      it's about love AND responsibility.
Frankenstein was responsible for the creature and yet took no responsibility for it or it's actions, while the creature had no one to love him despite desperately roaming the earth looking for it.

Vastly underrated film, deserves far more credit than it got. Great performances by an international cast (especially by DeNiro as the creature) , production values, locations, and this music score by Patrick Doyle.

I don't get why this movie was so poorly received. Sure, the old black-and-white version with Igor is more fun, and more iconic, but this movie *VERY* accurately followed the source material. It captured all the romanticism emotions from the 1800s that Mary and Percy tried to capture in writng, and had a killer soundtrack to couple.
I mean come on, 2:56 is badass and everyone knows it.

@Spyflugan91 I don't think people hate it. It just hasn't gotten much attention. It's the most underrated movie I've seen. Granted, it's not scary in the horror movie sense, but that's the whole point. The novel was scary in that it presented the situation of technology going too far and creating something beyond anyone's control, and the film does a fantastic job of conveying that.

    • @hobomike6935

We read it, *and* watched the movie while I was in college for one of our class meetings in Brit Lit II and I feel like out of all the Frankensteins, this one was the most faithful to the source material. It accurately portrayed the romantic-era writing that Mary Shelly and her husband did.
It's not quite as much fun as the old black-and-white version with the "Igor" character, but it was still a very emotionally wrenching and devastating movie and the soundtrack was beautiful and powerful.

It was nominated for many Oscars- Best Actor: Kenneth Branagh Best Supporting Actor- Robert DeNiro Best Supporting Actress- Helena Bonham-Carter, Best Makeup, Best Score- Patrick Doyle, and Best Screenplay, but it didn't win ANY awards! Now I might not be a big fan of horror movies, but Doyle's score for this film is absolutely breathtaking and should have won the Oscar in 1994.

From the begining to 1:08 and from 2:57 to the end are my tow most favorite parts of this song. I like the first part a little more because there is just something so haunting about it, yet enchanting as well. It kind of shows the rage and angst of the Creature, yet his sorrow for not belonging with humans as well.
The second part is a bit more frantic yet adds in the first parts theme/parts of the theme from the first part keeping it haunting yet exciting. At 3:38 of the second part, is epic!

If you like Doyle's Gothic music you should try listening his score for Harry Potter and the aGoblet of Fire. There's an astounding romantic piece called "Harry in Winter" and then many dark and spectacular passages in "Voldemort" and "The Dark Mark", the introduction of the latter being a feasr played by London Symphony Orchestra

If I made an adaptation of the novel, I’d keep it faithful to the novel, with the only differences being that it takes place not in the 18th century, but the present day, and it would take place in the United States. The creature also wouldn’t be hideous, but he would be like Hannibal Lecter (Brilliant, charming, and articulate... but sociopathic and dangerous.)
Basically, Captain Robert Walton would be a police officer interrogating Victor, who recounts his story. The creature would be created by cloning. Plus, as a mythology gag, Hank Clerval’s middle name would be Igor.
It would also go by the alternate title “The Modern Prometheus”.

Yep. Still in all fairness I liked most of the cast, the costumes, the sets, the effects (I'm not much for CGI but it worked for that) as I said the music in Eragon, but the screenplay and direction were terrible. The music is a saving grace though. The positives go for this and Bram Stoker's Dracula too. While not perfect and with a few mis-casts, both are visual marvels and do follow the story more when not adding their own twists. The music in both films is great as well.
