- "Time passes after the events of the Namek Arc and everyone goes on with their lives. The peace ends abruptly when Frieza, now a cyborg, arrives to exact his revenge for his defeat. Before the Z-Fighters can confront him, a mysterious teenager named Trunks intercepts and easily beats him, revealing he too is a Super Saiyan. After Goku arrives back on Earth, Trunks reveals he's from the future and that a major threat is on the horizon in the form of androids that will kill the Z-Warriors and decimate the Earth. Goku won't even be able to help as he dies from a disease before their arrival though Trunks has brought a cure to prevent such a fate. With this, the Z-Warriors get to work training in the hope to counteract the threat. But there turns out to be some unexpected surprises that even Trunks was unaware of leading the Z-Warriors to face their greatest threat yet."

It does count, problem is that Vegeta sees it as an L, and is mean to Trunks for hurting his pride, rather than being proud of his son for doing something that he can’t.
So, because of karma from this attitude, Vegeta’s essentially trading in one dub for at least 5 Ls in the near future. All within this arc.
And, knowing karma, Goku is probably gonna get put in a similar position, and make a different choice, and have it be a much more successful one.
Techically it does, but given Vegeta's fragile pride during this point of the series, he wouldn't have accepted it. It was bad enough that, despite pleading to him to defeat Frieza, Goku had surpassed Vegeta in not only power. But also attaining the legendary transformation thought to be only myth until now. A form that HE felt he deserved by birthright.
Then here comes Trunks who, despite his intention, also bears the legendary super saiyan form that he couldn't achieve. Putting him likely even LOWER on the totem pole. It has to be the biggest blow to Vegeta's ego. And we see throughout the Android and Cell Saga that Vegata tries to do everything he can to establish his dominance back on the pecking order. In a blatant and desperate attempt to maintain his pride.

The trunks mystery and gradual reveal was one of the most intriguing plot points in the whole show for me as a young boy. Cell was quite mysterious, and ominous, but Trunks was more fascinating to me because it came with the added mystery of a new character who happened to look rad af. Plus, his intelligence creates potential for more plot as the audience is led to believe that he is withholding more juicy information about saiyans, androids, the future, etc
That Chichi and Vegeta joke man a timeline like that would be wild 🤣 that aside when trunks showed up and dropped all these lore bombs My excitement for every episode from then on just kept rising
I just realized that because Goku never fought Freeza and Cold, the Heart Virus took longer to hit him since Super Saiyan seems to make it worse. This is how he made it to Android Day 6 months later despite not taking the medicine.
He found out he didn’t like grape flavor and that it was an immunization shot in a tiny purple pot capsule bottle.
I don't think so. Trunks took out Frieza and Cold like they were nothing, and Goku blocked all of Trunk's blows with one finger. With that much power, Goku probably didn't even need SSJ to beat Frieza at that point.
And even if he did, Goku still used SSJ while talking to Trunks here, so that part wouldn't have changed
Very first time I experienced this part of the story was playing Legacy of Goku II. Even though in that game Trunks literally just walks up and bisects Frieza so nonchalantly, it still floored me how easily he was able to just send Frieza and his dad to hell.
He super heated the Freezer and Cold box.
Originally I thought Trunks was a Saiyan that heard of Goku while out in space.

Since the day that boy pulled up, he's been my favorite character. Then I saw the history of trunks and it was certified
Ya gotta love how all 3 of these arcs have just started off with an absolute BANG. Or, at the very least, something to keep you watching.
Saiyan saga? A bunch of huge, bombshell reveals, courtesy of Raditz. Namek saga? Major shift in location and a clear goal. Androids? Even more bombshells, courtesy of Trunks. They all flow together really nicely, in spite of all the timeskips that happen.
I really love how they outline what the upcoming threat is BEFORE a timeskip, if there isn’t multiple.
Cause we just got a timeskip from between Namek and Goku’s arrival, and a timeskip between Trunks’ departure and the Androids saga.
The most recent arc where they HAVEN’T done this was after the last world tournament, where Goku got married. They woulda lived in peace had Raditz not shown up.
Everything flows so nicely for the non-Buu arcs of DBZ.
While I’m on this train of thought, it almost feels like Saiyan/Namek/Androids sagas are a solidified period of DBZ, while the Buu saga feels more fitting with DBS in a lot of areas.
Like, the Buu saga dropped a lot of the sci-fi stuff to focus more on magic, and eventually Goku hanging out with divine beings. And Super moreso has a focus on Goku fitting in with the gods, rather than exploring and becoming the strongest on a stylized version of earth (like original DB), or dealing with sci-fi-like enemies from Z.
And that’s alongside how the Buu saga doesn’t really flow from the Androids saga as well as the previous 3 sagas did.
Vegeta getting with Bulma is a textbook example of being in the right place at the right time. Yamcha fumbling Bulma is a textbook example of fucking around and finding out

I'm just now realizing that the reason why the timeline is already different when Trunk's shows up is because Cell traveled to the past before him.

I feel bad because I was too young to understand just how incredible this all was. I was literally just starting grade school when Dr. Gero and Android 19 fisted (???) Yamcha and started eye-beaming South City. That episode had kid me convinced that if I just pretended I was an android I'd be able to shoot laser eyes too! XD Back then probably the only person beside me who thought Androids 19 & 20 were cool was Toriyama himself lol
A lot of the nuance of just how great these characters were and how Toriyama was dropping nukes onto everyone's TV screens back in the Toonami days got lost on the younger me, and I really appreciate KJM for highlighting it in a way you don't often see. We take the android saga for granted because it's been around so long, but looking back it was THE thing to watch.
It sucks we never got to see Goku vs 17 & 18 in either timeline..

This was the part of the story I saw dubbed before it aired on tv. I still have some of my old VHS tapes. Back when I use to reserved them at Media Play. We had a PC back then so I was in GT watching clips and reading some of the manga. I was the guy most knowledgeable about DBZ at that time in my friend group.
