- Join me for the first impressions and experiences of my new XLPower Nimbus Nitro while attending the Full Pitch Fest in Waverly Nebraska. Been out of the nitro game for almost a year and so happy to be back with a heli that I know will serve me well. As a bonus, I almost caused the heli to explode, by seemingly not doing a good enough job cleaning out the spindle before threading the screws in... but it seems to be staying together now, and flying awesome!
I built it using the setup from my RAW 580 Nitro (which I sold at IRCHA last year), which includes:
O.S. .55 HZ Hyper
O.S. PowerBoost III
KST X20-1806 Cyclic
KST X20-1035 Tail
KST DS589MG Throttle
iKON2 HD FBL
XGuard Backplate RPM Sensor
XGuard XGlow Pro Glow Ignitor
RotorTech 580mm Ultimate / 93mm
However, I wanted to try it as a true 550 (since that's the size I flew my electric Nimbus at when I had that heli) instead of 580, so I borrowed a set of Rail 556mm from a buddy and tried them out, and knew immediately that'd be how I ended up flying it. Alas, I sold the 580mm Ultimates later that day and kept flying it with the 556mm blades for the rest of the event - it's definitely going to stay as a 550!
The build went smooth, and this is definitely going to be sticking around in my fleet. Thanks for watching ya'll, and we'll see you next time!

That’s what you call a free helicopter! Whew!
Wow Bro, Play the lotto, your a lucky guy.
Right?? 😅
For the servo wire on the frame, just Dremel a relief in the carbon so its not against the servo wiring.
Wow crazy stuff! I wonder how you can even ensure that the thread locker worked. You just have to believe that or you can try to unscrew it slightly to see if it's firm?
Nice! Just got mine going too 😀I noticed the same thing with the tail servo. I think it's pretty cool that it's tucked away in there rather than sticking out like the electric Nimbus, but my KST BLS805X wire just barely makes it out of the frame. In fact it's pushing on the grommet a little bit. Should have had some big chamfers or notches for the wire right there maybe.
Yep a bit more thought could have gone into the mounting but I agree it looks nicer the way it is than on the E. Not the end of the world but worth noting :) Thanks for watching
The slimers are making a comeback! Damn you got lucky!
Very interesting as my Nimbus Nitro did the EXACT same thing with my blade grip coming off!!!! I used blue loctite in the building and will red from now on! 😳
Wow interesting. Seems like they fill the entire spindle with a gallon of oil before shipping lol. I used red and it still came out. Weird.
WOW that was very lucky. That would have totaled your heli. I lost a blade on my Xcell 60 and it ripped the mast out of the frame. It was a total loss.
Did you get rid of your electric after it was overheating?
No I got it mostly fixed with the smaller pinion. Did sell it a while later though
@@BladeScraper oh that's good to hear. Thanks
I bought a raptor 30 for super cheap. I love it. I love nitro. But it's just too damn expensive. I wish I could still get cool power 30 for 30 bucks unfortunately it's 50 bucks a gallon now
i removed some material for the servo lead. the only dislike
