I'll show you how to quickly replace 'blank' cells with a missing value code in the Data View tab and then define that missing value code in the Variable View tab.
Thanks, very helpful! I also have missing data from a 'decline to answer' option I provided in my survey - would this be checking the 'system or user missing' option and placing the value spss has already allocated to the decline option in the new values box?
thanks for the video it is very useful. i face a problem in SPSS. my data includes negative valu3s as -127.79 when i type it or paste it in SPSS it does not appear the cell remains blank. i need these negative values since most of them are negative. please help !!!
Thanks so much for this video, it was really helpful. I had a question regarding coding answers that are inapplicable. In my survey, some people wrote their nationality rather than their ethnicity. Under another question, "what year are you in? (University)", I have a variety of answers that do not apply, like the year they were born, the year they expect to graduate, the study program etc. How would I begin to code and define these values? Should I just code all of them with "99" for example, and define them as missing? Would appreciate any help I can get :)
When I do this and then just run Analyze=>Descriptive Statistics=>Frequencies, the blank values are still counted in the percentages. How do I omit the blanks from the percent calculation??
hey this is great! How about setting missing values for string variables? I have a string variable that has some blank cells, finding it quite hard to set missing values for them

I'm also facing the same issue☹
blank spaces are by default considered missing value in spss
thanks for sharing this video

change it into numeric in variable view.
@@nikidcruz9228 Thank you so much, you dont realize how much helpful your reply was. You literally saved me
Thanks for asking this question!
If i code the not applicable with zero is it ok or shall i keep it blank ?! Please help
Why are all of mine coming up missing values?
This didn't work. The frequencies still count -1 as missing values and even show the percentage. How can we actually omit it
2022 thx
Didn't work at all.
