    Finland and Sweden have different track gauges, so trains on one network cannot physically run on the other.
    That's likely the reason for the rail networks not being connected to each other.

    A quick explanation as to a probable reason the Finland-Sweden rails are not connected: the rail width (track gauge) is different between the countries and the bus was the easiest and most cost efficient solution to connect the two. When railways were being built in the North in mid-1800s, Finland was part of Russia and thus has the Russian rail width even today. Russia chose to have wider rails compared to the rest of Europe, my guess would be as another way to keep an eye who was coming and going and get money because only Russian trains could travel on Russian areas.
    Nice to hear you enjoyed Finland :D

    • @herrakaarme
      @herrakaarme Před 4 lety

      I have heard one reason was to prevent any foreign military from easily using the Russian railway system in invasion/occupation. Back when railways appeared, it was a revolution for moving troops and equipment. There were also armoured trains and massive railway guns.

    By the way, I have friends from Oslo who don’t love Oslo. Stavanger, I imagined wasn’t very interesting. Due to your video, I now know I have to take my friend up on his invite to visit. I’ve only been to the Oslo bus station and train station. I’ve been to Trondheim twice. Only a place to go if you have friends there to visit. It’s a nice, smallish city that in some ways reminds me of Berkeley, minus the warmer weather and homeless, and crime issues.

    I live in Oslo, but I must agree that as a tourist, there's nothing much to see here apart from office buildings. . There's a viking ship museum with a real ship that's worth seeing, and the sculpture park, but if you've been to 60 amazing countires already, I'd recommend going to see the fjords and the more touristy cities on the west coast.

As you both have been having a break in Istanbul and releasing fewer videos which we totally understand, it would be great if you announced on CZcams that your not releasing a video that day or there is a delay in downloading the video because of xyz. It would be awesome to see your subscribers and views rise so if people could see a little reminder of your videos on a day of a normal release I’m sure that would help get your numbers up.

    How can you say that you did the research, and you went to Gamlebyen? It seem like you missed out a lot of museums, like the Vikingmuseum, the Munch-museum and Folkemuseumet. But you may also seem to have not understand the Oslo-mentality. On one hand many are super-hip, and in the forefront of the international cultural scene, on the other hand it is their connection with nature and the combination of skiing/biking and hiking. A trip up the Holmenkollbanen, checking out the incredible views (as you did in Bergen), and then take a bike trip to, say Kikutstua, and spend a night there, would probably change your mind.

      Perhaps they are not museum people? Not everyone is. Yeah, Oslo is pretty good with museums, parks and city life for the people who like that. But for people who want to see more of our unique landscape, old wooden buildings, etc. Oslo is not going to be good for that at all. And the city is not a good representation of what our country has to offer. Go pretty much anywhere along the west coast and you are going to get much more, no matter the size of town you choose to visit.

      I had a change to compare Oslo and Helsinki in summer once, both are about the same size but Helsinki felt more busy, more happenings, more tourists. In Oslo you can see it's a wealthy city but it was more quiet than expected.

      @AndreasFphoto Před 4 lety +1

      There is no particular definite old town in Oslo, like in many other european cities, for many ancient reasons. But it has a lot of places that will feed you with such vibes. Therefore it was kind off a let down when two of the most proficient travel vloggers on the tubes decided to do a whole Oslo travel vlog based on a visit to a graveyard, gamlebyen (which they obviously didn't research), Barcode/Bjørvika, Karl Johans gate, The Royal Palace and Aker Brygge ;)
      Ashley and Josh, I really wish you will come back. I will gladly show you around Oslo, from a locals perspective.
      We'll visit Telthusbakken, Gamle Aker, Damstredet, Kampen, Brenneriveien, the stretch of Maridalsveien near Sagene, and have a stroll along the Aker river. There you have it for free, and the refreshments is on me. For your next visit to Oslo ;)
