This is my favorite movie ever. I know there are a lot of people who don't like it, but to me there is just something about it. The music, the visuals, the whole messiah plot... It just makes me feel in a place I have been, or will be... at least in my dreams

i saw this movi when i was 11 with my mom who lovd reading the dune books...it was incredible how scared i was in parts, and how consumed i was by the film...paul fighting that robot training machine, those weird rectangular force shields, blue eyes, that guy who had to pet the cat to stay alive, spice sticks, sound guns? It literally blew my mind at the time, and i can still go back and watch it and feel some of those same feelings. Definately a very special movie to me.

Even if his attempt to sum up the two first boooks of Frank Herbert's most famous saga isn't unanimous, should David Lynch be thanked for having dared it, alike Dino de Laurentiis for having allowed it! The music by Toto and Brian Eno, the worms by Carlo Rambaldi, great actors to serve the story, everything in this motion picture is unforgettable! Perhaps because I saw it before reading the books I've never been disappointed by the movie. I was only 13 when it was released and I went in the theater only upon the names of Lynch, who I was venerating since The Elephant Man, my first great and still greatest cinema emotion and Rambaldi, who was one of my heroes since E.T. and the works I believed (like everyone else for when) they had been actually used in an other De Laurentiis production of John Guillermin's '76 King Kong! (The giant automated monkey being indeed a technological failure and finally very few used for the movie itself, but much more for its promotional advertising!).. Huh?! I realize I'm far from the start, as often.. Please accept my apologies! ;)

I have the soundtrack myself but several scores that are featured on this website appear to be longer than mine. The year before in 1983 the Michael Mann film "The Keep" was released and with it came an esoteric masterpiece of a soundtrack done by Tangerine Dream of which I have! But I have always paid credence to this soundtrack. Such warm peaceful scores - most notably the Prophecy Theme which started on here at roughly the 2:34 clip but stopped at 4:19.
80's Rock!!! Good Job!! Kudos To You!

I love this film, and the soundtrack. When I was a little boy this cover art looked different to me. I still remember Paul and Chani standing that exact same way though. I just thought that the spaceships on the left and right side was a huge brown side wall, there was like an opening behind Paul and Chani that you could walk to, and the blue planet behind Chani was a small green planet. I do remember the colors on this cover art looking the same though, like the reddish, pinkish sky in the background.

I agree. For what it's worth, Lynch did the best job he could with only one film. Had he been able to make the film into a trilogy or even in two parts, more might've been accomplished (character development, integration of more story, etc.) The design and music of Lynch's film is what does it for me every time I watch the extended edition; he created something so unique. While the sci-fi channel miniseries had more time to flesh out the story and characters, Lynch's version is a true original.

Frank Herbert has gone on record as actually liking the movie very much. I haven't read the book but personally I thought the only problem with the film was that it skimmed over large portions of the story (mostly the bits where Paul is training the desert people), so it could have really done with being a three hour movie. Aside from that the music is great, and Toto is one of my favourite bands.

And if we count all sequels an prequels written by herbert jr. we have material for netflix or hbo making tv series that will run for next 30 years... (Oh... that would be great!).

@gintherlover Note that this movie is based off a book published in 1965. Politics and religion are both apart of Dune, but only a part. The main character, Paul Atriedes was actually created to make fun of the superhero syndrome during the 1960's. I don't think Herbert's own religious beliefs have anything to do with Dune. He is a Buddhist, though raised Catholic.

The Fremen or freemen were descended from zensunni wanderers who originally worshipped BuddhaAllah. You also had the zenshite. You also had the Orange Catholic Bible. Herbert's books following the novel Dune and the prequels done from his notes (his son and a coauthor did the prequel novels) showed that certain Earth religions had mutated and combined with other religions. Orange Catholics meaning the Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholics had put aside their differances.
