The event looks like a tremendous amount of work and design, It's great to see people pitching to help each other. All the cars are fascinating. One of th most impressive was Steve's small car, which started life as a drone with beautiful 3D printed body and it ran 101mph.

As someone who spends every weekend slow Crawling and trailing, it's crazy to see the speed cars! Very cool

Proper stuff. Rc Mann is the Mann!!
I needed a video like this. Some precision engineering Kev style. ❤
Use carbon wheels with rubber spray. It’s a almost like a tire and you could spray it on that and it wouldn’t be super thick and probably 90% confident that it would not come off.
spray the rubber on while rotating and you are sure to get a nice true wheel....interesting.

I really think your issue with the diffs is a lack of backlash. You need that extra space for when the gears get hot and expand
Have you ever considered trying to use vacuum underneath the car for downforce?
The McMurtry Speirling, a real car, uses vacuums to suction the car to the road and that might be something you want to consider at super high speeds and turn it into an airplane again. I think that’s going to be the trick to future records.
the McMurty isn’t a high speed car it’s uses the vacuum for traction off the line. I bet the faster you get the less effective it is. it’s an aerodynamic problem.
@@hardywoodaway9912yeah that technology is just for super fast acceleration and not top speed
You're both wrong. The McMurtry fans can be adjusted on the fly. 2 tons of downforce stood still. It is limited by the motors for top speed otherwise it would be the quickest and fastest production car in the world. The technology goes back to the 70's can am series. The car could easily do 200mph+ with full assisted downforce if they could build a gearbox strong enough.
Worth to explore but I'm not sure that's the way to go to break speed records. Just design the underside of the car so it creates downforce. Seems easier to me.
@@R6AAO, yep. The Chaparral 2J fan car. 1970. Banned because it was a couple of seconds quicker per lap than anything else in the series.
The McMurtrie is currently limited by gearing. Their car which made the headlines was geared for the Goodwood FOS hill climb. They have another prototype which is geared for over 200mph.
The main issue with using fan tech in a RC speed run car would likely be packaging.
That was awesome Kev. I always enjoy it when you go to Rossa, just a good atmosphere. I do hope Andy got his drone to come back, and it's good to see you have a mate on the Isle of Mann to help you out. That car built with drone bits was awesome too. Could be a direction for you to head in, except full size and using wheel motors.
Actually?!?!!! Whooohoo!!! Super excited for you KEVIN! 🎉🎉
Excellent work! I rember back in 93 when I first broke 85mph I was thrilled, I can only imagine going over 200!

@@CJTJBIshorts 85 mph in 1993, bolink eliminator 10 with metal spur and pinion and a trinity motor. Neighbor cop radar gun lit it up a little below 86mph .
Wow I thought hump packs and brushed motors were all we had
@@CJTJBIshorts old school brushed trinity motor, running with 60tooth spur and a 21 tooth pinion. Had the ball diff tighter than normal. Do not remember the trinity motor number but it was a beast for 540 size and pretty high rpm. Barely stayed in the road with no suspension except for a double shock tower in the rear. Had to slot the motor mount farther on the mount to get it to mesh as well.

@@Sebastian-ov8lt yes! Thank you!
Honestly at those speeds the differentials need to have to be partially immersed in a gear type oil to prevent the gears from disintegrating from heat and friction. The grease on the gears presumably is flung off during high speed runs due to centrifugal forces. Going to a metal case from a plastic will give it stability initially, but eventually it would wear and cause lots of play in your differential, causing lots of gear deflection in the end destruction of the differential gears. It doesn’t seem to be too difficult to fabricate a sealed diff for it. How’s your welding skills?
yeah when I saw him lubing them up I thought, ok, where's the rest? I know it will provide resistance but there's zero lube on those gears at speed. Then you run it again, dry.
Most "life size" vehicles setting records go for a pretty much complete rebuild after each run.
The welds on his chassis brace actually looked fairly decent
Second that.
I'd be curious to know how hot those diffs get on each pass. Probably feel the heat at the axle cup with your finger.
Welding wise i believe he's very good at it
@@TheNamesArif I say that would be I great skill. But apropos. Can he weld two soda cans together? It’s much more complicated than most would attempt.
👏👏👏 Excellent video, very well explained, and the stories too come to life.
Good to hear what the future plans for all the cars are. Hope they all work out.
Don't take it the wrong way, but I have always liked your sausage, it has the potential.
I remember the sausages first runs and the way those tyres ballooned...
It has come a long way, and can go a long way more yet.
AND, I hope someone comes up with some new tyres soon.
You, and many others, are at the limit of the foams currently available.
NB - Yes, more rake to help stop flips.
Rear dampers can work well with stiff springs and limited damper stroke, about 3 to 4mm I would suggest.
Also, may be ask Rob about my front end aero mod I used on my dual. Seemed to work well.
When I see an hour video from this guy Im thinking how did he not pass out presenting with his level of enthusiasm for an hour ha
Thanks for editing all that for our enjoyment Kev 👍

Wow, witnessing the fastest RC car in the world is nothing short of thrilling! The speed and precision these miniature vehicles can achieve are truly mind-blowing. Thanks to you I got inspired tonstart speedrunning! I am glad you got 203 mph, which btw would have been the world record by the time you started building your first speedrun car😁!
What a nice event!!!
Keep it up!
Why don’t you use aluminium wheels just like the ones that they use for high-speed record attempts they won’t expand or flex still keep their shape
gotta keep the traction material on them. Then you have the weight issue. You also have to remember: the "life size" high speed attempts aren't reaching the speeds these r/c cars are.
They are doing 600 mph, but these r/c cars, in scale, are doing TWO THOUSAND miles per hour.
@@muskokamike127scale isn’t really relevant… especially smaller tires have it much easier on the same speed. also the land speed record cars use jet engines and have no traction issues
@@hardywoodaway9912 sorry, that's just wrong. Smaller tires/wheels spin faster therefore are subjected to higher centrifugal forces. a 2" wheel can spin at 12,000 rpm whereby a 3" wheel will spin at 8000 rpm to achieve the same ground speed.
@@hardywoodaway9912yeah, traction is definitely the issue on the aluminium wheels. As you say, speed fund for decades have not been driven by the wheels. You would need a good way to stick high quality rubber to aluminium discs.
@@muskokamike127. Very true. The smaller radius does lower the centrifugal force, but then it also increases it by the square of the RPM. So in your examples the 2” wheel has an RCF (relative centrifugal force) of 8178 whereas the 3” wheel has only 5452
You and Rob are an awesome combo!
I am here for this 🙌 the dedication you put in is admirable
Awesome video thanks Kev 👍
300+ mph wheel idea: the wheel is a 3d printed titanium skeleton with a tire made by weaving rubber/elastomer-coated aramid fiber thru & around it. It will be a lot of work to make & balance, but it won't break if you join/bond the fibers well enough. Good luck, these speed runs are fun to see!
Enjoyed watching that thanks.
