    Me and my mom tried the balloon part for an extra credit project, except when we were doing a practice run we used an old balloon, and it burst; spraying baking soda and vinegar everywhere. I even got some vinegar on my wrist, which I immediately ran under cold water because it stung. When we did the real thing, I quickly moved the bottle into the sink so that way it would contain the spillage if it did pop.

    CO2 extinguishes the flame because fire requires oxygen and CO2 creates a CO2 envelope around the flame and cuts off the Oxygen supply which extinguishes the flame
    that's why when you blow the candles from a long distance the flame keeps going because you just shoved more oxygen towards the flame.

  • @kimsmith1746
    @kimsmith1746 Před 10 měsíci

    Any excessive amount of gas can suffocate a flame. You blow gently on a flame to really get it going. Funnily enough, you are also blowing CO2 on the flame...blow harder, you extingush the flame.

  • @Navjotsingh12960
    @Navjotsingh12960 Před 10 měsíci

    You can also bubble the CO² through lime water.After a while its white colour will fade due to excessive passing of carbon dioxide❤

    Technically vinegar (HC2H3O2) and baking sodium (NaHCO3) make sodium acetate (NaC2H3O2) and carbonic acid (H2C03). However carbonic acid is unstable at room temperature and atmospheric pressure and decomposes into co2 and water.

    • @scibear9944
      @scibear9944 Před 10 měsíci

      I think you might be getting baking soda mixed up with baking POWDER. Soda is one chemical, sodium bicarbonate, whereas baking powder is soda mixed with a powdered acid (usually malic, tartaric or citric). When baking, if the recipe has an acidic ingredient, like lemon juice, vinegar or sour cream, soda is sufficient. But if the recipe doesn't have acidic ingredients, you need baking powder to get "lift" for your cookies or cake.
      I'm not sure what you mean by "natrium." This is the Latin word for sodium. There's a mineral called "natron," which is sodium CARBONATE (not BIcarbonate). It's very bitter, caustic, and poisonous, so it's not used in baking these days.
