Mudroom Renovation Part 13 - Consider it Handled

  • In this video, I assembled and installed an entire section of IKEA cabinets. Since I have experience with how their cabinets work, I modified the design to be able to have floor to ceiling cabinets in order to maximize storage in the space. When all the finish work is completed, these will look built in and blend well with the kitchen cabinets. There are still cabinets to install on the opposite wall in order to complete the entire mudroom cabinet installation. Enjoy!

    Buying hinges that open at 110 or 130 degree is my standard for every door, except if they open against a wall. Hinges that open only at 90 degree is a solution for future destroying the door because you accidentally bump on an open door.

    Sure the cabinets went up about a year ago, but we are just now seeing it. So you may have seen it by now, but that too void makes a perfect place to store beach umbrellas. Or something long and semi frequently used, that may be inconvenient to store somewhere else.
    Looks great.

      I've got a similar gap between my fridge and wall, and I use it to store a tall step ladder for easy access to the highest cabinet shelves. Perfect little space.

    If those face frames have a reveal, you can get a large piece of vaneer to cover that whole end, including the gap behind the top cabinets. Otherwise, these cabinets look amazing.

      @BenTardif  Před rokem +2

      The large end will be covered with a panel to make it looks finished. That’ll come after all the cabinets are installed

    Do yourself a favor and for future buy a Franklin Sensors FS710PRO ProSensor 710+ Professional Stud Finder with 13-Sensors I know 50$ looks like a bunch but it is a huge lifesaver when finding studs!!

    Great video! Thanks. Are you sure you are supposed to nail through the side into the back panel? I don't see the purpose since the back panel is trapped inside the dados/grooves. Are the nails for a fixed shelf or divider?

    • @BenTardif
      @BenTardif  Před rokem +1

      The reason to nail in the back panel is to make it square and prevent the cabinet from wobbling

    Why didn’t you make those top shelf your self or are you planning to? Since you losing that extra space.

    Cabinets look nice, but why no baseboards?

    • @terrytavelli8254
      @terrytavelli8254 Před rokem

      Yes, toe-kicks would prevent you from fetching dog toys all the time.

    • @BenTardif

      Toe kicks will come at the very end. I’ll do all of them at the same time

      @@BenTardif Ah no, I actually mean the baseboards that go between the walls and the floors. Is there not still a raw edge back there?

    Had to use coins to adjust doors - wedge one dollar coins in between and its all gonna be straight and even

    What design program do you use to help determine the layout?

    • @BenTardif
      @BenTardif  Před rokem +2

      IKEA has a design program on their website to design layouts with their cabinet options
