I can believe that Mega Ray was designed to be the craziest thing in the world.
But did nobody play test Zacian or Zamazenta?
The first is absolutely broken, and the second is mediocre. I’m sure now which one stopped the darkest day in Galarian lore.
Zamazenta was SUPPOSED to be Zacian's answer, except Zamazenta (pause the irony) was too frail to take the hit
@@scrittle If it got Body Press and perhaps if its ability worked like a built-in Sturdy, then MAYBE Zamazenta would've been worth considering for competitive...
@@scrittle"They are an unstoppable force meets and immovable object"

@@ZorotheGallade
If Intrepid Shield worked like a built-in Endure, it would have seen play. I can’t think of any UBERs that use Sturdy, since everything is either so bulky or powerful in UBERs that it doesn’t matter.
Mega ray was not designed to be the craziest thing in the world
Xerneas was…it was without the strongest Mon in Gen 6 VGC and arguably the strongest in gen 7 too
So in gen 7 GF tried to answer it with solgaleo and necrozma…but they completely fail
So I think that’s where zacian comes from, and near perfect and completely unstoppable answer to xerneas (and other dragons like ray, palkia, kyurem etc.)
And the funniest part? They still fucking failed because in VGC series 10 of SWSH (dynamax was banned) xerneas was good again, meaning it was dynamax that made it bad not zacian

Zacian is like if GameFreak decided to buff Mega Mawile. Higher effective attack most of the time, better bulk, and significantly better Speed.
Which I hate so much, game freak has a boner for Fairy Steel types
@@Ben-jl2rh Wich I can understand, it´s a very good typing.
@frozenherolp9077 My problem is that they need to buff the weaker typings defensively and nerf Fairy & Water.
Buff Bug, Rock, and Ice defensively, and buff Poison & Normal Offensively.
Bug should hit more types for neutral and should have hit fairy for super while resisting at least 1 more type.
Rock is weak to too many things. It should only have 2 or 3 weaknesses, not 5.
Normal should have hit Fairy for super effective, too, and Ice should resist at least 2 more types.
Poison should have been able to hit more than 2 things for Super effective damage.
GF & Nintendo don't really care about balance if they have really skewed the meta game this much to please themselves.

From Flutter Mane to Regieleki to Calyrex-Shadow, Gen 9 has got to have the quickest and the most Quick Bans in Competitive Pokémon history
I will never stop laughing at the fact that the fastest Pokémon ever also got the fastest quickban ever.
Dont forget Duraludon when it joins LC
@@tysondennis1016 somewhere in the lower tiers, both electrodes are laughing their non-existent butts off
Miraidon got quickbanned faster than Mega-Ray did in National Dex too. He's only still around in this gens Ubers because of the limited roster making things like Ting-Lu more viable.
Correction: They got quick banned at the same time but Miraidon was sighted as being more oppressive and harder to check.
@@eieneidnf They’re noob traps, being fast support mons with speed and not that much else.
I still don’t understand how Game Freak thought Mega Rayquaza not needing a held item would be a good idea.
because not everything is supposed to function in a 6v6 singles meta. 99% of people play the story mode and feeling extremely overpowered is literally the thing that we want
@kartiksaraf4676 also the official format for years and years has been doubles so people complaining about this stuff ought to either try out older gens, get into other rpg franchises like shin megami tensei or the rpg like a dragon games, or GTFO from the comment section
@@eieneidnfYeah, but if VGC Doubles is prioritized in terms of game balance, why not just have Double Battles become the primary battle type in the main single-player story with Single Battles being secondary?
Because Pokemon are designed for kids first and foremost and double battles are way more complicated to explain as a recurring mechanic to someone who knows nothing compared to singles.
I absolutely think we need more Doubles focused games as spinoffs like the Gamecube duology but the single player campaign of Pokemon and the VGC angle have always been *wildly* different levels of priority for Game Freak.
They may balance for VGC (since typically being too powerful in Pokemon's single player is rarely a turnoff) but they absolutely put 99% of their focus on the single player experience cuz that's where 99.5% of the players will care.
VGC and Singles are both very good things for Pokemon but they're openly not Game Freak's top priority and it'd be really self-sabotaging if they turned the single player Campaigns into things to prepare you for comp, either VGC or Singles, since the vast majority of fans playing the games will at most care about battling in the sense of "fighting your buddy and having a laugh" rather than because either person is actively building a team with the intent to beat the other guy and the teams he could being.
It's kinda weird though, I'll 100% give that, cuz Pokemon is trying to juggle 3 different audiences but they've never been subtle about the fact that since Gen 5, their balance and design focuses have always been single player first, then vgc, and finally Singles (for example while changing weather abilities to no longer be permanent or the entire existence of Heavy Duty Boots are designed for Singles, for every 1 choice that's aimed at singles there's dozens for the others, cuz for better or worse, Smogon and the like has always been a fan thing whereas VGC and the single player have been officially supported by game freak for ages.
@@ArbitraryOutcome It’s prioritized because it’s the only way to make tournaments interesting to watch and play. 6v6 singles tournaments would be literal hell, singles is still the base for the games itself, just not the tournaments (there’s also the official 3v3 singles format in online).
Calyrex-Shadow's bounty being 1.5 billion berries is pointless since it's unnerve ability prevents you from eating said berries once you catch it. 😉
With V-Create, mega Ray is effectively running three 120 bp STAB moves, truly an engineering marvel
What makes Mega ray so much more broken than all of the other mons on this list is how unpredictable it can be. 180 on both its Attack and Sp.Attack just makes it nye impossible to predict what set a person is going to run. Especially considering that it has access to some of the most powerful physical and special attacks in the game and being able to hold an item makes it terrifying. Zacian-C and Calyrex-S are both really linear pokemon, but they are incredibly potent at what they do.
It's almost like they were convinced locking M-Ray to a specific move would balance it a little but Dragon Ascent is actually good
this is just false lmfao. The fact that Zacian and Calyrex were as effective as they were while diong the same thing over and over is more a testament to their brokenness than rayquaza who needed to switch around sets to beat various "counters" in the tier

