the line then dragging you under

Don't know if a u-boat float tube would be up for land such an absolute monster of a catfish that was that behemoth. There is absolutely nothing more enjoyable when it comes to fishing then being out on a lake in a float tube at dusk as the fish start rising to snatch up bugs from the surface with my fly pole in hand and the right dry fly on the line. It's truly art in motion watching, waiting to see that water rise as a fish comes up and catching it requires perfect timing. Im no poet so I can't put it into perfect words, but it's just beautiful, absolutely fantastic...

I used to tube fish a LOT like this but never hooked an actual whale like this while in one. That would be one insane ride!
