I love the fact you took time to rebuild the crx to a decent car.
I also like the sun fade on the sedan, I would never paint it.
Kevin Johnson I had too!! I got the bumpers super cheap but couldn't find all the moldings at the time. I couldn't leave it looking as junky!
I dig the "patina" on the car also, it's never bothered me. I like your vote to not paint it!!
Garage Built Hondas one thing the previous owner of my wagon did was a strip of black vinyl covering the roof. Actually looks really good and covers the fade.
this guy is a legend
This is my first car, and I still have it to this day lol, and I really want to make it look better. So thank you for posting this lol
👍
this video was the reason why I just bought my 91 dx sedan this past week, same color. I found mine on craigslist. I flew out, and drove it 400 miles home. What a test drive! I need to replace a wheel bearing on it, so your other video is going to come in handy.
Excellent, sedans are fun! Sometimes I miss mine too.
@@GarageBuiltHondas aw no way, you sold it?
This is my favorite civic body style. I want one! Super clean car man, love it.
Thanks Ethan!
Perfect. Id daily drive and maintain the crap out of it just like it is. I love that body style/yr. I had the 91 accord for yrs. Manual of course.
It's funny I never really thought about the 4 doors, but seeing yours makes me want one!!! Solid build!
Hell yeah, another convert to sedan loving!!
@Nick & Garage Built . . . the aspect I loved about the 91 Civic DX sedan I had with its four-doors was with placing grocery bags in the rear seat. A two-door sedan made grocery bags placement in the rear seat a bit of a chore, and a strain on my back.
And, the '91 model was a solid-built unit. The rear bumper on mine got clipped by a another motorist, knocking it off the car. I recovered that bumper, and with pounding out some rear quarter-panel bodywork and getting a rear tail-light lens replacement, I bolted the bumper back onto the vehicle; where it passed safety inspections in the years afterwards.
Nick Wetherbee 🇨🇦 here...recheck profile on 89 accord ...slightly larger than prelude of same years, but same profile...Honda life baby!
The car looks perfect Jon. I personally think the faded and missing clear is a good portion of the cars character...it shows the car has not only been around a while, but that it has been used as well. Another top shelf video on a top shelf car. Thanks brother!!!
Thanks Greg! I feel the same affinity you do towards the paint and body, and glad you dig it too!
3rd gear tire chirps with the b16 are always satisfying.
Still has some power! Lol
@@GarageBuiltHondas be what about now 🤣 lol I know if you take care it's still running good.
I sold it back in 2018. About a year ago I spoke to the new owner, his son was still driving it. Probably still runs fine, its a stock b16
Wow. This is believe it or not, my current dream car. Had a 91 crx si and loved it. But now with kids, this car suits my lifestyle. Thanks for sharing.
I can believe it for sure!! Thanks for watching!
I love Hondas of this era! So classic.
Couldn't agree more! Would love to get my hands on a prelude like yours someday. 😀
Garage Built Hondas and you know I want a clean CRX Si!
Someday you'll find the one you can't live without!
The EF sedan will always have a place in my heart; my parents bought one brand new when i was 6. Always wanted to own one and do a B series swap. Maybe one day. I guess I’ll just have to enjoy my S2K lol.
That doesn't sound like a bad compromise having an S2. 😀. You'll love an EF sedan though, I can guarantee it!
Having the same project on queue! Thanks for this inspiration, hope doing still so well!
I had this same car about 20 years ago. Mine was an 88 and came with a stick and it was this same color. I did a few MINOR mods to mine but almost everything you did to this car were upgrades I wanted to make and never got the chance. Would like to see future videos with the paint redone and maybe 16 inch wheels. Nice job. 👍
Thank you!
Clean video, clean car, awesome commentary. Kept it simple.
Thank Derrick!
Son of a cigarette!! This sedan is CLEAN!!! Mint!! Love it!!!! 👍 Glad you de-riced the crx and made it look good again!!!
Great video dude! It's nice to see an ef sedan that isn't ridiculously stanced out. You're engine bay is so clean as well!
Thanks Hapkin, going to try to do a little more cleaning up in there too, some new parts and tidied up a little!
I've always loved the EF sedan.. don't really see them modded in Australia, if at all actually. So sick!
Thank you!!
I friend of mine had this kind of civic, same body but straight White...and it was AWD,6speed manual(it had Low1st, then 1st 2nd 3rd etc). I reckon it had the D15b motor because the carb/air cleaner faces the firewall. Was a cool car JDM bring out some unique models. Love to get my hands on one,
New Zealand import laws are soo relaxed here.
