When you are a Northerner, you know exactly what it took for Fiona Hill to get where she got. You can sense the depth of her integrity and how little that is valued in the London political bubble.
Her accent alone is a breath of fresh air as opposed to posh.

A marvelous woman. A credit to Britain and The United States. (AND she had bigger balls than most of her male counterparts) Vindman and Hill, hero and heroine. They knew the consequences, but refused to bend. They spoke the truth and spoke it well.
I have lived a long time, born in the USA. I have yet to meet a native of my country with the kind of dignity and humility that radiates from Fiona Hill. She is a credit to the UK and we here in the US have been lucky to have her, and to benefit from her keen perception and expertise. Truly a class act. And brilliant.

I have great Respect for Fiona Hill in her courage to stand up and tell Truth of what she has observed!!!. She is a role model to many young women who want to be successful in their career pursuits and being treated as an equal. I am especially impressed that she does not give so much attention to how things look externally on a woman but what they have to say. That is transformative!

She has a huge advantage. A really good education in a European country. Trumps nightmare. A woman. Well educated. Very capable of critical thinking.
The U.S. is moving backward. I went to public schools and graduated from Yale without any debt. Other of my middle-class classmates went to Harvard and to Stanford. We occasionally bussed tables, but it was not oppressive, and our public school education left us perfectly well-prepared for higher education at elite universities and graduate schools. This was Fiona Hill's experience, too.
But Republicans and the right conducted a propaganda war to win the public policy debate, which THEY HAVE DONE. The result has been a more poorly educated United States with less accessibility to college, less social mobility, and less opportunity for outstanding scholars like Fiona Hill.
I'm embarrassed for the GOP that I once was part of. You are so ✅️ right. The GOP voters used to be intelligent and well educated.

Ms. Hill's assessment of Trump treating his expert advisors as mere "staff" just like he did in all his businesses, where he devalues them to the point of "cleaning staff" was so spot on and insightful. That shows just how smart this lady truly is. And her telling of how advisors had to come up with novel ways of trying to influence him by going on talk shows, since Trump seeing a person "on TV" somehow gave greater weight in his mind than if that same advisor was sitting in front of him in the oval office saying the same things. This is also how Fox News hosts were able to "play" Trump during his entire presidency by influencing him to change policy based on watching their cable TV shows. It's sickening and absurd to know this man once occupied the oval office. Truly the darkest years of modern American history by far.
It's even more frightening to think the former guy has a real chance to sit in the White House again, after all the crimes he & his GOP associats commited.

Just finished her book. Her story is remarkable and a salutary lesson on the importance of educational and social opportunity. Sadly, both of which have been badly eroded in recent decades.
She received her bachelors and masters degrees in the UK where the cost of higher education makes it within reach.
I just requested Fiona Hill's book from my local library (several "holds" ahead of me).

There were no tuition fees for students from the UK + a grant generous enough to actually live on (carefully) + easy to find summer work. House of Commons library now says average student owes over $50K, higher than the US.
Fiona Hill is well informed, observant, as well thinks & speaks clearly how that those informations & observations translates in the real world.
She also operates with honesty and integrity. I can't help but view her as a hero. That's rather sad as she only did what a decent person should do. That appears to be in short supply. So many others in positions like hers, where they should have stood up in a timely fashion, waited for a book deal instead.

Dr Hill is an excellent ambassador for the English education system and the Scottish tertiary level. Certainly, postgrad studies in an Ivy League university widened her horizons, but the lady surely represents the best of the encouragement in British schools of critical thinking.

The reason I consider such a practice to be important in child development is that it encourages young minds to be self disciplined. One monitors one's own views on a subject, is prepared to be wrong and ready to self-correct. Most importantly, it demands independent study, the development of ways to effectively communicate one's views, and to tackle problems in a non-self centred way. If you think such a phrase is meaningless, then its alternative title is Socratic reasoning. I suggest you might care to look at the findings of Scott Lilienfield on the subject, which are based on John Dewey's original ideas.
When, as in better schools in my day, classical philosophy, rhetoric, and the creative arts were each important elements in the curriculum, multiple choice exams didn't exist, and a fine balance was maintained between pure academics, moral/cultural/creative subjects, and physical activity in schools, this holistic approach to learning and child development encouraged multi-faceted young people.

You seriously went through eight years of George Bush Junior without being ashamed? You realize the guy is a massive war criminal, and that even Obama overthrew Libya. Fiona led a masterclass with her testimony, max scores from me across the board, which was all that more memorable because of her accent and now legendary gravitas.
I remember her testimony at the impeachment inquiry. I was hanging on her every word. Especially when she said that her focus was diplomacy while Rudy was on a personal errand from POTUS.
Fiona Hill is so impressive. My goodness, I could imagine her in No. 10 and doing a stellar job. Though I daresay she is too smart to get involved in politics.

Thank goodness for civil servants like Fiona. Unfortunately, far fewer are drawn to service these days especially after the backlash over the last few years.

Her testimony was an important piece of the historical record of the Trump years and his part of the Putin-Ukraine mess. It actually becomes more compelling with time, not a waste because the impeachment failed.
It made a great difference to see her in front of Congress answering questions regarding something that was not clear because of all those that were attempting to frame what became the attempt to overthrow our democracy. Thanks to those that have the real integrity to actually tell the truth in public. Thanks to all those that will not be bullied.

She is of course brilliant. I was awed when I saw her on C-SPAN during the first impeachment. The fact that the Republicans could not find it in their heart of hearts to impeach Trump after her testimony, showed a profound depth of dishonesty.

