Edward Lewis is a self-made billionaire and a tough businessman. As he’s on his way to Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, driving his lawyer’s Lotus Esprit, he’s struggling to drive, having had little experience ever driving on his own. He pays a woman he sees on the street called Vivian to drive him to the hotel, who’s a hooker. At first, he has no intention to have anything to do with her other than let her drive him, but when they arrive at the hotel, he finds her cute and interesting to talk to, and asks her to follow him into the hotel room…

I saw this movie in theater with my date when I was like 19. I thought this movie would be super boring and wanted to watch something else, but didn't want to say no on my first date. It turned out I enjoyed this movie far more than my date and still remains one of my favorite movies of all time. If any other actress played Vivian, this movie would never succeeded. Julia Robert was born to play this role.

But let’s keep it real if he was just a normal guy asking for directions they wouldn’t have passed the hour. She seems genuinely great but without the money there would not have been any like this.
That's just the reality of life, most woman wait at the finish line for us as men after we've made something of ourselves, granted I'm fortunate my wife was with me from the very beginning so I've been blessed with her.

She LIED saying she charges 100 hr cause she was trying to inflate her worth to him and be witty & Coy in her flirtation, with hopes that he'd believe her and pay her more. She was lying through her teeth. She wanted to get as much out of him as possible but was going to take whatever he offered that was above 100 anyways. She didn't take any less than a hundred, which kit told her not to do anyway. In general, she knew she wasn't getting that amount but 300 is better than nothing
One of my favourite movies of all time. I wanted to see more like when they get married have babies her finishing school and what career she took. Every year I watch this movie since I was 10 I’m now 35 it’s a tradition in our family me and my sisters and mum watch it around Xmas ❤

Tbh the math in this movie throws me. Because if its $100/hr and she stayed all night it should be about $800 (going based off of 8hrs of sleep because i have no idea how long they were actually together that night). Then he asks her to stay for the entire week, that should be 24hrs * 7days * $100 = $16,800 so she got lowballed tbh. But if they get married then baby girl set for life 😂😂😂
she said 300 a night too, that means 2100 a week and at 3000 she made a profit....

The actual gig was about $20 per night back then. But her friend Kit, after analysing the man, asked her to charge $100 per night. It was when he easily dismissed the $100, that she said it was per hour and he agreed! So when she said $400, she was actually charging at $50/hr and he refused, demanding $300 which is about $38 per hour so great gain. And $3000 per week (7 days) is about $428/day.
And the synopsis is that they live happily ever after...

Idiot. You do realize she said that as a bluff to get him to give her $300 in the first place cause the rent Kit blew was $100. Back in the 80s, $300 back then was around the equivalent of $500 today. Just like $100,000 in the 10s and 40s could be estimated at 1 million today in worth. She settled for the 300 cause she knew not to push her luck with him and that was enough to pay the rent and then some.
@vashish39 300 back then was way more in value than it is worth today. That person is uneducated as hell. Small amounts of money in the 70s and 80s were in inflation value higher than today. Like for instance in the show good times they all say nickels and quarters or 10 bucks or 20s even 5 bucks is a lot of money cause you can stretch that money far back then. Today 300 is worth nothing yet ironically with inflation its a lot. 300 a night is expensive
