Me and my mom tried the balloon part for an extra credit project, except when we were doing a practice run we used an old balloon, and it burst; spraying baking soda and vinegar everywhere. I even got some vinegar on my wrist, which I immediately ran under cold water because it stung. When we did the real thing, I quickly moved the bottle into the sink so that way it would contain the spillage if it did pop.
This is actually what I learned in 2nd grade and it was fun doing experiments like making volcanoes with the baking soda❤ Glad to see it bring memories again
CO2 extinguishes the flame because fire requires oxygen and CO2 creates a CO2 envelope around the flame and cuts off the Oxygen supply which extinguishes the flame that's why when you blow the candles from a long distance the flame keeps going because you just shoved more oxygen towards the flame.
Technically vinegar (HC2H3O2) and baking sodium (NaHCO3) make sodium acetate (NaC2H3O2) and carbonic acid (H2C03). However carbonic acid is unstable at room temperature and atmospheric pressure and decomposes into co2 and water.
Any excessive amount of gas can suffocate a flame. You blow gently on a flame to really get it going. Funnily enough, you are also blowing CO2 on the flame...blow harder, you extingush the flame.
C02 does extinguish fires, but the question is what type of fire? can it handle kerosene, or alcohol. how about electrical ones. is it more potent in the kitchen compared to dumping salt or baking soda?
Heyy!! There's also a new product formed which is sodium acetate. I tried this experiment and the balloon had something inside it too 😭 it was indeed sodium acetate
When you mix a little baking sofa and a little lemon juice and drink a little shot of that relieves you from massive acid feeling and it doesn’t have side effects like any of tge anti-acids pills in the market
The only way to pour the CO2 is if it is more dense than the air. But if it’s more dense than the air, how is the CO2 inflated in the ballon and not the displaced air from the bottle?
Does vinegar not deactivate the backing soda or something? I remember reading somewere that u need to activate natrium with vinegar, when baking and baking soda only needs water and is already activated? If someone is a baker or knows more about this please help😅❤
I think you might be getting baking soda mixed up with baking POWDER. Soda is one chemical, sodium bicarbonate, whereas baking powder is soda mixed with a powdered acid (usually malic, tartaric or citric). When baking, if the recipe has an acidic ingredient, like lemon juice, vinegar or sour cream, soda is sufficient. But if the recipe doesn't have acidic ingredients, you need baking powder to get "lift" for your cookies or cake. I'm not sure what you mean by "natrium." This is the Latin word for sodium. There's a mineral called "natron," which is sodium CARBONATE (not BIcarbonate). It's very bitter, caustic, and poisonous, so it's not used in baking these days.
people mix baking soda with vinegar to get pesticides and herbicides out of their fresh fruits and vegetables...is it a bad idea? Some people use baking soda alone.
I just feel like this should come with a disclaimer to not breath in the gas ... because I'm an adult who is fully aware that breathing in CO2 like this can lead to poisoning, unconciousness and death ... but I still really have the urge to breathe in that balloon like helium to see what happens 😂😂😂
I know its a good fire extinguisher but please make it clear that its only for experiments... If there's unfortunately got a huge fire than people start rushing for vinegar and baking soda .. 😂😂😂😂😂
“THERE’S A FIRE MOM!”
Mom: “GET THE BAKING SODA, VINEGAR, AND A BALOON, ALSO A TUBE!”
ON IT!
We r out of vinegar!! 😢
Come on ! Why the vinegar?
I heard baking soda was a good alternative if you don't have a fire extinguisher because of the co2 content in it
QUICK
THE FIRE IS NEAR THE DISHWASHER
not me thinking "oh man i gotta get an adult to supervise so i can try it" while im 28 😂
Finally someone that understands that“💀,😭” are NOT laughing emojis
ive learned more from her than science class
How??
@@cyancyborg1477most teachers are just trash
You need to go to another school because your school is failing you miserably.
That's a really sad example of the education system. Can't have science if religion is the focus.
@@Ze.Drucifurr Yep, stop Project 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣5️⃣
Woah that's amazing you deserve way more subs
(fire burning down an entire building)
You: (holding a single, small balloon)
For a fire that small, I think I can use the carbon dioxide from my mouth to put out the fire.😂
I wish I had a teacher like that
This brings me back to the episode of the Magic School Bus with baking soda and the vinegar experiment
Ok, subscribing.... We all need a teacher like you.
We did a lab just like this in my 8th grade science class, one of my favorites!
*sees fire*
"Hold up, lemme' get my... vinegar and baking soda."

