- This series will be all about the people in the commercial fishing industry, which will start in the Florida Keys and then hopefully end up all over the world! We will discuss how each industry operates and what it takes to collect their catch, but I want to dive deeper and learn more about those who have dedicated their lives to this industry and what life is like these days. While living in the Florida Keys, which is a commercial fishing mecca, I have heard so many stories and now I want to share them with you!
If you are a commercial fisherman/woman or know someone who would like to be a part of the series, please have them contact me at www.scottcgerke.com/contact
While this series may not be updated on a regular basis, there will be plenty of other videos uploaded to this channel which all hold the same principle: exploring human connection through the power of a simple hello.
Thanks for being here and I hope you find value in what I produce!

Who am I? I'm a full-time DJ in Key West, FL, who lost all of his work during the beginning of the pandemic and decided to pick up a camera and start a video series that was always on my mind. I sold off most of my belongings, moved into my van, and travelled the country filming experiences with people I once never knew all through a simple hello. I am now back in town as a DJ, but the love for filming never went away. So now I'm a filmmaker by day and DJ by night :)
Please consider joining me as I explore human connection all through the power of a simple hello.

Would you ever try Alaska commercial fishing?
For sure! I did just get an email invite to film Kodiak Island for salmon so maybe that'll work out at some point 🤞Since lately, I've been trying to get a gig as a DJ to help offset the costs of making these videos (I'm a private event DJ for a living), so if I'm able to book an event somewhere out in that area, it would be easier for me to pull this video off.
I know you probably won't answer, but how hard is it to find a job on a fishing boat? I'm 18, I live in a landlocked state with no sea, and this has always been my dream.
Go for it! It all depends on your willingness to learn and work. Start making some phone calls and get connected with the fishery you're interested.
Hello, I'm a commercial shrimper from Alabama. The jobs are around, but the industry is declining in lots of areas. That is not to say that you can't still make a living. It is just very hard work and often times financially unrewarding. If none of those things scare you, then I suggest you decide what you would like to try and find Facebook groups about that fishery and in the area you would like to work. Often times posts looking for deckhands are abundant, but I can't speak for every fishery. Make a post introducing yourself and make it known you are "Green" so they know you have no experience and they will need to train you. Some of the most amazing things I've ever seen have happened aboard those boats, not all of them were good but I'm still here and I've still got all my digits and I wouldn't trade it for all the money in the world.
Where is the full video 🤷🏼♂️
This is an introduction to the commercial fishing video series I've been working on. Slowly adding to the catalogue. Florida lobster one here: czcams.com/video/v9EusDn6RCY/video.html
And working on a king mackerel gill net video now. Soon will be on a shrimp boat. Thanks for stopping by!
look in alaska fishing
that's on my list for sure
Would you do massachusets
I sure would! If I had my way, I'd go all over the country, event the world. I just need to work on getting enough funding to make all of that happen.
@Scott Gerke just let me know and I'll get you a spot
@@ottoosmers9273 awesome! Can you send me an email with info on the fishery as well as the boat, please? I have a list of people to stay in touch with to help keep things organized. www.scottcgerke.com/contact I look forward to hearing from you!
