I can actually see that, but people always want different and those acts never qualify lol.
But, we must admit that Don' Break Me was way more competitive than Technicolor. She would've ended up in top 15 for sure, maybe even higher.
I like how her voice sounds a little scary and nervous. It's part of the song. The lyrics and dancing seem to portray that she is confused and out of touch with the reality of the relationship, and slightly scattered. She is dressed as a clown as she was the "clown" of the relationship.

I have always loved the fact that Australia is part of Eurovision. They always present something unique and mostly different from the other countries. Please never change guys! This song is nice, and even though her vocals are a bit off due to maybe being nervous or moving too much, I'm sure her performance during the actual contest will be great! Love from Bulgaria

Australia has been associate member of the EBU for 70 years(1950) & have been broadcasting & supporting Eurovision for 37 years. It's a known fact they have more Eurovision viewers than some of the competing countries even though they have to get up at 5am to watch it. That includes both semis as well. They are allowed to compete until the year 2023 which will also be their 40th anniversary of first broadcasting Eurovision in Australia(1983)-no other country outside of Europe has given the ESC such dedication and support yet they are constantly derided about being allowed in the competition. And nor do they donate money to be in the competition, they pay a fee just like all the other countries.I think its time Europe said "THANK YOU " to Australia!!!

We have a huge indie music scene and have music shows dedicated to artists like this and support unique artists like Montaigne, Kate Miller Heidke (Eurovision 2019) and Tones and I for examples. They have also performed at out New Years Eve concert
Singing with that choreography has to be hard, hard as hell!

@@s_feles_2642 Not OP, but 2023 is only when the current contract ends. Unless either side has some reason to discontinue at that point, the agreement is likely to be re-negotiated/extended. I would imagine there's a long term unofficial plan for Australia to be there permanently.

This song is really strong, and her voice is very unique. Yes, the staging needs work but we all said that last year for Kate. I never doubt Australia when it comes to staging now. This will get the full support of the Australia Eurovision Committee behind her both fiscally and physically. I am confident that this is going to do well.

Strike to Death The difference between Don't Break Me and Zero Gravity is that Zero Gravity was already a great song, which was underrated. Don't Break Me is the opposite: a bad/decent and overrated song.

I dont know if it's just me who's weird but I love this song, it's definitely in the top 3 for me so far alongside latvia and lithuania. I love her voice and the life at the stage, the passion, energy as well as the utterly bonkers presentation.

As a European, it makes me sad seeing these comments being so negative towards Australia. The competition is about acceptance and community, I understand they're not European, but neither is Israel and they still win. Even Turkey is 95% in Asia and I see so many comments wanting them to come back. I know they're not a member of the EBU either, but they're our guests and should treat them as such with respect and equality.

This is actually the first time that I like an Australian entry at the first listen, I love like 90% of this video... The song is amazing, the staging is amazing, the performance is amazing. I was in the audience for this show (in fact, if you watched the broadcast I was actually interviewed by Joel with my twin sister because we dressed up as Jedward) - and this performance absolutely brought the house down! Everyone standing around us was rooting for her, and she definitely deserved the win. Of course there are things lacking with the performance, but with a public broadcaster budget she knocked it out of the park. She even said herself she wants to upgrade the staging to make it bigger and better, and as for her voice she says she's looking forward to training hard to get even fitter to sustain those notes (which by the way she killed in my opinion). As for her costuming, the ruff is a style she's worn in another music video of hers for her song READY, and her album art for Complex, among others - whether she'll get rid of it who knows but I thought it was cool and unique! I can't wait to see her crush it in Rotterdam!

Seriously viewers, if Kate's staging can earn her the most memorable staging 2019 after the finals despite being criticised for having similarities to estonia 2018 when she first won Australia Decides, I'm sure Montaigne will be able to do it. Trust the Aussies.
But the difference is that Kate's staging complemented her vocals and the song. People just thought it was weird. However, the staging for Montaigne is making it way harder for her to sing, and it just seems like the staging is clashing with her and her song.

I think she performed better for Technicolour than this one. Too much contemporary dance which I think hindered her vocal performance. Very avant-garde this one was.
Technicolour is more upbeat and fun and has more challenging vocals.

Kate was underrated by the European community, while it was good. Montaigne is overhyped by the European community and is bad. Don't Break Me is Australia's first ever bad entry.

I don't get it why everyone hates the vocals. I think that the shaky vocals go well with the song's lyrics. This should get a high ranking looking at the juries standarts.

Well, in that case every singer could excuse poor vocals saying "It just fits my song better". It doesn't work like that. Participants are expected to deliver proper vocals. If you want vocals that sound fitting to a song like this, make them sound like you interpret your lyrics, and not like your performance hinders your singing abilities.

I loved this song and then my daughter went through a breakup with a gaslighter and it resonated so much more. He didnt'break her she wasn't glass but there were cracks. Awesome song - can't wait for next year.

I still have questions in my mind. How can this be underrated? Australia was a masterpiece. The rhythm, vocals, lyrics, story, play all of these were perfect. Montaigne was the only deserved to win the contest. I can't help listening to it all day long. I sometimes think thanks God Eurovision was canceled because the Europe would be unfair to Australia. I would love if they did this at Eurovision. I know it is a bit messy at times but they can fix that. It really ads to the immersion.
@@toniproductions3251 The common linnerts wanted it in a 1 shot but is was technicall to difficult. So it was 4 shots i think. It was still very impressive for a live show.
The mixing needs a rework, the staging is a mess, the costume is a no, and the vocals need work

Not a fan of this performance, but having seen her live at the intimate gig, I won't downsize her. Wait until you hear her properly... She is still a great aspiring young artist from Down under.
When you listen to lyrics carefully, the staging makes sense ❤ I loved it!
I really like this song and artist. I think there is a lot of light and shade in the way she sings and also in the backing track and that makes it a very interesting song. Her vocals during this performance are really compelling I think, there is something unique about them, there is a good bit of vibrato and her voice is very emotive, I think it is full of natural vulnerability and emotion. People are saying her vocals are off, I don't think so. She has a good varied intonation when she sings except of course in the monotonal sections which emphasise some of the emotion she wants to portray. I don't hear any pitch or tuning issues. Perhaps people are comparing her to main stream studio recorded artists? Perhaps she was a little nervous, a studio audience, televised across the country and the chance to represent Australia in Europe's biggest music competition, I would be soiling my knickers! I love her and I am super glad she is representing Australia and I think we should be so very proud to have her represent!!!!! xxx
I agree. I think the essence of this song is that she is feeling scattered and confused, thats why she is moving sporadically around the stage and almost sounds "nervous". I like it.