10:48 I remember when ORAS came around where there was new mega evolutions for pokemon in PU like Lopunny and Beedril that because of how the tier functioned, you could legally use completely OP megas in PU for like 2 hours and then they banned them. I think that is considered the fastest quickban in games history but I'm not so sure
Could be. But technically the fastest ban would be pre-release ban where known troublemakers are str8 up sentenced to BL before the game even released. But welp, I forgot which strat & gen was that. Kinda remember there's 1 happened during BW1 transition to BW2.
Was it Linoone? Belly Drum Linoone?
Speaking of Mega Rayquaza's Dragon Ascent, GameFreak should give Gyarados that move, too. It's perfect for it.

I think it should be more considering they are like gods
I still want to know why Regigigas was treated so badly when they could make something like Zacian.
Aside from one of the best type combos in the game, they also felt like giving Zacian a ridiculously good ability because it's stats weren't broken enough. And then there is Regigigas who is a normal type, worst ability in the game and couldn't learn protect until recently. Like just why?
Let's review Calyrex-Shadow:
Mega Gardevoir Special attack stat,
electrode speed stat,
roughly incineroar bulk stats,
120 Base power ghost 100 accuracy, no draw back (the most spammable move possible)
special attack moxie + unnerve to block resist berries
and don't forget, in VGC it target's both and you can get +2 special attack
This doesnt mention Shadows most broken part
Is a plant
No really thats like the dumbest part about it
You forgot to mention that it has the same speed as the 2 fastest mega evolved pokemon... (Alakazam and Aerodactyl), props to electrode for that too.
The fact that Zacian had to tweak its set just to beat the Quag is amazing to me.
it's like ADV Pokémon running HP Grass for Swampert.
You take away unaware and Quag isn’t anything special.
Plus, chip damage and any previous damage would let Zacian run over Quag.
I always thought yeah megareyquazas stats are crazy, but I always thought that broken ability is what made it to broken. Losing half its weaknesses when u have that much of every stat is crazy and I have no clue who approved him😂
I really think he only got that ridiculous because they made Primal Kyogre and Groudon and Rayquaza lore wise was supposed to smack both of them
Also being a Mega that can hold an item
Not to mention, Ray gets usage out of BOTH his abilities, since base ray ability activates on switch and m ray ability activates on mega evolution. So he effectively has 2 abilities, both of which are very good too
I can only guess they thought it was fine for vgc with the primals and Xerneas running around. I wasn’t playing that much vgc16 but I do remember Xerneas and P-Groudon getting more praise and usage than M-Ray? It’s a little easier to keep a hyper offensive monster in check with two mons, tools like Trick Room and Protect, and an incredibly powerful fairy type who could run away with the game with one set up turn.
Although it of course went on to win worlds that year lol.
between the two galar dogs, i thinks its obvious who did most of the work during the darkest day

Some honorable mentions belong to the both Mega Gengar, Shedinja, and Miraidon in the gen 9 NatDex Ubers tier.
Mega Gengar was already a very controversial mon in gen 7 Ubers, thanks to its insane stats and Shadow Tag ability. In gen 8, Gengar gained the move Encore, which didn't matter in this gen since NatDex didn't have an Ubers tier that gen. However in gen 9, Mega Gengar with Shadow Tag + Encore was unleashed in full force and it broke the tier completely.
Shedinja has been said by many in videos, but the gist is that this mon was not meant to exist at the same time as Terastallization, and this mon alongside with Assist + Revivial Blessing were the main culprits of the initial dissolving of NatDex AG.
Miraidon's ban basically comes down to this thought question: "What happens if you take the currently very powerful new box cover legendary with a broken ability, and give it the ability to use Dragonium Z?" The answer: a no switch-in nuke.
Btw, both Calyrex-Shadow and Mega Rayquaza are also banned in that tier for pretty much all the expected reasons. The former does have Yveltal in the tier, and the latter has a new powerful check in Zacian-Crowned to deal with it, but it didn't matter in the end for either of these two mons.
It wasn't revivecats that got nat dex ag displaced it was the pssies that complained and cried about it instead of learning how to team build that got nat dex ag disolved

