The true peak limiter Andy had mentioned at the end, I'm currently designing an analog soft clipper i can send one for you guys to try out this with help create Odd & Even Harmonics with a few other features. If you wish to speak more or see the demo or hear we can do that.

UAD Oxford Limiter & Fabfilter Pro-L both have true-peak functions, I believe. Also, Youlean loudness meter is a good free LUFS meter. Thanks for your podcast!!!

true peak limiting and ad clipping both will create harmonics , to your question YES Leave half db headroom in the master the big ISP Jump happens because bit reduction , if you are picky to the tenth of db do the testing by yourself , convert to wav 16bit , mp3 128 , aac 192 , use flux PAS With true metering and you'll see for yourself the effect of that tiny headroom needed for the particular track.
