Brilliant interview

I was playing Sunset Strip with my band at that time...Whiskey, Troubadour...was at the Rainbow a LOT, the booth in front of the fireplace or the Zep booth or upstairs in the loft. Played FM Station a LOT...met Lenny Wolf from Kingdom Come there and wrote lyrics for two of his albums on Columbia. Played the Country Club, too. It was a magical time, like he said. So happy for Jeffrey!

Tony did a lp with a French band Trust ''Savage'' in '82 and that's a great sounding lp too...drummer on that one is Nicko McBrain soon to join Iron Maiden..the drums and guitars sound huge

wow I used that Neve at Larabee in LA.....lots ah history on that one for sure. Favorite split...I think that's the same console in studio B at Capitol also.

I was in the Trashville music scene from 1980 to 1990. I earned a meager living doing inconsistent session work, also toured and recorded several albums with a well known band. Got tired of being poor, got out by going to work for a computer company and never looked back. I've personally known a few guys who were tremendously successful, many who seemed to do alright, and many many many more who never got anywhere and in their 60's and 70's still struggle to get $30 gigs in crappy bands. To make it here, one needs serious chops and just as importantly, one needs personality, charisma, persistence, resilience, patience, tech smarts, networking, marketing skill, a day job and lots of luck. I wish the best to all.

Your Neve 8078A History: I purchased the Neve 8078A console at your studio from Arthur Simons, Singapore. Mid 1980s. Arthur was the regional Neve sales distributor for that area of the world at the time. The Neve 8078A was his personal console. Upon purchase, I shipped the Neve 8078A to my personal studio, Smoketree Ranch Studios, Chatsworth CA. The console was extensively modified for a period of two years before it was commissioned at Smoketree, replacing my MCI 528 console. The Neve was the first console to have the facility-function of a “Solo Clear" function. A "one button tap" that would clear all ongoing solos across all channels at the same time. Rupert Neve himself came to Smoketree to check out the modifications (pre-Focusrite era). he took extensive notes of the mods that I did to which many were incorporated in future Focusrite boards. The control room monitor section of the Neve was gutted, and a new matrix was built to be able to handle multiple (32) simultaneous combinations of control room sources. Nobody had ever done this before on any console ever manufactured. It was perfect for motion picture and television work besides records. In 1990 I installed the board at Andora Studios in Hollywood CA (Studio B) where it was commissioned for 10 years... with George Massenburg moving Fader automation, dual Studer multi-tracks and Genelec Monitors. Sold Andora to Larabee in 2000... After two years, Larrabee sold the studio to Dave Way... The Neve 8078A was used extensively by Tom Petty while commissioned at Smoketree. You’re right, it was also used to mix Madonna's "Like A Prayer", and hundreds of other album projects… Not to mention major film and television, as in Hill Street Blues, Magnum PI, Rockford files, The Greatest American Hero, and LA Law. Check out "Toy Matinee"… An album to which anyone serious about recording should listen to. The Toy Matinee album was mixed on your Neve while commissioned at Smoketree. A very musical console, no other is like it, the modifications took it to a new level. Congratulations.
