- With update 3.2, Battlefield silently enabled the ability to read config files. With this, we've got a config file that's been tested to boost FPS in every case imaginable. This is a no brainer.

Hi gang in the past I've used SILKS config file in the past and like now you don't need the inbuilt counter it's resources hungry. So in the config it disables it . If have Nvidia card just press LEFT ALT + R and there you have it. And same to unable it.. magic stuff once again my old friend....
Bro this is the best the games looked and run for me! I actually had a ton of fun last night and legit got some feels like back in BF2/3/4 days with the adrenalin BF intense moments and it was running buttery smooth with no stupid 2042 issues. This is shaping up to be a big comeback. I like the darker/shaders waaaay better now too, looks higher fidelity, more gritty and much shaper/cleaner and nothing blown out or as arcadie. THANKS MAN
1080ti, 7700k, 16gb ram, 4k and running solid around 65-85 np (still have a 60hz monitor so nbd).

Glad to see my frames go from unplayable to somewhat manageable
This video popped up in my recommendations and I'm glad it did. My FPS went from averaging 80 to over 110 on GTX 1080. Game feels little bit darker, but it's fine. Thanks, man!
@MiezMiez__ i7 5820k OC’d to 4.3Ghz 1.3V it’s old but it gets the job done.
If you want to not have a darker look on your game but still use the rest of the file, open it with notepad and remove the line “WorldRender.LightTileCsPathEnable 0”
Your fps gain will suffer slightly but it will still be an overall improvement.

i wish i had those frames :( i7-6700k overclocked to 4.6ghz with 1.395v + gtx 1080 ti also oc'd and i struggle past 60fps with stuttering dropping frames down to 30fps at times, even with this config file, gpu util is around 5-10% cpu 100% even with limiting to 2 cores / 4 threads :( it seems to be only this game i have issues running :(
Thanks dude! I was laughing when all of the sudden the FPS counter appeared in-game after the update. I totally forgot I made a config file and it's been in the BF root folder for over a year.

thanks man, i have no idea if there is an updated version but this config helped me get 20+ avg frame boost.. I have a 5800x3D with a 3070TI went from 120 or so to 140-150 on medium settings so it was decent boost!
the boost worked for me, but shaders looked a bit dark for my taste. will keep the file for competitive days👍

This some black magic typa shit.. went from about 40-60fps to 80-120, no stutters. Legend!
People complain about 100% CPU usage making their CPU run hot, but if your CPU is running 90C at 100%, then maybe your cooling system is just shit
That was my issue. I upgraded to a 3 fan liquid cooling and no issues since.
Literally. People pair 200W CPUs with a single 120mm AIO they bought for 100$ that gets outperformed by any decent air cooler and wonder why their CPU throttles.

Imo if it's running within manufacturers spec then it's fine. A lot of cpus are actually completely fine at 90 degrees and if there is a problem they will thermal throttle themselves.

hey silk, Ive done this and am getting far better FPS but the only issue is its not just the menu that looks cursed, alot of the silvers (like elevators etc) arent rendering and are just coming up as black, same as some greys in the game, Is there anything in my settings or the config file i can change to get them to render or something? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
Lighttilecspathenable is the command causing it. You can remove it from the cfg but it's getting you 10+ frames

Thanks, I almost managed to solve completely the "100% CPU" usage and "yellow rectangles" constantly showing up in 128 conquest mode. Insane that I could play fine before 3.0.0 and now, without your cfg file and limiting threads, it's unplayable.
What number have you entered after Thread.maxprocessorcount??

Is something wrong with the updated cfg? Draw fps is not working anymore.
I have done this with the config file, but it does not change my core usage in any way with the added lines, no matter what numbers I put down.

I have the game in EA play and cant find the location for it in Program files x86? The regular bf2042 folder has cache, crashdump, screenshot, and settings?
Why is the weapons and specialist all dark with no textures ? is that supposed to be like that?
somehow made me get a bit less fps than before while also looking worse. On 3090 + 7700x + 6000mhz cl30 ddr5, was getting 220-250 fps before and with the cfg hardly touching 230. I think this works better for lower end hardware. My recommended settings for higher end pc are 1440p, medium preset, dlss balanced
while it seems the cfg file is working but I'm getting no performance boost, and the thread settings won't apply :( on a 9600k 6c/6t and a gtx 1080, still getting the same chopping 70-80fps. anyone got a clue how to get the thread commands to work? or get a performance boost at that

Anyone facing problems with gpu usage? I have rtx 2060 and i7 9750h, game would run at 60% usage (which is bad) and now after season 4 it runs at 40% usage (which is worse)

What are the differences between the shared file cfg and the one you display on screen in this video? Which is the more up to date version or better version?

wouldn't halving the amount of used cpu threads hurt performance or am I mis understanding?
I can see it lowering the recorded amount of cpu used as the most monitoring software counts the whole cpu package, if a game is heavily single threaded it might show 20% utilisation but you are still heavily cpu bottlenecked because that one thread is maxed out. Even when I am at 70-80% utilisation on a 5600x there are still occasional frame drops caused by the cpu being maxed out, and that's capped at 120fps

This config makes the weapon camos look terrible do you know which line effects this in the config? Also my fps counter isn't working how do I enable the fps counter? where can I find a list of all the commands I can use in the config file?
is one that says "light" , put it back to 1
why do i have insane input lag. i deleted IGo64 or wtv its called and turned off ingame overlay on EA and i still get InputLag.

