- Czech voters have chosen former General Petr Pavel, an ex-chairman of the NATO Military Committee, as their new president.
He was the clear winner in a two-day run-off vote, seeing off his populist challenger Andrej Babis.
The role of president in the Czech Republic is mostly ceremonial but still has influence in choosing ministers.
Pavel, who becomes the fourth president of the Czech Republic, is seen as supportive of Western military aid to Ukraine.

Outsiders don't understand the horrible impact Ruzzian occupation has had on Eastern/Central Europe. For us this is decolonization just like African/Asian countries did from Britain/France.
Well said! That is exactly how it is for most of the former Eastern Europe. I’ve been waiting for this since the beginning of the 90s when the USSR collapsed, but wasn’t entirely defeated until now. So glad that Eastern Europe finally is getting rid of Russian influence. Congratulations to all Czech people, you’ve got an amazingly strong and dignified president! Love from Sweden.
@@__Aurora__ thanks, you don't know how much this election meant for us, since A. Babiš represented the oligarchic populism with orientation for Russia. It is nice to have some president who's backing moral values.
@@krystofk.2279
Oh, I followed the elections in 2021 and I am quite aware of Babiš oligarch-connections in Russia as well as in Hungary and Serbia (the Serbian president Vučić is the prolonged arm of the Kremlin in the Western Balkans). So, I am very, very happy for your sake that you finally got rid of Babiš and Zeman. Petr Pavel was much loved within the NATO as I can recall and I don’t doubt that he will be a steadfast leader for your country. 🙏
@@__Aurora__ Yeah, I know I've attended course Contemporary Balkans at my university and our professor mentioned all the bizzare things about Vučić and how the current prime minister is basically just a way for him to be still in a power...
Anyway it's so nice that you care about our politics, we have our hopes up. And I wish Serbia and Hungary get their non-oligarchic governments in place soon, so they can get from the post-communist shadow that overlooks all the past socialist/communist states.
Best wishes, and one last thanks. ❤
the idea of western Europe is dependent on exploitation of third world. such ideas need to be crushed by third world
that guy looks badass
He does
He is a badass
The best news for our country. i am do happy❤
Good man who dislikes Putin so yayyyy for Ukraine 🎉
Fantastic news! As we strengthen the NATO alliance we can continue to ramp up our confrontation with new Russian despotism in Europe.
Cool. Maybe you guys can jump into a hot war with Russia.
@@robertdominicanrepublic One can hope
@@lif6737 as someone who as experienced war... it's very last thing you want for your fellow country men.
NATO wants to destroy Europe. Look at their track record of destabilizing the middle east then causing mass immigration into Europe. Indigenous Europeans will be a minority in Europe in the next 50 years because of this
Would you rather dissolve NATO alliance and end up like Ukraine?
You remember Ukraine got from ruzzia security guarantees, right? Well, seems ruzzia doesn't remember anymore.
Pavel seems to be exactly that type of *calm* and *rational* we so desperately needed in the office. Till now, we had only careerist that were painful to watch and listen during public debates.
NATO won't attack ruzzia and ruzzians won't attack NATO. That doesn't mean we should let them mindlessly plunder our fellow country men.
People here really hating on Petr Pavel not knowing anything about about czech politics😂 I can´t even imagine what disaster would come if Babiš was elected
Just your usual downward spiral of mutual trust, values and human decency.
I guess it will be the end of Czech Republic if Babiš would have won😅

Happy days for CZE!
It was a choice between plague and cholera! Mr Pavel, a former Bolshevik, then later a NATO general! Well! The Czechs have no idea who they elected here, so naively! They must be suspicious when the Berlin and Brussels apparatchiks are so jubilant about the election!

I am so relieved that he was voted in.

Uncertainty will be increase in Europe, Russia federation will not like pro western and ex NATO secretary as a new president of Czech Republic,
Au contraire. This brings the certainity to Europe, that ruSSia will be defeated!
No one is scared of Russia anymore 😂 😂 😂
excuse me! Russia does not need an enemy when they have putin on their head! 😂
HEs also a ex bolshevik. So idk if we can trust him given his liberal ideas I hope he is not gonna implement them, Czech people are very conservative only in the cities there are liberals. So it seems weird that he won, it was also probs because the youth was programmed to hate babis, I remember when i didnt even know who babis was and I didnt like him cause even the teachers would talk about him. Maybe now they too can have open borders and experience all the joys of not having a country of one's own?
Could you elaborate more? We are part of Schengen Area since 2007. As well president of Czech Republic has quite limited competencies and many acts require countersign by prime minister.
@@MrToradragon Yes but you're still too white. You need to dilute your nation more inorder to show how progressive and developed you are. It's what liberal nations do.

Not to mention that 10% of population are already foreigners. But I guess that people from Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Caucasus, or even East Asia do not stand out so much in the crowd.
@@MrToradragon This is the part of the conversation where you try convince me and the rest of the world that all nations are equally diverse.

It was rigged we have sworn affidavits showing the other guy won 😂
Which what our resident Putinists would say, but don’t we all love the taste of Putinist tears tastes like victory.
There were few mistakes in some small voting districts. In the end it would not make a difference.
As long as we dedollarized Euro dollars, they will colapsed. Europe is at the brink of colapsing as they are indebted and having to support these x soviet countries. Soviet Union would have to collapsed and because of this great burdened, it went broke.

Czech Republic is in EU and NATO. So It is great, that president send clear message that we are not alone and we support our allies. But I understand that you have another opinion and I wanna learn to listen more. But I still have a hope you change your opinion a little. You know, in the end It is czech interest to be a part of the most advanced military organization and still evolving but strong economical and (one day maybe) political organization.
You can be a patriot and still do something for stronger EU and NATO, you can work on changes which are important to you. But as a patriot you understand too, that Czech Republic alone can't live as good as will be living people in bigger alliances in economical way and absolutely can't survive in the case of war.
I hope (repeat: I hope) one day all wars stops and people will live as one world, but it is my idealistic dream. But... you know... maybe. Well, faith is always the two words: "Maybe once."
@@michalhoos4667 There's a false choice portrayed to the European peoples between the West and the Rest, between the Brussels and the Moscovv. The real choice for Europe is to be or not to be a power on its own or an Asian penninsula and US protectorate. As Macron put it: BRICS+ membership + the European NAT0 without the US and possibly Türkiye, as Orban said no federation but an alliance of sovereign states with a free trade area without the undemocratic beaurocracy. The Ukraine should have been neutral. Well, their mistake. Russia is our partner not foe. Look at the Netherlands, Slovakia and well even Poland where the people are gonna have 3 yrs. fight between the president and the globalist-socialist. The EU is the USSR of our times. The NAT0 is the Warsaw pact of our time. The both are already dead. Germans and Hungarians always think the same but only the latter will tell you the truth says as an old saying goes.
@@petrsovicka Well... I don't think so. I can see a possibility in future: No NATO but stronger EU army. But not now. And Russia isn't a partner, but only a master. And it will be same until their people change it. I think the situation is similar to the situation around and in first WW. Past against future.
@@michalhoos4667 LOL, The U.S is the most ruthless great power with no friends just interests (and slaves). I used to think differently but since 1999 we have seen just what Kissinger described earlier. Russia is a declining great power not a threat. The declining hegemon is the threat to the world peace. America is the dangerous nation as Kagan said but thought differently.
