  • In this video I explain how to develop a powerful, efficient and well shaped swing on rings - which should give you a good foundation for moving onto basic swinging skills. As I explain at the start, starting to swing is one of the first things people do on rings but it may take many years to perfect, my swings could definitely still to higher!

Are you using a false grip? It doesn't look like it, but I thought gymnasts always used false grips on rings

False grip can have it's advantages for certain strength elements but we generally use a neutral grip for swinging :)

@@learngymnasticsonline5341 but how do you change it then when you're on mid air, if after the sing let's say you need to do an iron cross. Or once you go neutral grip you can't go back to false?

@@alfonsoparrado3112 Yes it is possible to shift your wrist into a false grip whilst transitioning into other positions but it's easier for some skills than others, you kind of figure it out with practice. It's worth bearing in mind though that using a false grip for crosses etc. is a deduction in a gymnastics competition so it's not actually a desireable technique to develop and best to learn as many things as possible without a false grip for this reason!
