- "Time passes after the events of the Namek Arc and everyone goes on with their lives. The peace ends abruptly when Frieza, now a cyborg, arrives to exact his revenge for his defeat. Before the Z-Fighters can confront him, a mysterious teenager named Trunks intercepts and easily beats him, revealing he too is a Super Saiyan. After Goku arrives back on Earth, Trunks reveals he's from the future and that a major threat is on the horizon in the form of androids that will kill the Z-Warriors and decimate the Earth. Goku won't even be able to help as he dies from a disease before their arrival though Trunks has brought a cure to prevent such a fate. With this, the Z-Warriors get to work training in the hope to counteract the threat. But there turns out to be some unexpected surprises that even Trunks was unaware of leading the Z-Warriors to face their greatest threat yet."

Ive honestly never thought of it as anything more than an intro to Trunks but that does bring a bit more depth to it especially since Frieza had the lowest quality scrap parts added to him and his power was still increased by alot.

To your point about how crazy this was, I do remember being a kid and losing my shit over how there was some other super saiyan out here, and how he appeared to be stronger than Goku by taking Frieza out without even trying.
In hindsight though, with better understanding of the characters, I think part of it was just the fact that Trunks doesn't showboat or toy with opponents. He fights to win, not for fun or pride, so he wasn't wasting time on him or King Cold.
One of my favorite aspects of his charqctwr; after everything he's been through, he's all business
my headcanon for the Burning Attack as always been that he does the hand signs as a way to build up heat and friction, making the blast more so a ki-enhanced fireball than a basic ki blast, and it's not that out of the picture considering he's canonically doing those at light speed, so it could be possible.
I could see that given the moves name.
I remember as a kid finding this magazine or book that was like a complete Dragon Ball guide which had all kinds of artwork, lore, listed characters’ power levels at different stages AND had written descriptions of the fights.
Some of them went on for several pages, and then there was “Future Trunks Vs. Android Frieza. Trunks cuts Frieza into a million pieces and blows him up.”
Trunk is probably the only dude in DBZ who was able to one shot boss level villains with a yellow ki blast. Like, he's the only one who broke the rule of yellow ki blasts only being used as blanks or for dealing with jobbers

@@guguganmo8560 Naw, Toriyama knows all the horrible thing Vegeta's has done (that we can only guess at) while showing no mercy so he also shows Vegeta no mercy, makes sense in a cosmic sort of way.
As for trunks doing hand signs I saw one theory was that because Gohan kicked the bucket and so he was left to train on his own he may have poor ki control and so the hand signs help him focus his ki, but this theory may begin to fall apart because if he has poor ki control he shouldn't be able to fly or turn super Saiyan at will
That explanation still works. We never see Trunks move ki after releasing it, like Yamcha's spirit ball, Frieza's kienzan, or the attack Krillin used to kill the Saibamen.
Just gonna say this right now. The japanese theme when Freeza got diced and cooked went hard. I immediately knew that Trunks was gonna end his buffoonery with that theme. Rest in hell Freeza 🙏

"Battle Point Unlimited" is the name of the theme for anyone who wants to look it up, it fit perfectly with the introduction out of nowhere of the warrior from the future (it has synth pop vibes that are so unlike anything else in the show).

The introduction of Trunks was flawless. It's such a out of left field development. Not only did this guy come out of nowhere, but he's also a super saiyan, he knows who goku and frieza are, and then proceeds to pull an Akuma and proceed to wipe his ass with the main villain like he's made of toilet paper.
Also I love that Trunks becoming super saiayan reveals that Goku literally beat Frieza so bad that he has PTSD.
Trunks came in proved himself as a real one while simultaneously making goku look like even more of a real one in the process.
The fact he went super saiyan so quick after us seeing a super saiyan for the FIRST time, was insane. Not to mention the quickness of him dealing with Frieza 😭🔥

@@HillthugstaIf this scene happened today for the first time with the original context left intact then the reaction wouldn't change much from the one people had back in the day. The reason why people would (rightfully) get upset if something like Future Trunks' introduction happened now is that Super Saiyan has already been given out like candy and Frieza is quite litterally at the level of the gods. Back when Future Trunks arrived, Goku was the only Saiyan (that was still alive) up until that point that transformed into it, and the form itself was considered a one in a thousand years legend, so if anything Trunks transforming into a Super Saiyan aswell only added to his misteriousness. As for Frieza, he was strong but Goku managed to beat him with a form that was new to him, so it made sense that someone else with the same form who seemed to even have a somewhat better grasp on it could beat him too. If a character went Super Saiyan upon their introduction now it would feel as just another in the Super Saiyan bargain sale, and if that character easily beat Frieza multiple questions about the power scaling would rise, like "How can this random character easily kill Final Form Frieza if Goku with the power of gods is still equally matched with him?" or "Why didn't Frieza transform into his Golden/Black Form?". And these *are* legitimate questions that one *should* ask if a random Saiyan became Super Saiyan and easily killed Broly movie Frieza or even worse Granola Saga Frieza. Again, it's all a matter of context. Someone who watched BoG and Resurrection F and only afterwards the first battle between Goku and Frieza wouldn't ask "Did Gohan become a child?" or "Wait, shouldn't they have Super Saiyan already?" because it would be easy to pick up on the context (in this case the fact that Namek comes many years before BoG and Resurrection F and that Super Saiyan was first introduced as a transformation at the end of this battle). If they want to have an introduction like Future Trunks' now they should give this new character clear visual indications of being trained under a GOD or an Angel in their design and transform into either Super Saiyan God or Blue or even better a new form that the characters and the audience can recognize as similar to a form Goku and Vegeta already have, for example a Super Saiyan God with the Ultra Instinct Sign aura and hair style, which would signfy a combination of both forms' multipliers instead of just UI's ability to dodge on top of the SSG form with no power boost like Goku can do, or a SSB with a face more akin to Ultra Ego's (more "evil" looking) and purple energy coming from this Saiyan's body instead of the normal Blue energy. These new but familiar forms would work because, again, it would be shown through details in the character's desing that they got trained by gods, maybe show a pattern of shapes similar to that of the other GODs but never actually seen in a GOD while still giving the character "normal" clothes (not a GOD or a Kai's uniform) so the audience understands even before this Saiyan transforms that they recieved godly training but not from any of the currently known GODs and Angels. This way any power scaling related questions would be answered before they were even asked *and* the character would have an aura of misteriousness around them.

