Really enjoyed the way you approached this Dale. We can all agree to disagree on personal choices. There is not a chance I could have allowed the “skip” option on family trips. I consider myself a benevolent dictator when it comes to what gets played in the car. If it was up to the kids and the wife it would be rap or pap I’m afraid. Cheers.

I must admit I didn't always obey the 'skip' commands...Rap and Pap would certainly have crept in if I wasn't there to educate the rest of the family...

Like @electricfishfan7159, I found this video in my CZcams recommendations. I've rarely encountered people who so closely share my taste in classic rock as @gatefold33 and those making comments. It's both eerie and serendipitous. Thanks for running the Channel. It isn't often that you realize there are others much like yourself.

Thanks there are quite a few like-minded music fans out there in youtube land but also some who are different, which keeps it fresh...

Somehow missed this one. I like how people put Brian’s and my thread together. The dynamic works perfectly. I can still listen to all the songs you picked for the songs you still enjoy. Especially Green Onions and All Along the Watchtower. Really good response with how you used the mix cd idea.

Thanks for the mention. I was actually thinking about putting "Brown Eyed Girl" on my overplayed songs that I still love but I understand as it is certainly the most played Van Morrison song. The whole album Dark Side Of The Moon was played so often on the radio that I got tired of it but have gotten over it in recent years for the most part. I still love hearing the Blue Oyster Cult and Elvis Costello songs. Most of the Jam songs were not played on the radio much in the U.S., so I still love them. "A Whiter Shade Of Pale" is a great pick and one that I could have used. Great response Dale.

Thanks Randy - I realise I don't have Whiter Shade of Pale on 45 so am on the look out for a copy now at boot sales...

Thank you for your more positive spin on this Dale. Money has been a popular one. That is my least on the album. Brown eyed girl is a little tiring but I can still handle it. Enter Sandman , still makes me happy but I never played it a ton.

Thanks Steve, I wonder how many years need to pass before I can return to playing Enter Sandman...

Hi Dale - I really like this mashup thing that is happening. I don''t think I will ever tire of Brown Eyed Girl or Penny Lane, but I think I see your point with Losing my Religion and especially with Bohemian Rhapsody and Money. I haven't tired of the tracks you chose for part two either 🙂👍

    • @gatefold33

I wouldn't change station if Brown Eyed Girl or Penny Lane came on the radio but they're certainly no longer playlist go-to material...

    Interesting choices Dale.
Brown Eyed Girl was a karaoke favourite of mine going back..rarely play these days.
If I never heard Bo Rap ever again, I wouldn't lose sleep.
DSOTM usually gets an annual airing and that's ok.
Agree on Don't Fear The Reaper..still like hearing that.
Completely agree with 1990s REM..that said, I've been returning recently to their early albums like Murmur which I've really enjoyed.

Of course I'm sure I could listen to your take on Brown Eyed Girl Rob...I'm starting to explore early REM too and enjoy that more than I thought...

Hi dale I pretty much agree with your choices. You story of having to have agreement on music in the car for me meant I couldn’t listen to REM or the manics for years .. fun video cheers dale 👍

I was able to get away with Motorcycle Emptiness or a Design for Life by the Manics but not much else...

I have no idea the full context of this video because youtube just recommended you to me out of the blue… but my picks as an american 23yo are Jack & Diane, Summer of 69, Stairway to Heaven (boring song fight me), Freefalling, Don’t Stop Believing, Psycho Killer (although I adore the alternate version with strings), and Eye of the Tiger although that hasn’t been aired so often anymore. I’ve always disliked Heart of Glass. Heat of the Moment is on my nerves and it only skirts by off of stolen glory from Only Time Will Tell. My mom hates We Didn’t Start the Fire and says she got so sick of hearing it, probably since she grew up in Germany while it was occupied for a period of her adolescence.
Oh, and during art class for two solid years the station my teacher would put on played that ukelele song… Riptide, like clockwork, which I thought was fine for modern pop music until the 50th time I listened to it.
And for a song I should be fed up with but still groove to every time: Hotel California.
Floyd doesn’t get played much over here so I’ve gotten excited when a local farm shop played Money last month and when Wall pt 2 played on my birthday while I woke up. Gotta take wins when you get them

I think I agree all of your dislike except Psycho Killer and Heart of Glass, which I still enjoy. Hotel California I can take once in a while. I agree it's nice to hear Floyd in an unusual place whilst out and about. Cheers Dale

I groan when Sit Down or Losing my Religion come on the radio - definitely overexposed. Whiter Shade of Pale I never tire of and for me the same goes for Penny Lane.
    Interesting thread!

Fascinating choices In the car I still stick to albums - if I were to choose a playlist of songs I never get fed up with God Only Knows would be top i think and hotel california and samba pa ti with sympathy for the devil and a day in the life and love the one your probably in the top 10 and round it off with bowie's china girl and changes and Peaches En Regalia by Zappa which i adore alongside the night They Drove Old dixie down by The Band followed by Dyla'n's Is Your Love In Vain and Riders On The Storm by The doors

    • @gatefold33
      @gatefold33  Před 11 měsíci

That's a solid list John and most of those I would enjoy even though they've been played a lot. Peaches en Regalia is the only son by Zappa that I think I like...