My first car was a 91 Honda Dx sedan same color blue!!!!! then My second car I got a 91 Honda Lx sedan that one was white , now I drive a red 89 Si hatch, I miss my sedan Tho!!!!!!!!!!!!Can’t wait to come across a Ex model!!!, this video makes me want one again now!!!!
I've seen a few auto EX's in my area lately. You'll find one, just keep about $1200-1500 ready and it'll be yours!
Your EF sedan is just gorgeous along with your other collections of cars. keep it up sir; this is the best you tube site.
Love to hear it, that means a lot to me!!
Great work man! A lot of people say they're Honda guys, but you show love to the models most wouldn't. Cleanest sedan in El Paso! I still remember meeting you for the first time in that McDonald's parking lot to talk my my Accord transmission and saw you roll up in this thinking how clean it was.
Seems like yesterday, but was 2015 right?!?
Garage Built Hondas I believe so... Time flies indeed. Love the vids man, we appreciate all the hard work!
Love these cars cuz I remember them brand new. I was a kid but all that nostalgia!!
I wish I would've been into them back then and seen them on the lots and all over the streets. That'd be a sight to see!
I really appreciate the videos and content you put out just makes me want to wrench harder always inspiring the season is coming soon here and it will be my first time in years I can't wait to hit the tracks
Thanks Will! You're going to love the track, most fun ever!
Even though I am an EF fan, through and through, I have always disliked the sedan. And, there is an exception to every rule. I love THIS sedan! I am convinced that you're a magician.
Glad to be able to turn your 👎 into a 👍!! That makes me happy!!
I love the EF. I had an 88 DX maroon. My kids grew up in it! Long story on how I lost it.
Man I'd love to have a clean sedan like that. So killer. I have a 3M spoiler on the S2K, 3 years now still holding strong!
I think the sun might lift mine this summer. Haha! 2 years now so far, we'll see how high the temps get this summer!
It was one car a wish I never sold.. It looks amazing keep videos coming
Thanks Felix!!
You attention to detail is A1! Keep up the hard work and all the awesome content!
Thank you so much Taylor!!
Very nicely done, just managed to get a sedan 1.3 totally stock in grey can’t wait to start making it look good like yours!
Awesome, good luck!
Jon I forgot to add,I have a 1992 EG Civic with a swapped JDM B16A SiR motor with the Civic SiR badges on the rear drop trunk and running Konig Hellium wheels 15X6.5 with 205/50/15's,I've had my car now for 20yrs and still Loving it.
That is amazing to hear! 20 years! I love the heliums, too bad they never made them in a 15x7!
Garage Built Hondas yeah that's what was disappointing that it only came in the size I mentioned, but with going with a wider tire made a difference when I would take corners on the Apex turns so I'm still satisfied, with the new generation kids doing that wide rim with stretched out tires & negative camber like the wheels could come off never liked that stance look,I'm more of that JDM tuner guy with alot of functions to where if I wanted to do autocross racing or circuit.
I'm the same way, why build it if you can't drive it hard?! 😎
Super clean, i love it. The paint is a really nice colour and the car must be a great daily driver.
It's fun, and power windows and locks are the best! Haha
So nice, really tasteful build. I long for cars to look like this again.
Thank you so much for the comment!
your Civic sedan is so clean and love the ride height looks very functional great job, this is the kind of clean look I like Bravo.
Thank man!! I love how it looks too, I'm pretty darn happy with it!
Bro, you inspire me to collect older gen Hondas. Keep up the good work man.
Thank you, I hope maybe one day you will!
Loving all the EFs. I miss my 88 base hatch (4 spd), and 89 lx 5 spd sedan. I wish I had kept them, but for now running with 92 Integra RS for my DD.
Nothing wrong with a DA still, just like an EF but more power! 💪
Garage Built Hondas, true, but I would love to pick up an EF Si hatch at some point :)
You should, you'll love it!
Jon, off topic. I am in the process of replacing the speedometer cable on my B18A. I can't seem to reinstall the rubber boot over the clip on the transmission side of the speedometer cable. Is there a trick to it or people just install the clip and forget about the rubber boot?
It's only to protect from water and dust, after the clip is on, just slide it down until it touches the clip. That's only as far as I put them down.
