Check out my video on the just-announced ATEM Mini Pro, which now includes multiview built in! czcams.com/video/j9iJhe_A2uI/video.html
As a teacher with a limited budget I just started looking at the ATEM mini as a solution. This is actually a great video to show the options and considerations. Thanks!
I’m not a pro, I’m just a single guy helping my wife on her CZcams productions and live, this trick helped me a lot. Thanks for sharing!!!
its June 23rd 2021 and after reviewing all the "experts" tutoring (three days in total) about this Atem Mini "Saour" that does not come with Multiview set up, I have found you and really I cant be more than happy finally watching such helpful video. I really enjoyed how clever yet brilliant you are Aaron. You have definitely saved me throwing this device while no knowing what the heck was wrong that I could not see my 4 cameras. I thought it was due I am turning too old already for this kind of cybernetic challenge but really you have giving me hope. Thank you very much from Miami, Florida. Best of luck!
Thank you for sharing this. It is very helpful for me and my team. We didnt think of that multiview device till we watch this video. Gonna share our setup soon!
Really informative regarding the requirements for a solution, some wise advice and fun to watch. Well done!
Good stuff man😀 Love the honest retrospection! 😀
This is really cool. One needs to keep in mind as we watch this that:
a) This was referring to the ORIGINAL ATEM Mini. The ATEM Mini Pro DOES have MultiView, though with it you are stuck trying to decide whether you want to send "Program" or "Multiview" out the HDMI Out port; doing something like this video shows WOULD allow you to send a PROGRAM out to whatever output you desired, AND still have a Multiview display for camera selection.
b) While in this video he has a lot of stuff packed onto his desk, you need to keep in mind that in any actual production environment, your cameras are PROBABLY not going to be as close to you as this, so the "clutter" wouldn't be an issue.
c) It's a great option to keep in mind.
I admire your honesty
Common sense things, down to earth and easy to understand, love your approach, thanks
i liked the touch with the USB power. Couple other solutions had plug in power and that turned this whole package into a crazy mess...well even more of a mess.
I appreciate this video. I didn't even know that you could buy an inexpensive gadget to do multiview... now I do!
Tip. Double stick or Velcro the gear to the back side of monitor or under desktop.Helps organize and hide the bundle. Great Video!
It ended up way better than I was expecting
Thank you very much!!! you made my life easy!!!!
Only You missed out is the link for buying 5 volt usb to mutiviewer power supply
. Please add so that we can easily add to cart, becaue we dont know the berrel jack size
I like your final conclusion ;)
It's a great setup for the right purpose/use. I think in the end my concern would be the cable run on an HDMI cable is very limited. I went with the Blackmagic Bidirectional converters for under $100 a piece so I can run SDI cables and have a few hundred feet rather than be stuck around 15-25 feet away from the camera.
Yeah, again this is not targeted at the professional broadcast crowd, so there's no SDI inputs on it like the ATEM TVS has. That's another reason I use the TVS at gigs where I'm gonna have 150 foot cable runs, cause I can use just one HDMI-SDI converter at the camera and bring the SDI right into the switcher
Even though this is a bit messy, it does have one advantage over the ATEM Studio HD, and you kind of showed it in your video - the ATEM mini allows your cameras to be outputting different formats to each other, whereas with the more expensive set-up, you have to make sure all your cameras match with their signal format.
Which sucks big time! Love the Mini.
Very nice answer to getting multi view.
My new favourite CZcamsr.
I love your later suggestions to just get and ATEM mini pro. Got me laughing)) I Shute hope to get one someday though . Great work . Thank you
Good to know it works!
Good stuff! Thx for sharing. Especially your resume i enjoyed a lot and i agree.
you are a genius. love your videos.
Great vid as always, Aaron! We're working with 4 Hollyland video transmitters each of which has an extra HDMI output. So minus one device per channel :) Nice monitor too!
Nice that's awesome! That's a great way to solve it too!
Hi Pavel. Is latency an issue when working with the wireless transmitters? Which Hollyland model and cameras do you use?
@@locoqueno Hi, Pablo! We use Hollylands 300 and 400 (two of each), two Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Cameras 4K, Olympus OMD EM1 mk II and a Gopro 7 black.