FH is one of a very few people I listen to at every opportunity. Her insight and education never cease to impress me. She's the caliber of human I get starstruck by. Vindman is another and I enjoy listening to Julia Ioffe.
I'm currently appreciating"There is Nothing for You Here" for its clarity and honesty while untangling complex issues. She has a wonderful gift of connecting her personal stories with the larger currents of international concern. Her comparisons between Putin and Trump are substantial.

Excellent interview of an amazing woman.
Fiona Hill's comments on Putin make sense to me. The West is playing a game of chess with Putin; but Putin is playing a game of high-stakes poker. The West needs to take cues from the game theory.
In game theory we assume people are rational actors, and many are saying that the losses Putin is incurring in this war show him to be irrational.
@@mstar7520 Psychological aspects are crucial in variants of the game theory.
For example, a saber-rattling is a form of testing the opposition. When Putin amassed his troops around Ukraine's border, Putin was testing the West on how far it would go to protect Ukraine. A proper response would have been a display of equal force (e.g., putting NATO troops in Ukraine). This most likely would have prevented the war.
Check out the Pope's web site where he calls out the US and NATO for starting the war in Ukraine it is really eye opening.
@@toddgrady7119 The issue is about the NATO's expansion. There is a strong case that the NATO and the US were reckless.
The ultimate blame falls on Russia, however. One can't get shoot someone and argue that he had to defend himself against that someone -IF that someone didn't commit any violence. Really, what is the excuse for killing civilians and children?
Also, if you examine Putin's actions since he came to power - it looks like containing the NATO was just an excuse (perhaps even to himself) to actualize his his ambition. The bottom line is that he wanted Ukraine regardless of the NAO.

Let’s be clear about something: Russia was going to try to swallow up Ukraine no matter what. It’s a problem that goes all the way back to the 90’s, well before Bush opened the possibility for Ukraine.
I think Ms. Hill is one brilliant person who needs to be taken very seriously. She knows her stuff!

Thanks for sharing this talk with Fiona Hill. I love how straightforward and practical she is. I hope she sticks around and continues to spread her particular version of honest diplomacy.
I look to the day when intelligent, educated, experienced Fiona will move into the drivers seat (political office) from just an advisory role. How she keeps a clear view of everything going on in the 'world game' (like Monopoly!) is hard to fathom! I'd vote for her on a heartbeat with what I know about her.
That would be great. I'd contribute to her campaign.
I doubt she'd ever run. Usually principled people who work in civil service or non political positions in the government stay far away from politics. She's amazing & I hope her mind is once again helping our country against the authoritarian/fascist influences that are threatening American democracy.

Fiona Hill’s assessment of Trump is highly accurate and shows that Trump is not fit to be President of a church social committee let alone a country.
She sure got upset when Trump ask zelensky to open up an investigation into the Biden family activities in Ukraine. It's because she was involved in it. Corruption at the highest levels

I said this from the very beginning that Trump treated the Government like his own personal business and as the CEO he didn't have to listen to anyone but himself. Even had he listened to others he took credit for it. Never met a man who is smarter than anyone else in any field than himself. A man who has lived in an ivory tower his whole life going from one party to another and never even succeeding at any business endeavor he went after except a reality show that had followers that are basically still following him. This is not the credentials for a President, especially one who follows and admires men in the world who are oppressing their countries and people. Dictators. We do not need a dictator in the USA. If the republicans have their way we will become a third world country. Think before you vote in November.

I am infatuated with Ms. Hill. Her direct civility is disarmingly charming. She is always in command without being condescending. I wish she would do public services messages about civility...And be my alexa voice.
Thank you. That was a delightful interview. I am a Rust Belt woman who was born to a poor family, and I made my way to a successful career in Manhattan. I identify with much of what Fiona Hill had to say about the difficulties of overcoming class and sexism.
"My mother's a midwife" that is to say focused, competent at an essential moment in human existence when everybody else is stressed, maybe not sure what to do next.

Ms Hill is the ideal administrative advisor, she's a quick thinking, nonpartisan expert if she speaks about her subject, remaining strictly within her actual field of expertise and her personal experience as she does in this interview. Too many, almost entirely men, seem to believe any expertise, no matter how narrow or shallow, authorizes them to opine on all things as if knowledgeable while speaking rot. The former guy is an obvious example as were the people he surrounded himself with.
The highlight of this interview for me was how expotus' delusions of grandeur and his habit of reducing women to mere secretaries providing Ms Hill the ability to camouflage herself from his recognition by changing her dress. As if she wore her forest camouflage or snow like she changed costumes. I dislike listening to undrafted talks because most people have the annoying speech habit of stalling by interjecting "um", " you know", or "right?". This interchange was so quick, insightful, and fun compared to the majority. Now I want to read her autobiography.

I think she meant that everyone has the ability to tell the truth should they choose to do so. The fact that many have not done so - for whatever reason - is why we've ended up where we are now.

Fiona Hill is such an impressive and relatable person. Her husband should be very grateful. I am grateful as an American for her valuable service to our country.
The clothing issue is a two way street as far as women are concerned. Men wear suits, women wear all different kinds of clothing in a professional setting. Ultimately what should be important is the content, not the form, but this is the western world today, particularly the US. It's shameful that trump and his like remain at large.
Based on her testimony alone Trump should be indicted. "PERIOD"!

The thought of what could have happened if Agent Orange was re-elected is horrifying.
It is an absolutely terrifying thought. I bet Putin had relied on that win and so decided to shoot on with his plans as he believed it was a small inconvenience.
She is right- it was extremely important to show that someone was there to represent the safeguards of foreign policy we have in place amongst the political corruption at the highest levels.
The corruption at the highest levels took place in the Biden crime family. They milked Ukraine like a cow with Fiona Hill being the Middleman. Putin never made a move when Trump was president
Ms Hill’s insights into the mind of Putin are right on point. When dealing with an autocrat there is only one target.