Looks like there's a typo in line 10 - "PostProcess.DOFMehtod 0" should be "PostProcess.DOFMethod 0". Thanks for the config!

i can live with my performance but im getting insane time nudge, typically its 10-18ms depending on what gamemode and how big fights are but it constantly jumps to 300-500ms causing my game to go into slow motion and inputs being delayed by 1-2 FULL seconds
after a week of looking there are no fixes and nobody, not even the devs, know what causes it with some not even understanding the issue when its explained to them
on a 10900k and rtx 3080 the highest average fps on all the maps i can achieve is 90, but with constant dips, stutters, hitches, and straight up freezes it brings the average down to like 50
Got a 5600x , 3070 & 32gb of ram. Game has always ran like shit. Part of the reason I don’t play. Smooth as butter now. THANK YOU!
after trying your config I noticed it got worse for me, more stuttering, more crashes and maybe a 5% fps increase, other cfg's worked better for stability for some reason
same. only noticed like 3% decrease in gpu usage

BF 2042 is running completely crazy on my new motherboard
the cpu is running very high
and i found out when i am in the spawn menu, waiting to spawn to a squad colleageue my cpu is running from 70 celcius up to 95
then when i am spawned it goes back to 70 or 80 celsius
my incident is not normal.
changed from z690 carbon wifi to z790 dark hero
when i was playing with the z690 board i never had that problem
or is it beacaue i did not install windows new on the new mainboard?
i cant figure it out

It does give a boost I just did not like the way it made my characters look. Especially in the menus. Im already getting solid frames so for me I'd rather the game look better

So where exactly do I paste it? When I open the 2042 folder it looks way different to your. When I open it, it just has 4 things in it: a cache folder, a crashdump folder, a screenshot folder and a settings folder. Even if I open them, nothing looks anything like how it does on your pc. Where do I put it?

If you have the game on steam the game folder is within the steam folder. Just google the location.

Doesn't work for me, still 100% CPU usage and barely noticeable fps increase. Play ultrawide with a 3080ti and an i9. Despite switched off raytracing, I only get 60-50 fps.

On a i5-10400 6-core 12-thread CPU the game is using 0 job threads and 12(!!!) CPU cores

the game has been running extremely poorly for a while now. I used to get 100-140 fps on 128 conquest, now I'm getting around 70-80 on the same settings. CPU utilization almost maxed out all the time.
Hello again silk and anybody else that can help me.. i done this a few months ago and it worked great but recently i had to do a fresh install of windows and games etc, this has worked again but the only issue is at the top centre of the screen it is saying cpu and my fps. Is there a way to remove this as i already use Geforce for my fps at the top left
To what percentage did your fps increase
@sasukereflexes so I was getting around 100/110 normally but with the configuration file, I got a boost from 10% to 25% and sometimes more. I noticed it depended on the map, amount of players and mode etc but it is a massive improvement
I think most of what people are experiencing is placebo. I'm personally doubting the CPU commands, it seems to be hard-coded, and some like the DOF are for sure not working. DOF can be disabled with the same command while in game, but only manually, it doesn't work with a command in a .cfg. In your footage, you can see the blur behind Falck. Now type the same command in the console, and it'll go. One of the few commands that work are the LighTile one, and it's the most obvious visually, hence why I think a lot of people think other commands are active too. Not calling you out, just my two cents.
I was already maxing out my 144hz monitor but wanted better 0.1% lows. This definitely improved both 1% and 0.1% around 5-10 fps, even though the chart in the video didn't show a difference with 0.1% lows.
Must have been an astronomical gameplay increase

I still have DirectX Problems with an 3080 newest software on everything and manually activating DX12 in settingfiles. Game is just trash can't even finish 1 game without it crashing.

You can just remove the line from the cfg file and restart game. Beware because this command gives you 10+ fps and is very very worthwhile imo

You could just have the content of the config file as text instead of downloading files... but yeah most of these are pretty normal.

Remove the fps offset X and Y commands. I'll change that when I'm home it must only work on 1440p

this also happened when i applied the config from another streamer video.
im not sure exactly which setting it is though... and hopefully DICE will see this and consider fixing these problems long term. also thanks for the file and tips/information, this is a fantastic simple fix for so many people!

I'll be keeping it enabled, personally, for visibility
