  • Hey folks! This is my first video on Fiat 500 maintenance, and its time to replace the spark plugs.
    The NGK spark plugs are pre-gapped to .026," which is perfect for a slightly modified or stock 500 Abarth. I left them at that gap, however, be sure to check that gapping is correct with a gauge before installing them. Please check your user manual or a trusted forum for proper gapping on your vehicle if it is not the same engine as the one in the video, the U.S. spec 1.4 turbo Multiair.
    Some information for you about the products I used:
    Spark Plugs (NGK Laser Iridium: a.co/4Rj85xd
    Spark Plug Socket (Magnetic 5/8): a.co/ewG65KO

    Awesome video man. Thanks! I just got to 35k and replacing them in a week, for some reason thought they needed replacement at 42k.

      Asterngeisha That’s the goal! I’m glad I could be a help!

      @EJSFilms2K To be fair I was originally quoted their Tune-up price $450 for spark plugs, air filter, and cabin filter. It jumped to $490 when I asked them just to replace coils and spark plugs. Apparently Fiat studios charge about $130 or so for an erroneous ECU reflashing fee. The forums say it's snake oil, fiat technicians say it's required. IF this was a VW, I'd believe it.
      For my situation unfortunately all I could afford was plugs at the time and I did it myself, and it turns out a previous shop of mine didn't actually change the spark plugs like I had asked them too at the 40k mile mark (which they incorrectly told me was the interval rating on these plugs.) Turns out I've been running on factory plugs and sitting at 85k miles. I about shit myself. Those plugs deserve an award especially with the way I drive.

    • @Asterngeisha
      @Asterngeisha Před 5 lety

      @EJSFilms2K Dealerships are like this, especially service departments. It's no secret their profit is primarily service and parts. That being said my studio has always been really accommodating and otherwise fairly priced. I had always taken my car to an old family shop (or done all my oil changes myself back when I had tools and didnt live in an apartment) until they started becoming bigger and treating their long-term customers like trash, the Fiat studio actually charges me less for services. When I had the transmission oil changed a month ago the Studio gave me a loaner car for a week, all smiles here. The secret is to know what your car needs and doesn't, they pick up on how educated you are on maintainence done on your own vehicle. That's why seeing 85k spark plugs chugging away 6 years later infuriated me. Usually that type of shit doesn't get by me. :)

      got my plugs replaced a month ago and the mechanic didnt use any gels etc...just unscrewed cols, pulled em off, put in new plugs, screwed coils back on...took under a few minutes and no problems...i really dont think the anti seize stuff is necessary but it could depend on where you live maybe? im in north east usa though..weather is shit half the year..

    Video @ 9:54 "They seem to work really well" - I own a 2013 Abarth 500C - WARNING ! This engine is very 'fussy' about its plugs - Don't use anything but the NGK spark plugs (the same set that he used in this video, NGK Laser Iridium SIKR9A7). Here's why : With SPORT mode off it runs great (fully stock engine) - With SPORT mode on and under 3,500 rpm it runs fine, idles fine, starts fine, slow acceleration/gentle throttle fine. - Now OVER 3500 rpm and at 80-100% throttle, it begins to miss, emanates machine gun popping from the exhaust, acceleration gets interrupted, it coughs and splutters. If I back off a little then gently throttle back on, it's ok, but when pushed it runs like crap. - This is all caused by the very high Boost of the "Sport" mode which creates faulty or OTHER brand plug "Ignition Interruption" inside the combustion chamber...