So far the latency has not been an issue, as the audio goes from the Zoom H5 either through one of the BMPCC4Ks, then there is no issue at all as both video and audio both come at the same time. Or the audio goes from the Zoom H5 to the Line In of the ATEM mini. But then we adjust the latency in the vMix (the software we use to broadcast)
@@pavel.suchkov Can you please explain how you did this "Or the audio goes from the Zoom H5 to the Line In of the ATEM mini. But then we adjust the latency in the vMix"..... I am using OBS for live events and the audio comes straight from the sound console into the atem mini and I have been looking for a way to sync up the small latency of the Hollyland Mars 300 with the audio. Can you explain how you did this. I cannot pass audio straight to the camera.
Super super helpful!
Thanks for showing us.
Great job!
Thanks very helpful
that's an excellent review
That's great! Thank you
I appreciate the video and this guys out the box thinking, I have been in a lot of gigs and know this is required....But the pro is 500 something now, just save for that simple and clean set up
Believe it or not, I made this before the Pro was announced! I definitely do not recommend doing this 😂
@@aaronpk Bro, i realized that after the post...dont fault me lol
I simply use 4 LED monitors with pass throughs BUT if I needed to extend to further multiview, then your set up would be fine - I'd velcro the setup to the back of the monitor in question
it work thank you ..I modified little bit put all in in one ABS case bag with 3mm panel plywood on the top ...problem HDMI out from atem not working well video flickering at the 5 inch feelworld monitor,...hdmi out from multviewer work great....
Very cool. Thank you.
Very nice!!!
Its nice work sir. Thanx
Thank you very much!
Because of my budget and the fact that i have already built a rig using the web presenter and my Atomos ninja2 in a gator case, I will do this setup when i purchase my Atem mini and the mess will be hidden in the case, i like the idea of recording my mix in prores. I'll do a video when I'm actually setting it up, thanks for sharing Aaron 👍
Please just get the mini pro ;). It’ll save you a lot of headaches. Because you now have 5 extra devices that need power as well, a lot of extra cables and a lot of stuff that can break. Having just one point of contact for warranty stuff is so worth the small extra.
Thanks for this! I’ve been trying to think of a more elegant solution than having 3 or 4 separate monitors for each input.. I imagine you could build or craft an enclosure for the splitter / multi view element that would tidy up those cords a bit. Still cheaper than buying the more expensive switcher.
a bit cheaper, but definitely more limiting still. IMO the more expensive one is worth the price especially since it gives you an extra AUX output that you can use for things like feeding a projector in the room
@@aaronpk ooooor.....use another splitter on the output PGM :D
wouldn't be surprised if BM introduce a new version with multiview out at NAB 2020 or a single unit multiview with loops on each inputs
Funny. Thanks for sharing!
Great video as always👌👌.would you make video, what software, hardware you need to have replay options?
Dude I'm glad you did this video- Pro or not.. spending $250 compare to $1000 I don't mind the wires Lol.... Great video I'm about about the place my order on the parts now.... The only thing that I would do different which gonna cost me a pretty penny is wireless video transmitter I need 3 might be getting the Accsoon Cineeye ($250X3). Call it the day Thanks again
Bravo on this build. 351.92 is amazon cart total incld. the lcd monitor being 169 which should not be counted . THaNKYOU
I have the mini with 3 static cameras and the roaming canon 70d with the mars 300 and a 10 inch monitor with hdmi in and out. Works good.
Good job making the multiview as clean as possible BUT as you said and i think the same Atem Mini is not design to require multiview, for me to much messy
UPDATE! Blackmagic just announced a new product: the ATEM Mini Pro, which includes MULTIVIEW!! Pre-order it now: aaronpk.com/minipro
Literally came here to say the same comment! It looks so incredibly perfect now. What an amazing little device.
@@BBROPHOTO well it annoys me than you cannot output hdmi and multiview at the same time. That would have been sooo good.
Aaron thank you, this content is really helpful. Can you make a short video or tell me how to set up your BMD video assist to record your program? I tried but the video look like it was recorded in slow motion. Any suggestion? Thanks.