My mom: ASH HURRY UP THE HOUSE IS ON FIRE YOU DUMBAS-
Me: HOLD UP IM MAKING A FIRE EXTINGUISHER 💪👹💢
My mom: WTF--???😭
This was our chemistry group project (without the extinguishing part)
This is actually what I learned in 2nd grade and it was fun doing experiments like making volcanoes with the baking soda❤ Glad to see it bring memories again
I didn't know it could do that! my chem teacher failed me 😂
I actually learned this in my class, at least I know some *extra stuff* now
I realize that ring anywhere! “You just have to experience it”
This is why I love my chemistry teacher, she showed us all of those experiments on our first classes in seventh grade
me panicking finding the baking soda and vinegar while the house burns down
Amazing teacher!!! 💯💯💯💯
Merry Christmas 😇
I NEED you as my teacher!
Science Project 101....I learned this in 3rd Grade.... Can't believe A lot of you didn't Learn this in Elementary School 😎😁
Brilliant explanation
Definitely doing this with my son this weekend
Wow🤯
Why do i get this a day after my science fair 😭😭😭
CO2 extinguishes the flame because fire requires oxygen and CO2 creates a CO2 envelope around the flame and cuts off the Oxygen supply which extinguishes the flame
that's why when you blow the candles from a long distance the flame keeps going because you just shoved more oxygen towards the flame.
Wow…that was cool
"me blowing out the candle" ok.
Wow so nice I will try.
I remember this experiment!
Wow!
This chick is so fun and awesome, she reminds me of Bill nye the science guy! Science Rules!
I did this activity in 7th grade for my school
That's something most of the people already, I have read the instructions on fire extinguisher. One is foam and one is carbon diaxide.
I did this for my science project in school
You blinded me. With science.
You can also bubble the CO² through lime water. After a while its white colour will fade due to excessive passing of carbon dioxide❤
You just covered a semester of science in 13 seconds
Did this experiment for my science exhibition ❤ the balloon thing hehe

Bro speaking at a new level
YO SHE POURED AIR 🤯

Soda-Acid fire extinguisher works on the same principle....but Acid used might be different ie sulphuric acid or Hydrochloric acid
I use it to clean kitchen surface
The funny thing is with a flame that small if she had just blown it up normally, it would have still blown right out.
C02 does extinguish fires, but the question is what type of fire? can it handle kerosene, or alcohol. how about electrical ones. is it more potent in the kitchen compared to dumping salt or baking soda?
Dont be surprised when their is a fire and you see me holding baking soda and vinegar
Next time there’s a fire, I will release CO2 from my dragon mouth lol 😂
Good to show children how a volcano works and you invented a way to blow up balloons easily.
What to do when there is a really really small fire.
One missing fact is that CO2 is more dense than air which is why it’s possible to transfer and pour it onto the flame
My house just burned to the ground was too slow trying to find everything to put it out
Eye brown are everything
Oh, so that's why you can use them to bake cakes.
Next time there is a wild fire we can do this
Me in secondary school thought only lime water can do it
I'm just wondering.. if I'll have a balloon, vinegar and baking soda on hand.. as when the fire starts 🧐
your an amazing teacher, I am a college student but got engaged and felt like an excited highschooler again.
Heyy!! There's also a new product formed which is sodium acetate. I tried this experiment and the balloon had something inside it too 😭 it was indeed sodium acetate
She got the discount brows on yoworld
My house burned down before I could make one big enough for the fire ):
"Try it tourself with adult supervision."
I'm 33. I have built-in adult supervision. 😤
Can I use a glass if I don't have graduated cylinder
What is the ratio of everything?
Would it really work on an actual fire?

I dint have time to do all that if my house is on fire.
We did that experiment at school science
Kids- DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME. THIS WILL NOT PUT OUT A FIRE! But definitely do the rest of the experiment 😊
Wow, thats interesting
I did this experiment in ninth in science
Mix them together in a seperate larger bowl ... And transfer it... Voila! No need to make it more complicated and waste time.. be efficient.
❤
Its also a deadly gas. You should never do this indoors and without ventilation.
I am going to seal this into an empty spray bottle to snuff out candles
By the time you get the baking soda , the vinegar the balloon etc etc your house is burnt down to the ground

Nah instead blowing up balloons myself can i just do this? Just minus the letting air out and blowing out a candle
Thsse are the contents of a fire extinguisher cylinder.
people mix baking soda with vinegar to get pesticides and herbicides out of their fresh fruits and vegetables...is it a bad idea? Some people use baking soda alone.
Her: ‘Candle Fire Extinguisher’
Me: Bro what about the carbon dioxide I release 😂
That also happens with normal balloons so I don’t understand the extra steps
I mean..uh..we can just blow? ..
And i know we can't blow it if there is a house buring..but we can't use a baloon+all these ingredients either.
Blowing is easier
What if I take CO2 like a bong hit?
Google Hypoxia

my DIY fire extinguisher: thumb, index finger and a bit of saliva to drown that candle wick.

Everyone knows this is elephant toothpaste mixture right
Wait you can POUR air!? wtheck😅
Average indian 5th graders project😂
Yes thats correct 😂
JUST BLOW THE CANDLE OUT JEEZ 😮
I want to eat baking soda
when you can’t blow
Or you can just blow the candle
Edit : Btw im not trying to hate i would do this for a fun experiment
Girl we don’t need more Cabondioxide 😭
I know its a good fire extinguisher but please make it clear that its only for experiments... If there's unfortunately got a huge fire than people start rushing for vinegar and baking soda .. 😂😂😂😂😂
