  • Explore the complex relationship between Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) and total abstinence in addiction recovery. We will be discussing the pros, cons, and nuances of both treatment approaches, as well as how they relate to maintaining long-term sobriety, successfully changing problematic behaviors, and managing mental health.
    JD Kalmenson, CEO of Montare Behavioral Health will moderate our esteemed panel: Dr. Timothy Fong, Heather Hayes, and Lowell McGregor.
    Dr. Timothy Fong
    Dr. Timothy Fong is a Professor of Psychiatry at the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at UCLA and he is board certified in adult and addiction psychiatry. He is the director of the UCLA Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship, a one-year program that provides clinical training in the management of addictive disorders. He is also the co-director of the UCLA Gambling Studies Program. The purpose of this program is to examine the underlying causes and clinical characteristics of gambling disorder in order to develop effective, evidence-based treatment strategies. Dr. Fong is part of the Steering Committee of the UCLA Cannabis Research Initiative whose mission is to address the most pressing questions related to the impact of cannabis legalization through rigorous scientific study and discourse across disciplines.

    Heather Hayes
    Heather Hayes is the Founder and CEO of Heather R. Hayes & Associates, Inc. She is a Master’s Level, Licensed Counselor, Board Registered Interventionist (CIP) and Certified ARISE Interventionist. Mrs. Hayes received her B.A. from Emory University and her M.Ed. from Antioch University in Counseling Psychology. A veteran of the behavioral health field, she has over 30 years of experience working with addictions and other disorders and specializes in the treatment of adolescents/ young adults, trauma, brain disorders, complex mental health issues and the full spectrum of addictive disorders.
    Known as one of the country’s most prominent authorities on these topics, Ms. Hayes is a coveted speaker on the national and international stage and has been published in numerous journals, books, and other industry publications. Recognized for her comprehensive and trauma-informed approach to addiction and intervention, Ms. Hayes serves as an on- air expert and consultant for CNN and Dr. Oz and has been featured on A&E, ABC, CBS, BBC, FOX, and NBC. In addition, Ms. Hayes is a featured interventionist on the 2018 & 2019 seasons of A&E’s high-profile show Intervention.

    Lowell MacGregor is the founder and executive director of Taylor Made Retreat, a nonprofit abstinence-based 12-step immersion program located in Portland, Oregon. Lowell has been in recovery from his own alcoholism and addiction (Substance Use Disorder) since December 10, 1989. For the last 31 years, Lowell has worked passionately throughout the Pacific NW 12-step recovery community to touch as many lives as possible. Lowell has created a variety of events, from setting up new meetings to organizing weekend round-ups, to present the 12 steps and bring the 12-step community closer together. During the three-plus decades of Lowell’s recovery, he has been dedicated to expanding the reach of 12 step communities by bringing meetings into prisons, detox facilities, and clinical treatment centers. This ongoing work resulted in the 2018 opening of Taylor Made Retreat.
    JD Kalmenson: Moderator and Host
    Kalmenson is the CEO/Founder of Renewal Health Group, a family of addiction treatment centers, and Montare Behavioral Health, a luxury brand of mental health treatment facilities in Southern California. Kalmenson is a skilled facilitator, teacher, counselor, and speaker. His diverse experience as a rabbi, chaplain, and CEO has inspired his passion and deep understanding of the necessity of effective mental health treatment and long-term sobriety. Kalmenson is a Yale Chabad Scholar, and has provided chaplain services to prisons, local groups, and remote villages throughout the world.

    Recovering addicts will also tell you they wanted to get off the titanic and DRT was just like changing seats on the titanic - remember you are talking about US - we are the ones to gain your knowledge from

    All you have to do is ask the addicts who have been in DRT and gotten off - they are the ones who know they were deluded and separated from true emotional and spiritual connections - they will tell you the truth about it

      They will distort statistics , their livelihoods depend on it 😮