I bought one of these and I put it back in the box. Multiview is an absolute must in any situation.. It's too bad because i love the build quality of this device. I set this thing aside and purchased the Atomos Shogun 7 Switching recorder. Much simpler.
Too bad! At least it will go to someone who will appreciate it!
@@aaronpk Yeah, I think it will fit nicely for a lot of people. The fact that it takes any kind of input is unheard of at that price.
Based on the4 other comments, I must be the only guy who didn't get this to work. I've tried 2 different multi view, the one listed with 2 different sets of 1-2 converters. Can't get multi view to work to save my soul. I guess I'll return everything and wait in the even longer line up for the Pro model. Great job on the video.
Thanks for the video. This helps I have the pro line but as client turn to use the phone with better image today we need a product to setup at a non-broadcast rate. This helps a lot.
PS if that mess of wires is to much for you you can send it over I will not mind having it. :-)
Thanks I was considering using a Blackmagic Design MultiView 4 HD with Blackmagic Design Micro Converter BiDirectional SDI/HDMI/PSU given I have some Blackmagic Design Micro Converter HDMI to SDI already in my arsenal.
Thanks, without the monitor it seems like it’s less than a $100 solution which isn’t bad. But Amazon has the pro for 600-700 usually. Thanks for the video tho I didn’t realize that there was a multivitamin splitter. 👍🏾
I like the solution an plan to use it as soon as I get my Atem mini, I have a similar setup in a gator case using the Web presenter and an Atomos Ninja 2 the web presenter has a pass thru on each input so I send those to two 7" monitors I already own, the flexibility of the Atem mini as opposed to the Television studio is that the inputs don't have to be perfectly matched so for me the mess is not an issue it will all be hidden in the rack case and the Atem mini will be on my table with just the cabling running neatly back into the case and my camera cables fed into the splitters from the back of the case and I still will come in under the price of the Atem Television Studio ( I found a lower cost 15" screen and multiviewer )
Please provide the details on your lower cost 15” monitor etc. Thanks
Thanks. I've tried the same. Used Orei splitters. Multiviewer sees all cameras as 1080p and works perfectly. If I use 1m cables from splitter to Mini - Atem Mini shows black screen. Shorter cables from splitter to mini work ok. Multiviewer doesn't care about cable length.
At the very least, it was a fun experience to watch.
wow this is a great workaround! but with that cost plus the hassle, I just want to sell my mini and jump to mini pro. that is, if I come to a point that I could not live without multiview
Hi. Thx for informative video. A good DIY person would look for a way to make it all fit in a box with the monitor (or a pelican-like case) and have all the plugs fitted in the side. After I buy my ATEM mini I’ll see about adding this setup. Thx.
YES! It's a good idea, just put all that mess in a shoe box or so, and the ATEM on top. So simple.
Great stuff! Can you post a link to the USB to Barrel cable please?
I'm so cheap that I exactly priced this set-up but in the end decided that the cost/hassle wasn't worth it and decided I could live without multiview.
This is great. Maybe in future you really need multiview and this video is showing how for cheap buck, you have a solution.
Also tape work is a great thing
Good solution Aaron!
But, 3-4 months ago people was complaining about the lack of multiview in Mini.
Now, after the cheapest solution, they don’t need it 😂😂😂
Easy.
Hey Aaron, question - can you multiview on atem mini pro via hdmi out, and get Your image from single cameras via usb to a streaming software?
Hi. Does Atem mini effects quality of incoming signal passing thru?
Could I use multi viewer with v mix and do my switching in there? Thanks.
I would have loved if it had had a preview out like my old toaster. I know it can be set up for a preview out but that defeats the video assist.
I love the mini , but the I’m a one man live show so I don’t have a control room guy. This IS brilliant, I watched several of your videos (you’re kinda a bad ass) and if you would like to do a collab CZcams vid, I would be up for it. I need to hack a remote to the ATEM that when I step on a flr mat it switches to a garage laser cutter shot. Again one-man show.
Have you looked into the switcher studio app?
Great job on the project. Certainly not for the faint of heart!
Could you please share what four camera's you were simultaneously using?
That was the Lumix GX9, Sony a6400, Sony RX100 VII and Sony RX0 II
Awesome ....thank you. I need another camera, but would like to save some money. Any recommendations on a cheaper camera with clean HDMI out?