I respect your opinions, but I still think the Lati Twins are better for this. I really miss when the Ubers speed tier was actually slower than OU. Not only did this balance out the dynamic (at least by Ubers standards) of bulky/powerful vs speedy, it also gave a lot of OU Pokemon a niche in the higher tier. For example, in gen 4 Lucario is actually better at beating legendaries than it performs in its own tier. In OU, it’s too slow, frail, and can’t hit hard enough with its priority. In Ubers, it at worst speed ties with the bulkier threats in the game, and anything faster it e speeds to death allowing it to clean up late game very reliably. It even gets plenty of opportunities to set up a swords dance thanks to its great typing for a meta filled with dragons and steels. It’s not walling anything, but it can at least take a resisted hit as a setup opportunity. Same with Garchomp, which was known as the Ubers killer for its slightly faster speed than palkia and strong dragon moves as well as earthquake for many of dragons usual counters. 100 speed was considered blazing fast, most sat at 90 and traded some EVs for bulk. Anything with more than that was a glass cannon like deoxys and mewtwo that can’t just outspeed and ohko everything.
Around gen 6, they started shying away from this design philosophy. Mega Ray was just dumb, and while Xerneas needed to boost for its speed, it was still a menace that required niche counters like klefki on every team. By generation 8, this design philosophy was completely thrown out the window. I remember when I first saw Zacian, i couldn’t believe it’s stats, movepool, and typing. Then I saw it’s ability and was dumbfounded. My initial reaction to hearing about it was that balance among the box legendaries had gone out the window. But I was like “well, it may be bad, but it’s Ubers, at least you could revenge trap it for dugtrio to limit it.” That was until I saw it outsped dugtrio by a mile, and to make matters worse a choice scarf dugtrio can’t even OHKO. That’s just sad. And of course calyrex was released in the Gen that removed pursuit. Considering what we’ve seen in Gen 9 now, the design philosophy for box legendaries is completely gone, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see one that can hit 100% accurate OHKO moves soon.
i wouldn't say Mewtwo was frail, it was balanced by the fact that pure psychic is an awful typing in ubers where the stab doesn't do much and pressure is an ability that doesn't mean much when everything dies in 2 hits.
Also old legendaries usually had bad typing combinations generally with pure ground and water, flying/fire and psychic, dragons all over the place, even arceus only ever had one type. Gen 6 - 7 was when ubers started to diversify the typings with fairys, darks, and steels which before required lower tiers to fill those roles. Who needs ferro when you have Nekrozma.
There's nothing necessary wrong with legendaries being fast, it adds variety, look at Mewtwo and... Zamazenta 😢. Even lugia or Arceus too, to an extent. What makes them overpowered is WAY MORE to it than just fast. Koraidon and Miraidon would be just be fine if they just had Drought and Electric Surge, SV Zacian is what she should've been like in the first place but Crowned would still be insanely strong anyhow cause fairy/steel is too good, so imo that would be the culprit. For Mega Ray just force it to hold an item and have Delta Stream just provide a Filter effect for Flying effective attacks (for example Rayquaza would still take 100% from a Moonblast but takes 3/4 from a Stone Edge).
For Shadow rider (and spectrier too by proxy), I would remove Grim Neigh and replace it with... how about perish body? Remove Nasty plot and Will-o-wisp, and make Astral Barrage be a Double Edge clone.
@@yungmuney5903 These mons would still ruin the meta. Arceus is OP too it got banned, and later on it was still a big part of the metagame, but its offences are still less impressive for ubers standards and you can only have one so it was a choice between an offensive Arceus or a support one. Lugia's offences were weak

It's still pretty great, but Skeledirge gives it some issues now. Which is a problem as Skeledirge is used to check a fair number of setup sweepers in Ubers as well thanks to Unaware ignoring opponent stat boosts while using Torch Song to boost its own Special Attack.

Dragalge, magcargo, drifblim, Aegislash or rotom and all of his forms! 💪💪💪
Sometimes I wonder: do you think that there are some dudes at gamefreaks who actually look at how their creations do in the single metagame? And if so, what do they feel?
Love the One Piece Wanted Poster Thumbnail. This is going to be awesome
Think about it- Miraidon’s ability is like combining Electric Surge and Transistor… Mega Sableye’s ability is like combining Good As Gold and Synchronize
Just purely broken
Mega sableye misses out on good as gold's ability to block defog though, magic bounce is arguably a sidegrade.
Now time to wait to see the bullies kicked out of the sandbox that is litttle cup (I sure do hope a skyscraper doesn’t come down and destroy it)
The Uber piece is real
the only reliable counter to Mega-Ray was a Choice Scarfed Rayquaza. Airlock + Ice Beam :D
Me when the Mega Ray is also Scarfed
gen 9 nat dex anything goes.
(insert the cries of M-ray, Zacian-crowned, and caly shadow)
I usted yo play a lot of AG gen6/7 and the best ways for me to check mega-ray used to be Lugia and max phys def yveltal with foul play and rocky helmet lmao
This is perfect as the Live action One Piece came out today
I thought this was gonna be about infamous Uber drivers
