    Mat - I have always appreciated your reviews from your previous life and good to see the CarWow library increasing. Great work! Just ordered my second 2008 - going from 115hp Feline diesel to a 130hp GT petrol as tested. Got a great deal and my annual mileage has dropped significantly hence switch to petrol! Hope the torque curve of the petrol is fairly flat but you seemed to have a bit of fun driving with this engine. Cornering etc - cars with grip control come with all year mud and snow tyres so sports car road holding cannot be expected. Car choice is irrational but the car suits my needs - 5 doors, reasonable capacity for the tip, good looks in the right colour and low running costs. The handbrake is fine but agree with you about glove box however it looks as if the door bins are better than the original. You didn't mention the pathetic reversing light - most versions come with rear sensors but I hope the camera (not mentioned in your review) helps! Keep up the good work

    Agreed about the interior, it is quite a nice place to be. But you mentioned the clutch, gears etc. I think you didn't emphasize enough just how bad they are in this car. I drove this for a couple of weeks on car hire a while back and the manual stick shift was horrible, the travel between gears was almost as long as my journey from one end of the country to the other. The clutch seemed to have been designed by Arnold Schwarzenegger (or at least my left calf looked like Arnie's leg after a couple hours driving it was so hard to depress.
    Lastly at motorway speeds this thing doesn't handle crosswinds very well. Overall for me it was exhausting to drive.
    On the plus side, the traction control (2wd) was better than some AWD cars I've driven. Seriously, I drove the 2008 last winter and couldn't believe I was driving a 2wd car. Not only in mushy leaves, mud etc. but driving up extremely steep inclines.

    An engine that spins to 4'000 revolutions per second? That would put an F1 engine to a shame ;)
    By the way, I thought that an "M" in "RPM" stands for "Minute" as... Revolutions Per Minute...

    We have 6 of these on fleet all 1.6d Allure models. They have been 100% reliable with a couple of them doing high mileage. Like all current Peugeots the screen takes a bit of getting used to and if you sit about an inch higher than usual the dials/steering wheel issue soon disappears. Without the sunroof you get LED strip lights through the roof. We refer to them as dogging lights as we can't find any other purpose for them. Customers do like the 2008 but the 500x is a better drive and is more popular.

    Why do cars these days do not come with a spare wheel? Seriously though, I think it's a huge problem not to have a spare wheel because who knows your tyre could burst anytime...

    • @carwow
      @carwow  Před 8 lety +2

      They're heavy - but almost all cars will have a tyre re-inflation kit full of gunk that seals punctures. It's messy though. Some manufacturers will let you pay extra to have a spare wheel instead!

      Futuristic yet not well thought through. I mean, windows that don't go all the way down?? A small glovebox tah can't fit the manual? Germans won't play tricks on you like that, French can't be trusted with this.

    • @DanielDaniel-kh6bv
      @DanielDaniel-kh6bv Před 8 lety

      +Firemarioflower yes. i mean, look at the exterior. they are not playing safe while designing the exterior. but the downside not all people like their design language. for me this peugeot is meh

      Daniel Daniel I used to love Peugeot's design. But now they try to hard to be German, they're not quite there yet.
      The 308 is much influenced by the VW Golf.

    I recently picked up a 43k mike 63 plate in same colour as review, but mine is the top spec feline model with a nicer non black interior and panoramic roof etc and mine is the 1.6 Petrol, never drove one before not even the 208 as I came from a 1.4hdi 307 and because it’s a 16v engine engine is had the typical sluggish low down power of yiu try to push beyond normal driving, but once it’s on the move and you at 50mph and put your foot down it really pulls, great on motorways, certainly better than the 1.6 110hp Petrol in the 307 and 2002 Renault scenic, okay it’s range is 422 miles to a tank so a big difference to 700 miles in the 1.4hdi and about 70 miles out from the older scenic(missus has one) at full tank, but it’s so much better to drive it’s irrelevant plus that’s down to the design of the car as being suv like and a 107 I had prior only managed 425 to a tank, I have seen 37-42mpg on my runs, but I have a little bit of a heavy foot, but I certainly wouldn’t pass up the petrol just because a reviewer prefers a diesel car designed with much more torque for better pulling..... also she seemed to have forgotten one feature assuming it’s across all the range, mine has a dial near the gear stick that has a mud/snow/sand option as well as normal meaning it will adjust the grip to match for each scenario, not had to test it yet, but the brand new fwd Range Rover evogue doesn’t even have anything like that and that’s a 40k car purposed for these things.. certainly as practical as my 307 was which I needed, so this 2008 is a great car.