Depends on a lot of things! I'm a fan of the cheap Canon camcorders like the Vixia RF800 ($200 amzn.to/2RYz1XY) but that's definitely not going to be the quality of a DSLR/mirrorless. It'll do fine in a well-lit space though. The problem with stepping up to the DSLR/mirrorless options is you also want a good lens which adds another chunk of cost to it.
Exactly what I needed! Thank you for a great CZcams channel and your suggestions!
For sure this is the best option to solve the multiview issue. Thanks!! Question!! I have the same BMD recorder. But not sure why, I don't know wish setting use. The codec on the recorder just look like if the is a resolution issue. Looks in slow motion and my camera is set to ProRes 1080 HQ. On the monitor look good and normal but the recording look bad. Any suggestion? Than you!!
Thanks for your great video!
Can I ask you a question?
I have two DSLRs, and I want to do a live CZcams Multicam. What do I need, on a tight budget, to do my live? I have already installed the OBS application, but hardware-wise, is the ATEM Mini enough as a device between my DSLR and my computer or do I need another device?
This should work, the ATEM mini shows as a single webcam on your computer so in the OBS system you would drop down to it as an input.
If I wouldn't want to switch angles and have them streamed all at the same time I skip the splitters and go directly from the multiviewer into the Atem mini, right?
Yeah you could do that! That little multi viewer device will output a video signal you can input into the ATEM Mini if you want to actually stream multiple video feeds on the screen at the same time
@@aaronpk great, that's all I need! Thanks ;)
What size is the DC barrel jack for the multiviewer? I didn't see a link for that cable.
I need something similar. So I'm going to run multiple cameras into my Atem mini pro, then of course have an output to a monitor where I can view the cameras as I'm switching them, but THEN I also need an additional output to run to another computer in order to live stream. 🤔
you know what also works , if you happen to have 4 hollyland 300 laying around... that would work sweet..
Hello Mate! Thank you for your video... Please tell me, how would you connect a Logitech brio 4k to the BlackMagic Mini Pro? Which adapters would you use?
Does the video and audio come through the USB out. I'd like to get audio mic plugged in camera to come with video through HDMI micro to atem. Then out to PC USB for zoom or Skype. Any advice for best flow. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the video. What did you say was the next step up from Atem Mini?
ATEM Television Studio HD! The only downside is it doesn't handle mixed frame rates as well as the Mini, and it doesn't have the new built in audio tools, but other than that it's a solid tool!
It's also all SDI which will incur additional cost for smaller streamer type setups. You can also use less splitters if you only need to monitor some, but not all sources. Cool video!
Atem televidion HD doesn't have USB c output you will need a capture card to stream to your Pc
Blackmagic today released an "ATEM Mini Pro" that has Multiview (along with other cool features)
Yes! So worth it for the built in streaming alone!
@@aaronpk I initially thought they had software-upgraded the ATEM Mini, hadn't noticed the extra buttons at the top. Excellent stuff from BMD, as usual. With 599$ still a bit steep, especially since connecting the ATEM Mini to i.e. OBS Studio is a piece of cake, and you need a PC nearby anyway.
with the new Pro you don't need a PC at all! It can stream directly to CZcams, and you can control it via the buttons on the front or make macros and use an iPad!
@@aaronpk true :) Thanks!
Exactly how I feel about the Mini! We use it for church with three static cameras and computer feeding power point into the mini on channel 1. Nice and simple, works great for what we do!
That's a perfect scenario for this device
@@al4video I am still learning but so far so good! I run the sound and video so simple is good!
Thanks for your comment, can you please tell me which static camera are you using, i want to buy for my church...
Thanks
@@abilight.a2720 I use 2 Cannon HF 800 cameras and a 8 year old Sony Handicam, both consumer video cameras. The Cannon is good, just make sure you have plenty of light, the old Sony is my favorite though! I paid around $200 for each camera but you can buy refurbished Cannons for around $130 on B&H Photo and Video. The cameras work fine for what we do and are good starter cameras. Real cheap video cameras from China do not have a clean HDMI out which is needed!
Mad scientist engineering!