Man you got the best video out right now keep it up love it real JDM Style 🔰💯
I'm glad I have your vote of confidence Arthur!! I keep trying to make better and more entertaining videos!
in reference to the exhaust, you can actually use the Yonaka exhaust system for the EF hatchbacks. The only thing is its about 3 inches short in the back, so it doesnt actually stick out of the back like stock. But all the mounting points and everything else is just fine and bolts right up. And if sounds awesome. Im currently using one on my 1991 EF EX
Cool, nice!
I grew up in the 80's and 90's and to me...I've owned integra, legend,330 and countless other cars..I'm 40 and I thought what car if I could own would I want and I want to come back to this civic..put a system in it,drop it and put on daytons or mclain's is the ultimate car for me..its most beautiful car built..small and still fit people
Do it man, you'll love it. I unfortunately sold this when we built a new home 2 years ago, but I started working on another one that I'm goin to keep more simple for cruising daily duties. They're fun, pretty inexpensive to keep on the road too. czcams.com/video/8XcuwmzzJFA/video.html
Very nice build. Great video.
Dude! Solid man! I love hondas! Glad to see a fellow enthusiast!
Thanks man, it means a lot!
8 years? That's incredible. I just passed 6 years on my first hatchback Si, but it's spent a lot of time in the garage
Yup, thought about selling it a couple times, but I was only 10% entertaining that fact. I think that was on days when I was pissed off at the cars. Lol
I actually sold mine when I graduated college to buy a new car, and then bought it back 6 months later lol
clean daily! I'm still sorting out the 89 (Burgundy LX) I got in December. I still haven't put the gold GBH decal on, but I will as soon as the exterior is de-chromed and polished up.
As alway GREAT CHANNEL!!!
Nice, would love to see it!
Love your videos man very budget inmind builds and done right.
Appreciate it, budget is the only way I can be into cars. 😀
Beautiful build!
Love it, this keeps me inspired to keep on wrenching the train wreck of a civic in my driveway.
Let's do this!! Keep with it, gotta stay patient and keep working on it!
At the end, I said to myself "man, Jon really should have done a pull instead of just pulling away so chill." And then surprise, surprise we got to hear the b16 roar.. thanks, dude! Awesome vid!!
Also, I'd love to see a new coat of paint on this EF.. I think it would make you appreciate the car even more. Start a GoFundMe, Jon.. I have the first $20 bucks waiting for ya if you do 👍
So glad you loved it, was hoping you would!!! Maybe I'll check it out! You could also purchase $20 in GBH decals? Throw them on whatever you want too! 👍
Yeah mann! Digging the sedan! But it takes time to earn that patina! Looks awesome as is! Great lil whip! No paint is my vote also! Good stuff Jon! Coming thru"QUE NICE!" STYLE!👍✌👊😎
2 for no paint, love it!!
My father used to have that car. Its nice man
Thank you!!
Clean build man. Good work.
Thanks Randy!
This is my favorite car out of all of your cars and I really like your truck as well that's what got me to your channel
👍💪
That's clean I love it ! Especially the fitment
Thank you!!
You are an awesome car builder,. Really enjoy your videos. Cheers Greg From New Zealand
Thanks for that comment Greg!!! I try my best!
beautiful car sooooo clean and simple 👌🏽
The perfect daily.
Almost..AC
The perfect non-summer daily. 😁
@@GarageBuiltHondas What u mean??
No AC
This car is brings back so much memories. I miss my car so much. Don't miss the water leaking through up by the windshield though. Every time it rained there was a puddle of water on the driver side. Lol
Haha, old car life can be a PITA sometimes. Maybe a new windshield would've fixed it, and maybe it's time to get another one!
Garage Built Hondas ; it definitely appreciate this video. Just last week I ran into a guy that had. A DA Si from back in the day also. We were reminiscing about the good old days.
Those days are still here, we just gotta keep them going! Me and my EF homies in town pretty much keep it going for us. I feel like EF/DA guys are pretty hard core about their cars and not straying. Lol
Always cool to geek out with GBH. Loved those sedans from day 1. I'd love a white anniversary model and drop some k power inside, might need some creative hood fabbing there, but for me this little four door would make the coolest k-swap. I dig other people's turbo rigs but for some reason I dont get into them personally. Old school turbos really dont suit my driving style very well, even the new turbos I find I'm still driving around them all the time, unless its got a modern paddle-shift box. Problem is, when it has paddles, I end up switching into auto at some point and never get particularly swayed into switching back. Enjoy your videos very much, very well done. Congratulations.
