I love Next Generation and Voyager is my all time favourite Star Trek series, but Star Trek at its height was movies 2-4. Their perfect mix of sci-fi and spiritualism, humour and heart, militarism and rebelliousness was never matched in the later shows.

Beautiful. Wrath of Khan was the best of the series, but I enjoyed the Search for Spock. It's so touching on such a basic level -- the lengths that Kirk goes to in order to bring back his dearest friend. I want a friendship like theirs -- one that transcends even the finality of death, that defies logic. Beautiful.

When I originally saw the previous film in the theatre, when Spock dies, I just lost it. I bawled and cursed, mumbling, gnashing my teeth..... I was a mess. People were shushing me to be quiet, they were laughing at me, I was so embarrassed. I was frustrated for the rest of the day. What will we do now that Spock is dead! ! Why did they have to kill him off! I was livid, and so very pissed off, I was literally beside myself with grief. I then thought, they're pulling something here, a fast one, yeah..... that's right, sure. I just kept telling myself that. How ridiculous is that! I'm just a knucklehead fanboy, for sure. When Spocks 'katra' is reintrodued to his new body In this film at the end, he realizes who he is and who his friends are....... the look of recognition on his face as reality dawns on him, his friends converging on him, saying hello....... I lost it again and became over emotional, and got all weepy. This is the good stuff people, they don't make 'em like this anymore!

like a passing of the torch from spock to the enterprise a symbol that the body is just a vessel that carries our spirit in life, is just as much as the enterprise carried them through space and that one must make sacrifices to save another. kirk knew his actions to save spock would cost him his rank and career. his actions in St4 is what saved his career and earned him another chance to captain a starship. in reality of course he still would have been stripped.

Kirk: We are assembled here today to pay final respects to our honored dead. And yet it should be noted that in the midst of our sorrow, this death takes place in the shadow of new life, the sunrise of a new world; a world that our beloved comrade gave his life to protect and nourish. He did not feel this sacrifice a vain or empty one, and we will not debate his profound wisdom at these proceedings. Of my friend, I can only say this: of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most... human.

Kirk: USS Enterprise Captain's Personal Log: With most of our battle damage repaired we're almost home. Yet I feel uneasy and I wonder why? Perhaps it is the emptiness of this vessel. Most of our training crew have been reassigned. Lt. Saavik and my son David are exploring the Genesis planet which he helped create and Enterprise feels like a house with all the children gone. No more empty even then that. The death of Spock is like an open wound. It seem that I have left the most noblest part of myself back there on that newborn planet.

so i have to disagree with you as ST2 3 and 4 are a trilogy they tell a dramtic story of life death and Rebirth not just for spock, but also the enterprise crew and ultimately the enterprise herself. i dont feel that it took away from the beauty of spocks death of the selflessness that he showed for his comrades and that same selflessness they returned to him when they found out he could still live. to me there is nothing beautiful about how we can die, only how we can live.

@mongoose704 Copies portions of STII main theme note for note? It's a six and a half-minute theme which has a roughly one minute section in the middle with the main Star Trek movie theme which turns into the STII theme and then the original STIII theme resumes. So it references STII, since III starts exactly where II left off and was also composed by Horner but it has a very distinct, memorable theme of its own. The end credits for III did use the entire main theme of II.

@Ashenion22 i am calm, and didnt make a assumption...im 31 year old star trek DIEHARD.. The main theme is different for every movie of the startrek movie franchise. as you replied to me saying Funny how thats the main theme from startrek 2 and i know they sound nothing alike, i can only interpret that as sarcasm on your part, i dont care if you insult me , just expect it back. if i wanted to insult your intelligence, Id start with how you spelled it (intelligents) in your previous remark :)

The Academy Awards has goofed(downright stupidity) for so many years by ignoring many Trek themes.