What really sat with me as a kid was this dude comes in, cleans up two Defcon 1 threats without breaking a sweat then he's like "yeah I'm saucy but that Goku somethin' special" then flies off to literally wait on his ass.

The man literally came back as writhing pieces of meat that, no, you did not read that wrong, WERE STILL MOVING SOMEHOW, and with high-quality healing machines, were able to fully heal Frieza. That's what I appreciate about freeza vs the rest of the villains that came after him. Everyone after him had some absurd op healing, freeza takes and keeps whatever damage he got... but that boy is DURABLE. He tonka tough, made out of nintendium, dude tanks SO much damage, you thought he'd be unkillable, but no. It's just that his defense is THROUGH THE ROOF. Notice how when earth blew up, kid buu was scattered to pieces and needed to reform. Freeza however lived his explosion as JUST A TORSO AND ARM.
Makes no sense that he survived Goku's final blow plus the explosion of a planet actually.
The story was supposed to end there. Mecha Frieza is dumb.

What I also loved is how everyone who was on namek was so utterly aware of how screwed they were when freeza was pulling up. Even Vegeta said "lemme just spell it out for you: we are all of us completely screwed. This is our and the earths last day alive, all we can do is go down swinging "
You just gotta wonder how much of a high Trunks was feeling, beign able to actually take down the main threat to the planet, with relative ease mind you. after years of seeing the androids ravage his world slowly and painfully, without beign able to do anything about it.
Still the greatest intro ever. Dude clowned Frieza and daddy like they were the warm up match and then proceeds to ask the crew who wants a cold drink. Still remember kids at school straight gassed talking about this purple haired menace that following Monday.

We're introduced into new characters, different plots and twist, it's just amazing. Overall no anime is topping DragonBall Z. Keep doing your thing bro, I appreciate the content.
I thought the whole reason Trunks had to do the hand motions was to 'sell' the attack that's coming Frieza's way. It probably wasn't meant to cook Frieza outright in one shot since Frieza survived Goku blasting him and Namek's explosion... But Frieza didn't know that since he probably still couldn't sense Ki. So here's this big fireball with a long windup, aimed right at his feet... Nowhere to go but up, and that's right where Trunks wanted him to go and dice him like a tomato.
I like to imagine there was still a few Frieza force staff aboard the ship when Trunks blew it up that had absolutely no idea they were about to stand in line for potentially a year
To me, this the most iconic "intermissionary arc." I vividly remember watching Trunks dispatch of King Cold on nicktoons and theorizing on who he was and the insanity of there being another ssj. Villains are setup so well in DB and DBZ, we have a character shown to be this powerful telling us about villains that make him look like child's play.

I loved future Trunks! This scene right after the Namek saga really changed the tone of this show. I was wilding when dude absolutely TOASTED Freeza like he was nothing. Then he just chills and waits for Goku like he just took out a bag of garbage as if what he did was nothing.
I miss the days when there was something more to the story and it was not just a quest for power-up’s.
It's a darn shame how Future Trunks had such an epic entrance into the DB series, but when he returned 3 years later; he lost his luster...
Dude was losing his mind trying to stop his dad from letting the Androids awaken, he got knocked out after only 2 hits from the androids (well 17 hit him from behind and 18 threw Vegeta at him), Perfect Cell made a fool of him and Super Perfect Cell killed him. Thankfully, he got some swag points back by taking out Future 17, 18 and Cell with style!
For the record, I don't like to think about how Super ruined the character by destroying his ENTIRE TIMELINE making everything he worked for in Z mean absolutely nothing!
Ironic how Shin during the Buu arc was a purple copy of Future Trunks; a mysterious character with great power and a warning of an upcoming threat, but he sadly turned into a walking pile of anxiety freaking out over the release of Buu like Trunks was with the Androids...
The debut factor really died down. Tends to happen in a lot of stories.
Meanwhile with Kaioshin, he didn’t even get to do that much of anything to deliver on the hype even before MB’s revival.

Lots of iconic Moments, lots of mistery solving, lots of new and Great characters, Great fights and scenarios, drama, even some terror, like When cell was going from city to city killing everyone silently, those scary news reports...sheesh.
It felt like, even with the power gained by our heroes through the series, they failed on keeping the planet safe. That was for me the Cherry on top...all was happening right on earth and You never knew who's ass was on the line next! Congrats bro this is amazing.

Hey KJM! Great Vids as always! This vid is the prominent reason why I think that Frieza and almost all other villains in the series can’t box FR. Frieza had the Blessing of just being born stronger than any other beings in the universe and never had to learn how to actually box, which is why he got desperate and starting throwing the Key Blast Spam of Vegeta. If he fought Kakarot with just pure hands and equal power level on Namek, Kakarot in my opinion would Wash Frieza FR.
