    So great, well worth the subscribe! I have a Xdrive 340i I use as my car to hammer thru the mountains to ski so hard driving in possible cold scenarios. I really want the LSD to help on launches and predictable traction for our culdesac but was worried it could be too squirrely if it’s snowing in the mtns.

    I'm surprised how decent the traction control is in the wet, makes it a pretty easy car to drive for someone that's inexperienced. I hate cars that have intrusive traction or stability control, as I find it makes the car less predictable, particularly if you have the skills and are likely to correct it yourself.

    Good stuff Mark. BMW traction control is the best I’ve ever come across in that it’s doing a lot of stuff but is fairly seemless. The higher the sport setting, the more obtrusive it becomes as you’ve shown in sport plus, that jarring motion caused by the brakes! In the Mustang, it’s next to useless! In normal mode It allows crazy angles of rotation before anything happens, actually I think you could easily lose it! What it does seem to prevent is then trying to use the throttle to keep it going. Not dared try that with things switched off. That said, because of the more linear power delivery and LSD, it’s so controllable and a lot of fun! LSD makes a huge difference for this sort of driving.

    • @MarkCup70
      @MarkCup70  Před 4 lety +2

      Expanding on my 'I don't like that' point...I had it, control, but I needed power to bring it back out of the slide...but the car just killed the throttle hence me almost coming to a complete stop. It allows small angles though without interfering too much though.

    Informative review. However I disagree that you have to drive with DSC off in order to experience the value of an LSD. I had one fitted on my M140i from factory in July. In the dry I floor it at every opportunity and get all the power down in full confidence. Traction, even in the wet, is leaps and bounds above any FWD and non-LSD RWD car I have owned, including an F30 320d. Last month I also fitted an underbody brace and Birds B1 Suspension to replace my adaptive suspension. What a world of a difference. The car now handles better, drives with more emotion, is more planted and more comfortable over very bad roads. It feels finished :)

    • @MarkCup70
      @MarkCup70  Před 4 lety

    Minor correction, sport+ turns DSC off, but leaves traction control on. This means it should give you a bit more control over the amount of grip as you try to put more power down but it won't help you if you start fish tailing around much at all

    • @MarkCup70
      @MarkCup70  Před 4 lety +2

      A minor correction to your minor correction, sport+ is just the same as Traction off (not DSC fully off). Both the traction control and DSC are relaxed but still active. It will wheelspin, up to a point, and the same with getting it sliding, it allows it, up to a point before it jumps in and stops the fun. The DSC in sport+ is most definitely still on, I can feel it braking the wheels to stop excess yaw.

    • @sAmiZZle82
      @sAmiZZle82 Před 4 lety +1

      @@MarkCup70 Quoting verbatim from my 2018 M140i driver's guide, "Sport+ is displayed in the instrument cluster. The DSC OFF indicator lamp is illuminated: Dynamic Traction Control DTC is activated"... Did a bit of googling based on what you have experienced and found this definition of DTC, which apparently is from BMWs website, "Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) allows more wheel slip and thus a more dynamic driving style with higher wheel traction and DSC controlling stability. A small amount of spin on the drive wheels improves traction when pulling off from a standstill in snow or on loose terrain." It goes on to explain that, "DTC can be activated by pressing a button and this allows more slip and reduces the DSC’s curbing of the engine. The result: better traction and more thrust." So, there it is; it's just a derivative of DSC rather than a different feature altogether, like the driver's guide would have had me believe!

    I feel like they should have added more lock to the m sport diff. The derlex (I think that's what it's called) and the queife (no idea how to spell this shit) LSDs make the mod more worth it, cuz they lock up more. The m sport just doesn't lock up enough, not to say it doesn't lock up, cuz it def makes a pretty big difference but I don't think it's a very drifty diff just kinda a tease. The m cars have fully locking diffs, wish the m sport was at least like 50% lock on acceleration, just to give it more of an m car feel

    • @Niko-xz5lk
      @Niko-xz5lk Před 8 měsíci

      It's actually the other way around. The Quaife, Wavetrac and Blackline do not lock at all. Those are all open LSDs. They work via a torque biasing system which switches the power to the opposite wheel when losing traction. The M Performance differential locks to around 30%, which is of course much more aggressive than than the quaife or other ATB differential. The M Performance differential provides enough slip to allow it to be used both for tack and street use, but it's absolutely better for the track than any of the ATB diffs like Quaife for track use, as it still works with one wheel off the ground. If the diff was more than 30% lock it makes more clunky for everyday use. Many track drivers favour 40% lock, so 30 is absolutely fine for both road and track use.

      @@TeacherToolkitDemo Agreed it's more capable, with twice the driven wheels it's always going to be...but with just RWD it's not a hazard at all. I drive DSC fully off, always, and rattle along damp b-roads at pace just fine...of course if I give it a bootfull of throttle with steering lock on it's going to break traction and become a handfull...but it only happens if I do that. Which I don't. 👍
