Freddie sharing with humour, an 'in-the-moment' personal life experience, thank God most would never know, but he had to endure. Edit: I see no one has shared that Freddie wrote this entertaining music, lyrics encouraged by the weird mental stuff his medication caused him to handle...he and friend Peter Straker brainstormed the 'mad' references late into the night around the kitchen table - in fact the cd mentions Peter. This song tells me it's one example of Freddie turning lemons into lemonade.

Freddie is an inspiration to all.

He was so ill here. He has layers of thermal wear under that suit to fill out the clothes... so thin. But you're right. Much easier to watch than "These are the Days of our Lives"... I cry every time at that one. 😪

Great reaction! I think you are right, Freddie would have been good at acting, but he was not interested. I think for Freddie, he thought that he was already acting when he was displaying different personas on stage and in his music.

The interesting thing about this video is although it was done just before 'best days of our lives' and Freddie is just as ill in both. This one makes us smile, and the other makes us cry.

Freddie never wanted to act. Others have said he'd get bored as he had a short attention span. The person in the gorilla suit is rumored to be Freddie's close friend, Elton John.

Freddie helped directing this video (there's a "making of I'm going slightly mad" on youtube)
    czcams.com/video/mZPMRCdP5tc/video.html
He said in the interviews (before he got ill) that if he decided to be an actor he wanted to do it properly, not like a rock star acting for fun, but like a real professional actor. He said that maybe in the future he'll do it. But sadly he didn't have time before it got too late...
This song (written by Freddie) is about AIDS side effects or medicine's side effects (memory loss and dementia). Freddie was afraid of it, but fortunately his mind remained sharp until the end.

Interesting tidbit--Liza Minnelli did a cover of this song, but I prefer this original. There is a great memorial video to Freddy on youtube done to Bruce Springsteen's song "Streets of Philadelphia". Beautiful and moving homage to Mercury and how his death affected his friends.

Freddie was asked if he’d ever thought about acting and he said ‘it wasn’t his bag’. His frost love was music and he wanted to fully explore and enjoy it.
Watch the production video for Going Slightly Mad. It is both funny and sad. Freddie had so many wonderful ideas that were used in the final production.

I love this video for a couple reasons: 1) Anything Queen, right? 2) And I think Freddie’s theatre work is fantastic! I truly believe that if Freddie was alive today he would still be doing music & video productions. I heard a rumor that Elton John was the “gorilla”. Freddie was on AIDS meds which he said made him feel like he was “going slightly mad”. Brian is a huge advocate for animals rights so he was excited about the penguins!! Check out BREAKTHRU, SCANDAL, HEADLONG, THE MIRACLE, I’M THE INVISIBLE MAN official videos.

It's very perceptive of you to bring up the acting question! Actually, Freddie said he HAD been approached about doing movies. But he said in an interview: "That's not my bag."😂
He commented more on how actors - once they were successful - usually wanted to get into music; and that the same was true in-reverse for people in music being bitten w "the acting bug"... But, he didn't feel the need/desire to go looking for another creative outlet, because he was happy/had plenty of room to be creative within the context of Queen.
And as-far-as doing something like Broadway, he said he would get BORED, having to do the exact same act each time... which is the same reason he never wanted to have choreography in Queen's shows: He wanted to be able to just go onstage and have freedom "to do whatever feels right".
Freddie & Brian May both also said that Freddie would NEVER do Broadway, because Fred would NEVER want to do matinees!! (Too early in the day.)

I always said that Freddie (the '70-'74 image) would have made the perfect Frank N Furter from Rocky Horror Show!
I used to ache to see Freddie act in something, he was just so commanding and captivating.

I like songs like My melancholy Blues, Is this the world we created, Spread your wings each a soundtrack to my life since I became a Queen fan way back. If you like great acting in music videos have a look at “Mein Herz brennt” (My Heart is burning - and this is not a love song) from Rammstein, piano version. Probably best to watch either the normal video or live performance first to compare.

Sorry, actually Days Of Our Lives was the final video made by Freddie. The last shot where he looks at us with THAT look, is his goodbye and no further (official) video was made.
Maybe not reflected in order of release, I admit, but nonetheless.

@@yusufmalik575 to be fair, I think that TATDOUL video was meant to be released as the final video but Freddie died and it was released as a double with Bo Rhap.
This left The Show Must Go On as the final single.
I think it was planned to be the other way, and would have made more sense from a 'story telling' point of view: Freddie says that he'll keep fighting on, then dies and says goodbye in Days video.
As it turns out, the timing of his death meant that Show is more of a poignant final single than was originally planned!
If people doubt the notion that Freddie's final year was planned, just listen to the lyrics in Only The Good Die Young!

I think that Freddie was having some memory problems caused by AIDS as well as from some of his meds. Freddie really faced his situation very bravely and never complained, he sort of just went with the flow and this song is of his way of just accepting his situation at that particular time. That is my take on it, and I love this song. You are right, it is a fun, feel good song.

It was so silly and simple but it was such a brave thing to do
He wasn't well enough to spend much time in the studio throwing around ideas
At this point just wearing clothes was uncomfortable for him
He came up with the song messing around with his friend at home
Told the band when the director had pretty what they thought he wanted he then came in
It was brave to do a video when he was so ill he doesn't look like him
I dont know if this is inappropriate or not but I think hes still good looking and the style of costume helps
To me he looks iller inthe other video
He would have been getting stressed at this point however brave you are it takes great deal of courage to accept your dying
Why I have do much respect for him but he must have had times it was difficult
He would have also been warned that in the later stages he may start to have memory issues and such
Also doing this once people knew I hope would give others strength seeing him still performing. .and not hiding how I'll he was
And his voice in this is amazing