If I already have Atem Mini and Video Card do I need capture card (eg. Elgato HD60 Pro) to use VMix on my Windows PC? Thanks!
Can i have the same setup for 4K recording from out from Sony alpha cameras?
Quick question. After 30 mins most camera stop recoding then they need to shutter start again can you avoid that using atom mini pro iso?
Yes, if you use the ATEM Mini Pro ISO to record instead of recording in your camera, then you won't be stuck with the 30 minute limit in the camera. One thing to look for though is to make sure your camera has clean HDMI out and also has a way to disable any power-saving options.
I use hollyland mars 300 or 400 it works well without hdmi spotters and also its wireless from the camera.I use that and 60 dollars multi view like yours
I stopped at 0:58 to write this, then I'll continue playback: I'm connecting four Sony X70 cameras from each HDMI output to a splitter/amplifier, then running the splits to A) a dedicated monitor and finally B) the Mini. That way I can see each camera output on their own monitors as previews, then connect the MIni's HDMI output to a fifth monitor for program.
does a Ninja2 work as a recording unit with the atem mini ? Reason I ask is I did your hookup as you showed us and found a problem with sending the signal to the ninja. Very Frustrating !!!
I'm thinking about making my atem mini as a "suped-up" web presenter and using my atem production 4k studio as my primary switcher. What are your thoughts?
Yes! Obviously the Mini can't do 4K, but that's fine for streaming. You could use the Mini as an easy way to switch between your main program feed from the big switcher and fade-to-black, or putting up a start/end screen. It also has some great audio tools in it (check out my other videos!) which means you can boost the audio on the stream but not affect your main program. You could also keep a persistent corner logo overlay on the mini and not have it burned in to the recording you're making from the big switcher. Lots of possibilities! And at this price, it's almost a no-brainer to get it!
Unfortunately the TV Studio HD is not a straight upgrade; it doesn't have input scalers or the full-featured audio mixer. Maybe we'll get an update at NAB 2020...
I wouldn't be surprised if we do! I'm going this year and will definitely be posting about everything I see there!
Great video!! Wanna ask if there is any delay of video from direct input to atem mini? Also any video out sync (audio n video) occurred? Thx!!
There's only a couple frame delay in the video processing, but all the inputs stay in sync themselves and with the audio coming in from HDMI. If you have audio coming in from the 1/8" jacks you'll notice a slight delay in the video between that audio and the audio from the HDMI sources.
@@aaronpk thanks for telling!!
Is it possible to make a portrait orientation of Camera?
Hi, does the Multiviewer support different framerates (25p , 50i , 30p) at the same time?
Yes it does! Look closely at 6:49
I want at list to have one view at a time to see what it records. But It doesn`t show up on on software. Do you have any idea why? Have you any video with the answer? tnx!
I think most people can cope with Preview form the HDMI, and Programme to the PC. Preview stops you making too many mistakes, and you can cycle your inputs to check all 4 cameras.
very good point :) just sold it to me.
Can you show how to connect one/multiple gopros to the atem mini?
You just need a micro HDMI to HDMI cable and it'll work. However, the gorpro HDMI output is significantly delayed, so it was pretty much unusable in my experience. Maybe if you had only gopros the delays would sync up, but I'm not even confident about that.
you don't loose the hdmi quality if you split it into two?
No. Digital.
man... nice video ... I need help with something...my camera doesnt delivery 16:9 image ... is there any way for scale the camera and get rid of the two black bars on the side with the regular atem mini?
Unfortunately not, but you might check the camera for a setting like that instead
Great video. Price isnt too bad. But in telling folks to not do this and just get a atem tv studio you forgot the fact the mini can handle different resolutions. The tv studio needs everything to be the seem which means people could be stuck needing converters on top of a bigger initial price tag.
My larger point was that people in the target market of this device don't actually need multiview, and people who need multiview would be better served by the more powerful TVS anyway.
@@aaronpk I know. I'm just being nitpicky. Keep up the great work. Love your videos.
Don’t know if the Atomos sumo is a better option? Used can be pretty affordable - 4 ins, love touchscreen switching and internal recording and LuT-able if needed.
Sure if you wanna spend $2500 instead of $300!