Thank you Chris. I'd love some additional power one day but since I just love maintaining and having fun it's not the most important thing for me.
And that philo-reality is the best part of your vids. Because they're not about "MORE!", they're about less. Much respect.
Thank you man, means a lot! 🙏
I had a DX back in the day, same color. Good little car. No problems.
This is totally what i want when im done with my da, looking clean!
Keep on working on it! You'll get there and I'd love to see it!
🇨🇦 here...boy...she sweet...almost done in my eyes...sits nice, love the paint, rear spoiler right size... motor is done "enuff"... spoiler can be spot tacked with black silicone, tape off and trim that 3 m tape lol...I would put front lip, side signal lights and slight fender flare-rolled out not plastic flares...don't forget removable roof rack for family trips lol...nice man!
Thanks man, I miss it. Got another I'll be working on soon.
Nice and clean keep them rolling🤙
I'm gonna try my best!!
Looks so damn awesome, hoping to build mine someday like this
Take your time, start now. This one has been never-ending for the last 7 years. I don't think it'll stop any time soon either! 😀
I love watching your vides. Im a huge fan of ef civic and cb7 accord. Right now im iso of a 92-93 cb7 ex coupe its going to be my final build.
Final?!? That's it? I feel like it never ends. Haha
This is what its all about. Brilliant build
Thank you Jrod!
Love your channel,so much information. Thanks.
Thank you for commenting!
Its clean as Heck.. Love the original interior
Thanks!!
Side note...I was thinking too as welll...led lights everywhere...updates to today's standards and amazingly updates car a few years...peace
Very clean and simple, I love it!
Thank you!
I love that color 😍
Living the dream.
Lol, trying to with me and my old @$$ cars!
You sir are an EF god thank you for doing what you do
So much appreciation for that comment Tristin!! Trying to be a good example for our EF community!!
LOVE THE BUILD MAN! I HAVE A BUILT ONE MYSELF AND IN TEXAS AS WELL!!! 🤙
Nice! I miss it sometimes. I have another but it needs a lot of love to get back to this level.
God damn it Jon! Now I want an Ef sedan to go with my ek hatch and em1 si!
I think that'd be a good addition to that mix! An older square body to go with those 6th gens would be cool!
Jealous! Makes me miss my b20v Ef sedan!
Good work brother!
Thanks so much!!!
I've always did liked ef Civics especially for a project build.
If you've never had one, you should try one if ever given a chance. Really fun cars to drive.
Love this civic very clean
Thank you! I'll be working on this sedan soon also!
I just wish I lived closer so i could bring my First gen Integra over for a side by side shoot. Same color and everything.
That'd be really cool to see!!
Braden we need more da3's out in the wild!...✌👍👊
If only you guys were closer to the west coast. We got DA3's all over.
Old design. ..nice design....
Simple n beautiful...
Thank you!
Very good looking civic!
Thank you!
That 91 Civic LX Four-door looks like it has been modified to the performance level of a '91 Acura Integra sedan; but with lower insurance premiums since it is branded as a Honda.
Prior to my getting the 91 Civic DX four-door, I test drove an Integra. Acceleration was peppier than the Civic, its automatic transmission shifted well, BUT, I noticed the ride was stiffer than the Civic. Knowing that the new car I was going to buy would be subjected to 500+ miles roadtrips on the interstates, I wanted a vehicle with a soft ride, which the Honda offered.
A few years later the Civic I bought had its rear suspension slightly tweaked, giving it the handling characteristics of the Integra, but still retained the soft ride of a Civic sedan.
Looks sick bro keep up the good work man love your videos
I really appreciate your comment, thanks so much!
Garage Built Hondas hey bro like how hard is it to swap a motor if you never done something like that in the past?
It's really not that hard. There are a lot of small things that make it easier with experience but it's not hard. If you're mechanically inclined that helps and being patient is even better. You'll definitely learn a lot but all the info is readily available.
nice build man 👍
Thanks Jonathan!
This a definition of the perfect daily.
👍😉
I am an EF fan and I Love this EF such a beautiful n Clean Car 😍😘😎👍
Thank you so much!
Hi John been busy working on my sedan waiting for NGK parts to arrive starter in but need to temporarily pull back out to repair some issues with wire harness progress looking good so far ....but came across a helpful tip of some no start issues even if electrical seems OK ....and starter alternator batter relays check out to be good and grounds are good also ....well a switch called a starter inhibitor switch can be the reason and simple low cost solution.... Cost $30.78 on amazon its also named the clutch starter switch mounts just like a brake neutral switch on a bracket above the pedal arms I don't know if this is on other models but my 1990 civic sedan lx has this I believe my 91 hatchback crx and 86 crx had this but wow what a mystery to my madness wondering what was causing my no start no crank issue the nylon button bushings work well but installed JDM fender bolts instead seemed more secure than replacing it with another nylon bushing that can wear out or fall off easily with shoes rubbing it off by accident ....its an easy install and wow a major stress relief ....thanks to all your videos and advice to always retrace your steps helped me figure this out thank bro your advice was a life saver happy 4th of July 2018 to you and your family n friends bang bang bang bang Texas six shooters and fireworks shows please give a honorable hand salute to all out troops and fallen hero's including those of the 911 tragedy ..well seeyah back to my project my parts just arrived lol and good luck on the new home and the move
Glad to help out! I'm always hoping the tips make sense and can help anyone out! You have a safe holiday also!!
I had a DX model of the same year with the same paint. The car was a pleasure to drive on the open highway, country roads, or around town. The rear suspension was slightly tweaked to lower it an inch or two, with negative camber, which made it handle like a sports car in the turns.
After 235K miles of driving, over 21 years, something in the front axle broke and I called it a day with the car. Sinking money into repairing the drive-train made no sense, as the electricals were getting suspect, the radiator needed replacing, same with the brakes; the steering felt worn; so I got rid of it. The Honda mechanic that got it, ended up sinking thousands in parts to get it running like new again; as the engine and transmission were near the end of its life.
The few deficiencies the 91 Civic had: The font disc brakes could get used up easily, as I had the front rotors turned and replaced several times. The engine motor-mount broke three times in the 21 years I had the vehicle, but it was a small piece of metal. The top of the radiator was made of plastic and prone to cracking at the mounting point. In its 18th year, the electrical main relay shorted-out on extremely hot days, so the car would not start until the coolness of the evening set in. The CV boots were placed close to the exhaust pipe, where the heat of the exhaust pipe would damage the CV boots, requiring replacing them several times.
But, overall, the car was remarkable! Going into its 21st year/235k miles, the fit of the vehicle was solid and it still rode well. The MacPherson struts were never replaced, as the Honda dealer service department told me they should last the life of the vehicle.
The car sat outdoors, 24/7, for 21 years, and the interior stayed intact with no signs of fraying with the upholstery or dashboard. All the levers, switches, dials, and handles stayed intact, too, for the 21 years I had it. Whereas I can recall the better built domestic and foreign vehicles from the 1960s and '70s would all have frayed interiors/dashboards; with broken levers, switches, and handles after 10 years of use.
The engine never leaked a drop of oil, and with the use of synthetic oil with scheduled oil changes, it never burned a drop, either. But, I have to say that with the amount of oil changes the car was subjected to, the screw threads on the oil pan got worn, necessitating an minuscule-oversized threaded oil pan plug to compensate for the worn screw threads on the oil pan.
The important aspect of having a vehicle to survive that long with no major issues: Being able to financially afford an every 15K mile checkup of the vehicle with a trusted repair shop; as a tuneup, with engine valve adjustments, checking the CV boots, the brakes, and the engine motor mount; really does wonders to head-off future problems.
How much would you sell a good 1991 honda civic Dx sedan for?
Depends paint, miles, work needed, etc. There are a lot of factors especially location.
@Johnny Loc . . . How much to sell a 91 model? That's a hard one to call.
Just as Garage Built Hondas wrote, it depends on a lot of factors of wear, tear, and other aspects of deterioration. Some items of wear and tear are obvious, others not so revealing.
I'll suggest to check online sources of what other ppl are selling them for. And when seeing those prices, factor in the dickering/haggling of the price . . . as there's that age-old conflicts of: The seller desiring to sell the vehicle for top dollar; while the buyer wants the lowest price. So, that means some give-and-take of pricing until an agreeable price is reached.
@@GarageBuiltHondas ah okay my neighbor is giving me one for free that has been sitting in his garage for as long as I've been alive, its interior is like perfect some rust nothing crazy, with the only problem being the idol runs a little high. Probably just gona end up keeping it and using it as a daily

Nice, those chargers are fun.
@@GarageBuiltHondas yeah, the only problem is they are very difficult and expensive to get in Croatia. Around $5000 new
I hear you. Its the same here.
